MSX core by Molekula and Princess Paloma’s Rescue - no sound?

Unread post by emuola »

Tried this wondeful looking entry in the MSXdev24 and unfortunately there's no sound, no matter what computer model I choose. At one point I heard a short clip of music, but then it disappeared just by itself and never came back. There seems to be somthing weird with the MSX-Audio part then 🤔

I have tried all the MSX1 core versions (those that have MSX2 support), but no avail.

Would somone have some adveice how to get the audio working 🙂

Game can be downloaded here:

This game uses the MSX-MUSIC sound format, which on original hardware requires an additional cartridge (FM-PAC being the most common) with a specialized chip; see https://www.msx.org/wiki/MSX-MUSIC

Hi,

would you mind elaborating on that just a little bit please ?

I find almost all "neo-retro" (= post-2020 released) roms for most computers working even if i find most computers cores feel somewhat unfinished. For msx i have like 2 that dont and paloma here is one of them i followed as you said, downloaded a third core via

http://retrowiki.es/viewtopic.php?t=200039104
which comes out to github here
https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/MSX1_Mi ... 230203.rbf

the settings are :

type : MSX2
slot a : the game rom (from the official site)

slot b: set to fmpac
(instead of rom/ loading the fmpac rom i found here : https://github.com/Abdess/retroarch_sys ... %20-%20MSX

in advanced the memory is set to 512 kb

despite that i get a green/beige-ish screen and thats it

its not like i need the game for my epic but it gets on my nerves that i cant get it to boot (maybe understandable in tinker-land) if you have any further or more elaborate advice i would be much obliged

thanks in advance,

J

(i have a whole slur before where i inject the rom file into a vhd file that runs on the other one after much apt installing, compiling, purging, removing and finally installing guestfs again but i get something about "ram1024 not installed there, im asking b/c you sais it works ... theres no rush ofcourse the world will go to hell either way haha)

The official released MSX core by Molekula is MSX1.
If you want to use the unreleased MSX2 core, follow this : https://vampier.net/MSX/

:D
and yes indeed
using the MSX1_20230702_test.rbf from the link provided together with CBIOS as rom from *.msx pack (which is also provided) it works without having to add fmpac or anythying, just slot princess paloma into rom slot a, no hard drive or anything attached afaik and it works

this is what i had

this is what i get now :
