Re: Issue Compared to Real Hardware PAL SMS Music at 60Hz, Gameplay at 50Hz

[EDIT: Never mind, I had MiSTer BIOS option enabled by mistake. Still, why is the SMS core BIOS slowing down the game when on a real JP SMS with a BIOS, the title etc run smoothly?] When running Psychic World SMS, once the intro starts, and I press the button to skip it, the "PSYCHIC" and "WORLD" logos scroll onto the screen fro...

Cores Accessed via Their .MGL Aliases Have Cheat Option Disabled

Hey, folks. This applies to the aliases like Game Gear.mgl and GameBoyColor which point to the SMS and GB cores, respectively.

For example: If you access a GG game through the SMS core, you can choose cheats for it as normal, but if you select the "GameGear" core then the cheats option is ghosted.

Is this normal and expected behaviour?

Re: Missing Sound Channels (Blue’s Journey, Others?)

Greyrogue has fixed the error with Blue's Journey, so many thanks to him/her! As for balancing inaccuracy, yes, some games feel like certain instruments are in the background & drowned out, compared to how I remember them or heard on real hardware. Well, that'll take a bit more listening to by all of us. Is there a core update with this fix av...

Missing Sound Channels (Blue’s Journey, Others?)

Hey folks. Thankfully the sample playback speed error of the Neo-Geo core has been fixed; however another annoyance continues: missing sound channels in games such as Blue's Journey. I remember there being others (mostly ADK games?), but it'll take a bit more listening to games to spot some. Unfortunately, there are no VGM rips of Blue's to aid in ...

Re: Dottori-Kun core

Well, here's the title screen with all graphics filled in. The raster bars are supposed to change offscreen, in a vertical column, but here they are going diagonally down and to the right (with a line added for help). This shows that the CPU is running too slowly compared to the video timing. Perhaps that's some inaccuracy in the Z80 core? NODATE-s...

Re: Dottori-Kun core

Okay, some test ROMs are in a single ZIP. I made them 5 years ago now, so I forget exactly what they do, but using the controller L/R (maybe U/D too) you can adjust the number of NOPs for the raster bars, and scanline position for the colour-changing effect ROMs.

Re: Dottori-Kun core

Yes, I checked with an oscilloscope, and the 15Khz signal in the Dottori core correctly XORs the HSync and VSync signals, unlike the real Dottor-Kun hardware. So at least the MiSTer core is more friendly to TVs/monitors. I guess either the HSync timing is 0.729% too slow, or VSync is 1.71% too fast..... I'm no expert so it's hard to say why it's so...

Re: Dottori-Kun core

Thanks for the update! My setup still doesn't like the 15Khz mode, but that's understandable. Nicole Express did a write-up here about why Dottori-Kun doesn't capture/display well: https://nicole.express/2021/a-lot-of-effort-for-dots.html Other systems (GB/Lynx...) that have odd refresh rates have modes in their cores that lock them into 15Khz/60Hz...

Dottori-Kun core

Hi, and thanks JimmyStones and Furrtek for bringing the Dottori-Kun core to MiSTer. Can I make some requests / bug reports? I run my MiSTer in 15khz RGB, and the core doesn't make my CRT display happy: it shuts off / degausses itself! Is there any way to lock the core to 60Hz or change the sync pulses to something more standard? (I hear the VSync p...

Re: Atari Lynx Core

Thanks for the core!!! It works quite well -- using a CRT monitor in 15khz mode most of the time. Sometimes I use MiSTer in 31khz VGA. A couple bugs or problems: In both 15Khz and 31Khz mode, when using the '240p mode' option, the top row of Lynx pixels get stretched to 3 pixels high, and the bottom row of pixels gets "stretched" to only ...

Re: 3D LCD shutter glasses support?

1. I assume if the glasses were to work with SNAC or through some user port adapter, these would be synchronized with a CRT signal and would not correctly work with a modern HDMI display, correct? 2. Someone mentioned you can still purchase new hardware that is compatible with Famicom/SMS. Could someone point me in the direction of this? Bonus: Wh...

Re: 3D LCD shutter glasses support?

I have seen that discussion. Thanks for the replies so far, but talk of 3D TVs, over-under, and anaglyph is a bit of a digression from my original question, since they are ideas for producing 3D on modern LCD TVs. Not to mention they would need the graphical/framebuffer part of each core to be specially programmed. I'm just talking about drawing ou...

3D LCD shutter glasses support?

Hey, folks. Both the NES / Famicom and Sega Master System had 3D glasses, with a handful of games that supported them. Have either of these cores been programmed to pass the 3D shutter signals to any of the I/O ports in MiSTer? The FC 3D shutter is selected via a write out the joystick expansion port, and the SMS 3D shutter is done by a write to a ...

Re: Using the scaler to downscale to 15khz

I've used vga_scaler to downscale Vectrex to work on a 15khz display. It looks awful, but works. Try adding this to the bottom of your ini. It worked for [Vectrex], and may work for you. But don't expect it to be pleasant. [ao486] video_mode=320,8,32,24,240,4,3,16,6048 vga_scaler=1 From the "Custom VIdeo Modes Test Thread ( https://misterfpga...

Does each core have a history.txt or changelog viewable somewhere?

It's nice to see cores updated, but I think it's important/essential for some to see what has changed between each version. For example, take a look at the recent update to the NES core: :? "- Many fixes from Kitrinx" Good to hear about many changes, but what about that one annoying bug that you've been waiting to get fixed? You won't kno...

Re: Metal Slug X - Music Incorrect

I sent a message about this to Furrtek, who said I should contact Jotego, since he made the sound core part of the Neo-Geo core. Jotego will look into it, but he wants .VGM files from the songs that exhibit bugs in order to diagnose the errors.

Re: Metal Slug X - Music Incorrect

Hopefully I can add to this discussion. I've long noticed missing sample channels in the MiSTer core, as well as what seems like off-key notes (imagine a vibrato that goes up/down once per second). This has been most noticeable in ADK games like Magician Lord and Blue's Journey. Nobody else seems to have mentioned it, but perhaps more can pipe up. ...

NSF Player?

Hi, folks. I'm new to the forums but have been using MiSTer for more than a year. The NES core doesn't seem to load and play .NSF files anymore. Have I missed something? And can someone point to the documentation about this that I missed, in the case that I did? Does each core have a changelog somewhere that users can refer to to view changes? The ...
