Re: Groovy_MiSTer Core

See I don't agree, it's not about usability, it's about options, I have a CRT, I have an Oled screen for my PC, but I could find a use for this for retro evening on a bigger screen in the living room. None of these are essentiel in the first place you know, it's about fun and possibilities. You could certainly use a Retrotink, but I can’t think of...

Re: Groovy_MiSTer Core

I finally got to update to the latest core, MiSTer binaries, etc and spent an evening toying with this. I’ve gone with a basically headless setup - it’s an Intel NUC running Debian, and in addition to being hardwired to the MiSTer, it shares its WiFi with it to get around the terrible WiFi performance I always see on the MiSTer. Right now I kicksta...

Re: Groovy_MiSTer Core

Set this up tonight using an old NUC running Debian and it worked fantastically. I noticed occasional color/sync issues in the brief time I was able to test it. I have a very finicky KV35V75 Trinitron using svideo which MikeS has had to tweak settings to get working better before in his yc cores. Any idea where I could start to try and tweak it mys...

Re: Feature Request: Input Recording and Playback

I was thinking of this less for macros and more for stuff like TAS playback. I imagine you’d have a new “Reset with input recording” option that’d put the system into a known reproducible state and then record all inputs as they came in. The resulting file could be shared for a perfect recreation of the original session. Most people use it to recor...

Feature Request: Input Recording and Playback

I’d like to see the ability to record and playback inputs. I don’t know at what level of the project this would need implemented so I’m starting here. My use case would be to be able to send core devs an input session that will get them into an exact state that I encountered for the purpose of reporting bugs without knowing exactly how to recreate ...

Re: Cps2 X-men cota, weird super behaviour

So, first off very happy to be able to play cps2 now, very cool! Did encounter some weird behaviour. Now full disclaimer i have next to no experience with the arcade version. Have played the saturn game a lot, but ‘some time’ has passed. So not sure if this is a human error or indeed some kind of bug. So when executing your super 1. It comes out -...

Re: ao486 wish-list

+1 for native VGA output with the I/O board. It would be insane! It used to be working just fine until Sorgelig forced the core through VGA scaler. Well, I'm not very familiar with core programing, but I'm sure he has a good reason to force it off, maybe it was dangerous for the hardware or something? I don't know. Still, I hope we could get it ba...

Re: Would Killer Instinct 1 & 2 be possible on MiSTer?

I just wanted to point out I only recently realized the backgrounds in Killer Instinct are all (well, most of them) like FMV streamed in real time from the hard drive. It seeks to whichever frame represents where you're standing on the stage. Definitely a neat trick that fooled a lot of people (myself included) at the time.

Get a nice monitor with low lag and a VESA mounting kit that lets you rotate it.

Re: SDRAM new tests

My SDRAM passes all of these tests, and my house is a nightmare of EM interference (smart devices, multiple wifi routers, etc.)

I've never gotten crashes in CPS 1.5 either (other than the unrelated Saturday Night Slammamsters crash) so maybe I have some legitimately good SDRAM?

Re: Looking for a compatible 1440p monitor

My Acer SB220Q does freesync natively with no drivers required with my MiSTer. Have you tried any PAL core with it? Yes - played several Euro Megadrive games in PAL mode, and the monitor itself reported 50fps and showed zero tearing. It also handled some arcade cores that didn't work on my NTSC CRT (Lunar Lander? Can't recall. I posted about it a ...

Re: Looking for a compatible 1440p monitor

Problem is, most of the WQHD panels on the market today won't handle 50hz @ 1920x1440 without having a driver to enforce that. For example my monitor (old ASUS PG278 series), can happily be set to the above profile inside Win10, but cannot do that "on its own" connected directly to the Nano board. You're better off setting the .ini to 72...

Connect USB board to DE10 Nano using pins

I think the microusb port on my USB board has gone bad. Is it possible to use the jumper pins near it to connect to the DE10 Nano instead?

How would I wire up that cable?

Re: Apple II Core

Apple 2 cheap(er)? Umm...I'm not even sure if that's true in the US, definitely not here in the EU. Even so, there are zillions of cheap C64 or ZXs, for example, yet these cores are fairly well developed. It is interesting though, given how popular, and pioneering the AII was. It's similar when it comes to its software preservation, because I'm no...

I wonder if lack of support is the result of Apple II's being one of the cheaper and easier vintage computers to collect. Not that hard to just buy one if you really want it.

Re: Freesync?

Did some display lag testing - 240p test suite NTSC shows less than one frame of display lag when running with low lag mode. RihvXkH.jpeg Also tested out lunar lander which I understand has a weird refresh rate and won't display on my CRT. Ran flawlessly. (I assume the flickering was part of the vector display.) I also took a slowmo video of it dro...

Re: Freesync?

I have a FreeSync/G-Sync Compatible monitor (LG 27GL83A-B) and it's worked fine with MiSTer at 1920x1440, with or without Adaptive Sync enabled. It does drop out for a second or two after starting up a game with vsync_adjust=2 enabled, presumably due to the refresh rate switch. It would be nice if more cores offered a "Sync core to video"...

Re: Yet another integer scaling question

@deepthaw, Many thanks for your feedback! So if I understood correctly I can select the option 'scale to fit the screen height' without integer scaling and then enable the interpolation filter only? Thanks! I'd stick with integer scaling and just do an interpolation filter for horizontal. That's going to give you the best image quality. In fact, a...

Re: Yet another integer scaling question

Depends on the core and even then, the game. Integer scaling is fantastic to prevent shimmering on vertical scrolling in all games. Games with non square pixels however will either look squished (wrong aspect ratio) or scaling artifacts if stretched horizontally. If you stick with correct aspect ratio, I’d recommend at least enabling the interpola...

Freesync?

Do freesync monitors work with MiSTer?

okay I need more words.

Freesync monitors are modern LCD/OLED/whatever displays that can run at a range of refresh rates similar to the CRTs we all love and adore. I have one on my main PC that'll do 45-75.

I know a lot of arcade games had weird refresh rates and didn't know if this would be compatible.
