Re: Speedruns on Regular Core and Gameplay Accuracy

I forget where Robert posted the comment; likely in the Patreon discussion. In his latest Patreon post he details that development is ending and that tightening up the core timings is a fool's errand with the DDR3 latency issues. And I really hope you are not sad about the end being reached without prior notice, but I would understand it. I for mys...

Re: Speedruns on Regular Core and Gameplay Accuracy

This was answered in your previous thread. The core on MiSTer is not 100% accurate to the N64 hardware and runs a little faster, I do not profess to being a speedrunner or a body that invigilates speedrunners but it is probably safe to assume that speedruns produced on the N64 core are inadmissible. It may also depend on a per-game basis as many ga...

Re: How Does the N64 Turbo Core Work?

I'm sorry to say it is a resounding; it depends. It will widely increase the framerate across the board. In some games where game logic/physics is tied to framerate (it was pretty common in the 90s) you will find that some things, including player movement, may behave relative to the how much faster the game engine is running. https://youtu.be/MSYn...

Re: No Direct Video/scart RGB signal for Turbografx

Whilst PC-Engine/TG16 core doesn't explicitly need an SDRAM module you may experience weirdness. From the core's readme : This core may work without SDRAM (using on-board DDR3), but it may have different kinds of issues/glitches due to high latency of DDR3 memory. Thus SDRAM module is highly recommended for maximum accuracy. Direct video should wor...

Re: 8bitdo Modkit for Original N64 Controller

I am experiencing the exact same thing as everyone above. No C-up or C-left when mapping to the N64 core, but they work in Windows, albeit the same as above, they show up as the second half of 2 different sliders and not buttons. I could also never pair it with a Magic-NS controller, but the Asus 500 worked first try. I also did experience it maki...

Re: N64 Core

Do Star Fox and Sin and Punishment run well on the latest build? Like, perfect? I know there's a few games that hit a wall. Both work great and have been played through to completion. No game can currently be considered cycle-accurate to the original hardware but most are perceptually indistinguishable outside of some edge-cases. Tightening of tim...

Yes, here. For how frenetic the development pace was, it might not be completely up-to-date.

Vendors can be found in the GitHub repo. Images of hardware and case designs also (download an STL to preview the footprint).

Re: N64 Core Development Ends

DDR3 latency deficiency means that resolving some issues with games like Conker and Jet Force Gemini is impossible on the DE10-Nano. Robert will be taking a break (about two weeks) buttoning things up and releasing the core to the official repository. It's not grave news, it just means we've hit the ceiling on the DE10-Nano. The core still works gr...

Re: New I/O Board, AV Board

Effectively it's a consolidated digital and analog IO board, it has a small AV board that attaches to the other GPIO headers that enables analog output with a 24-bit DAC (better colour reproduction, less banding). It isn't available to order off-the-shelf right now and work is ongoing to update cores to fully support it. https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Re: Trouble Running Knuckles in Sonic 2 on Mister FPGA - Black Screen Issue

If you could provide the hash of your ROM that would be super helpful, we could try to replicate the problem then.

Try changing the region setting too in case it is a timing issue and your region detection is doing something wonky.

You don't map the analog stick in the core menu; make sure you map it from the main menu.

Re: Trouble Running Knuckles in Sonic 2 on Mister FPGA - Black Screen Issue

If regular Sonic 2 is working it is likely to be the ROM.

  • Could you provide the hash of your ROM?

  • Which core are you using, the old "Genesis" core or the new "Megadrive" core?

  • Do you have SDRAM? If so; have you tested it?

Re: Is it me or is there serious input lag in the Lynx core?

For some added context : Refresh Rate Lynx uses custom refresh rates from ~ 50Hz up to ~ 79Hz. Some games switch between different modes. To compensate you can either: live with tearing Buffer video: triple buffering for clean image, but increases lag Sync core to 60Hz: Run core at exact 60Hz output rate, no matter what internal speed is used

Re: Nintendo 64 Input Situation

Have you tried mapping the C-buttons to the second analog stick in Main? Often these adapters treat C-buttons this way and when you come to map the buttons in the core the mapping process gets confused because it doesn't understand why it is seeing an axis input rather than a real button-press.

All of the documentation for TapTo can be found in the GitHub repo . There is a full DIY guide here with a custom PCB you will need to order from JLCPCB/PCBWAY etc. Alter...

Does anyone know if the 8BitDo N64 Hall Effect Replacement Joystick is compatible and can be used on the official NSO N64 Controller?

The 8bitdo joystick replacement is intended for OEM controllers (6-pin), the official NSO N64 controller uses a 4-pin FPC connector. So no, it is not compatible unfortunately.

The menu items with dates (core release date) link directly to the cores, those without (including favourites, this is how that works) use MGL files . So taking GameBoy Color as an example; it is using the GameBoy core but the MGL for GameBoy Color is dropping you into the core pre-configured to use the GBC ROM directory. GameGear/Master System is ...
