Re: Donkey Kong: Walking Sound Hack?

When I was a kid, in our local arcade somebody figured out you could skip the first level by climbing the first ladder, going right a little and sort of back jumping. Mario then would kind of fall through the edge instead of crashing. Has anybody ever heard of this trick? It was nearly 40 years ago and my recollection of it is pretty hazy but I'm ...

Re: MiSTer Nuked-MD MegaDrive Core

What is even more confusing is that we now have three Master System cores with different features and compatibility, that all use different rom folders. ColecoVision core : best for older games; plays SMS games that use legacy video mode , SG-1000 games and SC-3000 cartridges; has SK-1100 keyboard support SMS core : best for newer games; plays SMS ...

Re: Patches for Crazy Kong

Nice post thank you , is there anyway to fix rotation on a crt for crazy kong. Even with VGA scaler game is upside down. You could try this patch: Crazy Kong Flip Screen & High Score Save @ scoresaves.com However, when I last tested it, the Crazy Kong Sprite was flipped. It might be related to an issue in the MiSTer core. See github for a simi...

Re: NES MSU1 SRAM Not Found?

Trying to play the msu1 nes games, I was able to play Megaman 4 just fine. But Zelda 1,2 and megaman 1 all give me a blue screen as soon as it boots saying that sram isn't found. Has anyone else run into this? I had the same problem. The SNES core only supports SRAM up to a size of 128kb, while the default SRAM size in Project Nested is 256kb. Try...

Not sure if it is of any use for MiSTer, but over at smspower.org a user called silvervest recreated the custom gate array IC inside the SC-3000, the MITEC-2, and published the Verilog source on GitHub:

Re: Sega SG-1000 (& SC-3000 + SF-7000)

Just to add to your observations, the Colecovision core supports the SK-1100 keyboard and can run most SC-3000 cartridges. Tape support is missing, however. The Sega SC-3000 Survivors MEGACART is not working because the mapper is not supported (yet).

I didn't test it, but the example from the MiSTer wiki should do the job:

Code: Select all

<!-- begin kill screen fix -->
    <patch offset="0xf7d">
FE 04 38 02 3E 04 47 A7 17 A7 17 A7 17 80 80 C6

Re: SMS core only shows SEGA logo

Every Master System from around the world has its own Bios, so having the option to choose the Bios in which we had our Master System at the time is the most correct and beautiful, as it is possible in Retroarch ^_^ If you just want a BIOS to be loaded at the start of the core, then this is already possible. Get the desired BIOS, use a hex editor ...

Re: Dismember SG-1000 from the Coleco

The Colecovision core has a real hardware equivalent: The Dina 2 in one console , which runs both Colecovision and SG-1000 games. Regarding keyboard support, the Colecovision core supports the SK-1100 keyboard and can run most SC-3000 cartridges. Tape support is missing, however. In my opinion what is missing the most with this core is disk and tap...

Re: Autosave

The problem is that the core has no way to tell if there is new data to be saved. Continuous or periodic autosave would increase the wear on the storage medium. That is why autosave was implemented the way it is, that it only writes the data from RAM to the storage medium when the user opens the OSD.

You can play Adam games on the Colecovision core as long as they are in cartridge format. Floppy and tape loading is not supported and would be very difficult to implement (at least that is what gyurco told me in 2018).

Re: What would be a better choice?

If I were you I would buy a hitbox controller. A hitbox is more precise, because it doesn't have a joystick. It can be used both for 80s games that require a 4-way stick and for newer games that requre an 8-way stick. It is also perfect for playing console games intended to be played with a dpad. It takes some time to get used to the hitbox, but it...

VESA 2.0 Under DOS

Some games like Duke Nukem 3D and FastDoom have VESA 2.0 support. With VESA 2.0 the graphics card can be better utilized thus increasing the overall performance in the games. To use VESA 2.0 a software driver is necassary. I tried several builds of UniVBE but with no success. Builds prior to 5.1 do not support VESA 2.0. Newer builds had severe grap...

Ok thank you for trying. I have no idea what could be the issue. I always used the COM port and never tried to connect via network. Maybe other users can help you. After the login, does it list the contents of your SD card when you type "cd /media/fat; ls" at the command prompt?

Re: Attempting a kill screen in Crazy Kong cos Donkey Kong is too hard

Sorry I don't have a clue on how to use PuTTY. Where are the log files stored? The log files are created by PuTTY from the console output of your MiSTer. They are stored on the hard disk of the computer that was used to connect to MiSTer. You can get instructions on how to use PuTTY on the MiSTer Wiki: https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/Main_MiSTer/w...
