Re: MiSTer FPGA Community Survey Results

This is the first gaming related survey where my age is UNDER the median lol. I'm 36 though, so only by a hair (or rather whatever is left of my hair). "According to some crude string matching, just barely over half of users use some kind of CRT" That's actually a a fairly big result, for what is usually portrayed as tiny minority. Gonna...

Good survey with some good questions, I look forward to seeing how to the data will be used.
The ao486 didn't exist, but several similar machines did so I opted to just put DOS since that's how it's being used

Is this endorsed by Sorgelig?
Not at all, it was an idea I had that I shared in the Discord, which is who I was referring to. I'm not trying to represent anybody and I tried to be upfront about that in the opening lines of the survey.

EDIT: I still think this will be a valuable resource to devs

Here's a link to the MiSTer FPGA Community Survey. We're trying to better understand what your experience is with MiSTer, as well as classic video games in general.

Re: Trouble getting Lag Tester Core to work

Yeah, I did that to get the 6/18 build. I'm starting to wonder if there's something more fundamental I'm missing (I'm familiar but not well versed in electronics). As a more bare-bones test I put the Arduino in a bread board without anything connected and started the tests. As soon as I plugged in an alligator clip into pin 2 I started getting the ...

Trouble getting Lag Tester Core to work

For a project in an experimental design class, I've been planning on using the lag tester core to compare different connection types for a particular controller (8bitdo Arcade Stick). I've been running into a really weird problem where the output end up just being a large sine wave instead of actual lag values (average lag of ~100ms, max ~200, min ...

Re: Unibios corrupt in MVS mode

I fixed it! I decided to md5sum all my BIOS files and found that my 000-lo.lo was incorrect. It now works perfectly Any chance you could share what the correct md5 / crc is for your 000-lo.lo file? I'm having difficulty fixing what looks to be the same problem you had. Sorry, I haven't been on in a while, haha. Here's what I posted to Reddit: EDIT...

Re: 8BitDo Arcade Stick

Someone did a lag test and submitted it to Porkshop. It's in the spreadsheet, basically at the top. All results are <1 frame but not particularly exceptional. I got one for Christmas and as someone who's never owned an arcade stick before, it's pretty nice. I certainly don't notice the lag except maybe barely during Neo Turf Masters. https://docs.g...

Todavía no hay traducciones para los menús. Mándeme mensaje directo y le puedo ayudar con lo que necesite. Devs, if you see this, I'm willing to translate the menus into Spanish. I have a decent command of the language and some (minor) formal training in translation. Can't guarantee perfection, but I'll do the legwork and a native speaker can verif...

Re: Auto Save SRAM feature

SD cards don't handle excessive writes very well. I'm not sure if this applies to the SNES library, but some carts use SRAM as regular ol' RAM so you'd be writing every time you accessed the menu. Though, I agree it'd be nice to have it write on detected change at least as an option that can blacklist games that write more than 3 times in 5 seconds...

Re: Has anyone tried low motion blur displays?

I wonder if a framedoubler would be difficult to implement (I say this as someone with laughably insufficient technical knowledge/skill) the same way we have a scandoubler, but for the HDMI framebuffer. I know the current fastest framebuffer only has about 4 scanlines of leeway and I don't know if that's too volatile to reduce to 2 or if the way th...

Re: Has anyone tried low motion blur displays?

Thanks for such a comprehensive write-up! I'm actually using a PC CRT right now, haha. Only problem is that it's too small to look good in a cab. Thankfully I don't plan on building one until I've bought a home to put it in so I can wait with you. I just got really excited about the technology because it seems to do everything I love about CRTs. He...

I don't think anyone can measure it yet since it won't be released until October 20th but I'd bet you money that Porkchop (MisterAddons) will do it shortly after it comes out

Has anyone tried low motion blur displays?

I've been reading up on newer displays that implement backlight strobing and some other fun tricks to significantly reduce the effects of motion blur. I know CRTs are generally lauded for their laglessness and some users here won't accept anything other than a goose egg in their lag chain but most seem to be quite fine with just sub 1 frame. Person...

Re: DS4 vs 8bitdo vs Blisster vs Other

It depends on you. MisterAddons has done a number of tests and found that several controllers have <3ms of latency. That doesn't mean there will be a 3ms delay since the screen only refreshes every 16.66ms. Instead, you have an 82% chance of getting the same frame as a 0 latency solution and an 18% chance of the change being applied to the followin...

Unibios corrupt in MVS mode

So I've done everything as to the line as I can to get this core setup and, fundamentally, it's working. Games play without issue (best I can tell, I don't know that I've ever seen real hardware) with the caveat that I'm using only 32mb at the moment. My only real problem is that even for games that should (and do) load without issues, there's no t...
