Re: What Is the Minimum Number of Buttons Needed for Most Arcade Cores?

Official JAMMA specs default to three buttons wired, with two more spare buttons when needed. So three buttons should be a good basis.

Maybe, just maybe, thinking this way: beginning work now is preparing for the future so that when is the future is ready to become publicly present, we won't have long to wait. The dev said 5 years, so it's much longer than you think. There is always this guy telling another guy what the another guy thinks. That is so entitled, on a level a Gogeta...

Maybe, just maybe, thinking this way: beginning work now is preparing for the future so that when is the future is ready to become publicly present, we won't have long to wait. I myself think this way: if DC is eventually done, that is an added security layer for the future, if ever original consoles begins to fail. Reminder: Super Famcoms were con...

Re: MiSTer Multisystem Laptop - LT prototype

I wanna have the MT32-Pi, because part of the MiSTer appeal is to revenge your youth when you had just a S3 video card with an Adlib card, but I don't mind keeping a desktop solution.

At least, there is a valid reason not to have this extension on a portable MiSTer.

Re: N64 Core Possibility? (Update! Robert Is Working On This Core!)

You are missing my point. You are talking from a consumer point of view, while I talk from an industry point of view. Quite different experiences, especially after the PS1: to succeed, you needed to reiterate what Sony did: unite both hardcore and mass markets. Dreamcast launch was hardcore market, not mass market. PS2 launch was both. Besides that...

Re: N64 Core Possibility? (Update! Robert Is Working On This Core!)

People really forgets the Japanese Dreamcast launch. Or maybe didn't you live it? But it was pathetic: from the start, Dreamcast was sold as the last chance console and the PS2 with the DVD player was when everyone, including Sega themselves, knew Sega hardware was done. Everywhere, people where telling to buy a PS2 instead of a DC, because of the ...

Re: MiSTer Multisystem Laptop - LT prototype

I love the concept. My concerns: - a bigger screen would be nice (I really can't stand these 9 or 10 inches screens); - 3D printing is still bumming me (to the point I passed on the Multisystem because of that); - MT32 is a must because it would be great for computer systems; - ports should be on the sides and behind, not in front (but that is a Mu...

Re: N64 Core Possibility? (Update! Robert Is Working On This Core!)

an even bigger fail, the 32X Anyone who believed in the 32X at that time was a fool. It was doomed even before the start. In fact, I think that more than the PS2, it was the original Xbox that really killed the Dreamcast. With Microsoft being able to lose money indefinitely, and Sony unstoppable and Nintendo still always profitable, even with the ...

Re: N64 Core Possibility? (Update! Robert Is Working On This Core!)

Curious what you disliked about gaming's direction then. Did you perhaps see it as a shift toward half-baked 3D and an abandonment of traditional 2D-playing games / 2D artwork? That is a part of it, but not only. Indeed, I do come from the 2D area (arcade, consoles and computers) and my favorite machine remains the Super Famicom. This is the only ...

Re: N64 Core Possibility? (Update! Robert Is Working On This Core!)

If you take numbers, from what I heard at the time – please correct me if needed –, while the N64 didn't sell as much as the PS1, it was way more profitable to Nintendo. A console success is basically measured by two factors: 1. How many units you sell; 2. How much money you make with it. And the second is not compared between two consoles, but bet...

Re: Are PVMs still unique?

PVMs are good, but not worth their prices. Given the current tech with low lag panels, great upscalers, et al., I don't see anymore the point in buying CRTs. I grew up with them, had RGB from the start (excepted Famicom, but heh) and I had my time with these. Current panels are not perfect, but they are almost perfect and erase most of CRTs default...

Well, I had two CRTs for sale. Bang & Olufsen, not the best, but not the worst either. With original remote, I offered €150 for the lot which was quite a fair price given the hardware, it's state and what I saw on the market. People were like "This has no value anymore, you should give it for free, I'll come pick it up today if you do so.&...

Yes and no.
Although the hardware is similar, each one has its own custom chips, so you can't convert one game to another (but you can change region and players, like going from TMHT 2P to TMNT 4P).

I would dare to say – but that's more a wink at Jotego than something serious – that Jotego can't do all boards at once. Give him time. *wink*

More seriously, I have to contact Jotego about a board, we may see what happens.

The other problem is the DE-10 is cheap because it is meant as a learning tool. You can't even buy the Cyclone-V part for the price of a whole DE-10. Bulk production would discount that some, but it's probably a break-even product at best. The hope is you'd use it as a eval/learning platform and then go on to build 'real' products with similar FPG...

More cores always welcome, but the board benefits from a specific status that is abused and is even infringing the licence it is sold under, so it definitely shouldn't be taken as granted and eternal. :-/
