The rankie adapter is listed in our mkdocs site as being known to not work correctly with MiSTer.
What kind of direct video adapter are you using?
That's the first I've heard of that forked core, looks interesting and would be cool if someone wanted to add some of those features into the main core who are more familiar with it.
That file is just documenting how it works. Mappers aren't added by a specific file, they have to be emulated/simulated with code.
Here ya go
Kevtris also documented Mapper 124
It doesn't seem to be supported by any emulators that I can see.
Audio is critical for me so this is an advantage that an old CRT doesn't provide anything to me. The smooth scrolling on the scaler is pretty much unmatched given the amount of options you get with it outside of maybe 1 super expensive external scaler.

EDIT: Worms also wouldn't launch, it did not detect dos4gw.exe or maybe the version is wrong for it.
New Core Release developed by ModalModule

What's better will depend on what you find out when you test it. Even from just one tv model to the next it can differ.
The newer version of the MiSTerAddons case should at least prevent the microSD card from falling in which is good. I use precision tweezers to get the microsd card out of mine, and yeah I just use ssh and SMB to administer the files on the card if needed.
