Re: Confused About ROM Placement?

After you run the update script all the folders in /media/fat/games should be made correctly. For the cps2 games you just want to put the mame roms directly in the mame folder in there. Darksoft arcade packs are not made for use with MiSTer, they are for og hardware. https://mister-devel.github.io/MkDocs_MiSTer/cores/console/ https://mister-devel.g...

That's the first I've heard of that forked core, looks interesting and would be cool if someone wanted to add some of those features into the main core who are more familiar with it.

Sounds great, but how does it work? I tried to just fire it directly on my CRT but only get scrambled image.

Try it on an HDMI display to be sure it's working right on your system first.

That file is just documenting how it works. Mappers aren't added by a specific file, they have to be emulated/simulated with code.

Re: My MiSTer Keeps Changing Its (Wired) IP Address All of a Sudden

Mister indeed increases the last digit of it's IP address after a reset, eventhough I have configured my DHCP server to hand out the same one based on the MAC address. In my pfSense router, when I set the option 'Ignore Client Identifiers' for the DHCP server, Mister does take the IP address I configured for it. It indeed this seems to be a proble...

Re: What Are the Reasons to Own a MiSTer Without a CRT?

Audio is critical for me so this is an advantage that an old CRT doesn't provide anything to me. The smooth scrolling on the scaler is pretty much unmatched given the amount of options you get with it outside of maybe 1 super expensive external scaler.

Re: Store All My Original Hardware and Use Only MiSTer

The wrong attitude, is bending over backwards to serve stupid people. This project is not for them. If stupid people want hand-holding, and an even simpler menu system than a text-based menu, then they can go buy a Raspberry Pi, and leave the Mister alone. I reject this arbitrary gatekeeping framing completely. Sorgelig and other devs have made pl...

Re: Store All My Original Hardware and Use Only MiSTer

I called it a CLI, because it is a CLI. Virtually every SSH terminal I've ever used looks and feels just like this. I mean, MiSTer reminds me a LOT of remotely configuring and deploying AIX servers. The MiSTer's on screen display has more in common with the menu on a consumer appliance like an older television when you go into the settings on your...

EVERYONE (that is not technically inclined) that I have ever shown the MiSTer to, this is ALWAYS the thing they complain about the most and a reason they would NOT buy one. I always feel weird when I read this. What is off-putting to them about the current menu? Press the menu button on the controller, load rom, pick the game you want to play. To ...

EDIT: Worms also wouldn't launch, it did not detect dos4gw.exe or maybe the version is wrong for it. I'm so sorry. I just retested both of these on my end and they are loadin...

Re: Please Post Your .ini Settings if You Are Using MiSTer on a 4K TV

It really depends on your tv's compatibility. My LG G1 is highly compatible with non-standard resolutions and refresh rates so typically I can get away with the following attached example. I take the default MiSTer.ini and modify these lines: hdmi_audio_96k=1 vscale_mode=4 video_mode=13 vsync_adjust=2 hdmi_game_mode=1 vrr_mode=1 and I add this exce...

Re: Getting ready to build my first MISTer - A few Qs

The main advantage to connecting to some 4k tv's is dependent on the compatibility of that TV with non-standard resolutions. The MiSTer can output a maximum of 2560x1440 resoultion with pixel repetition mode (which is actually doing 1280x1440 in a stretched way skinnier than normal, but it's telling your screen to double the pixels horizontally to ...
