Re: "rolling screen" when starting a core : long-term harm for CRT ?
during the rolling effect (about 2 seconds ), a core is already loaded and the signal is not dropped (because I see the message "Kbd mode..." on the screen. But I can't tell if it's from the "targeted" core or MiSTer main menu core !) If I understand you correctly, you are seeing a stable box with the OSD saying "'kbd mode...

Re: "rolling screen" when starting a core : long-term harm for CRT ?
This won't damage your CRT. You could try playing with your vertical hold adjustment on your CRT to see if you can improve things (or make them worse). :) I respect your opinion, but what is your justification ? How can you justify that without knowing the signal output ? I'm not saying the signal is down for 2 seconds. But that the period it is d...

Re: "rolling screen" when starting a core : long-term harm for CRT ?
New interesting theories, let's see that. 15khz is the horizontal refresh, the vertical refresh can vary. Most NTSC consoles are around 59.97 but not exactly, with the SNES being slightly above and the Genesis being slightly below, for example. Arcade cores can deviate more and anything PAL will be down to 50. I use my SNES and Genesis both with PA...

Re: "rolling screen" when starting a core : long-term harm for CRT ?
Thanks for your feedback. Still, it does not explain whats happens. My MiSTer "core menu" outputs 15 kHz, the cores I use also all outputs 15 kHz. (I don't use ao486 on this CRT TV) So why the rolling effect for a few seconds ? => It's not like going from 240p to 480i : this change happens in less than 1 second, without rolling effect. (e...

Re: "rolling screen" when starting a core : long-term harm for CRT ?
Can you explain what you mean with "loss of sync" ? I think there is a signal coming (since I can read "Kbd mode : Joystick 1" while the rolling effect is effective)
My question is : what are the properties of this signal ? (see "assumption 1" in 1st post)

"rolling screen" when starting a core : long-term harm for CRT ?
Hello, I'm using mainly a CRT TV with my MiSTer and I usually get a "rolling screen" for a few seconds each time I start a new core. (For example : if it's the Neogeo core, the screen shows at this moment "Kbd mode : Joystick 1") I would like to understand what happens at this time, what triggers this effect. I guess my CRT rece...

Re: Moonlight game streaming
Thanks to this thread : https://misterfpga.org/viewtopic.php?t=7528 I just realized that MiSTer FPGA can be a great "CRT display client". Unfortunately, "Groovy_MiSTer core" can only be used with a few selected apps (mame, retroarch, mednafen) Moonlight game streaming could be the "swiss-knife" we need. Unlike the init...

Re: HDMI digital audio extractor for MiSTer with SPDIF input
[*] Get an HDMI audio extractor (I've used this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06ZYJT4WM ), connect its TOSLINK output and the one from your PC (I'm assuming your PC has optical/TOSLINK output and not coax, both are technically S/PDIF) to a cheap passive TOSLINK switch (the one I have doesn't seem to be sold anymore, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06...

Re: HDMI digital audio extractor for MiSTer with SPDIF input
Thanks for taking time to reply. For the device pictured, if you can take digital coax audio from your PC to it, then you could take mini toslink or full size toslink optical from your MiSTer to the optical input. If you use something like the Audioengine D1, you could connect your PC to it via USB, and take mini toslink or full size toslink optica...

HDMI digital audio extractor for MiSTer with SPDIF input
Hello, I'm not sure If I am in the right subforum, but let's try here. I would like to connect my MiSTer digital audio output (through HDMI ) and my PC digital audio output (through SPDIF) to a single DAC / audio extractor that will feed my speakers. (Both analog audio outputs of my PC and MiSTer are crappy) Do you think this device could work ? ht...

Re: "complex" cores ?
Thanks for the clarifications.
As I have already a heatsink and a fan, I understand I need to activate the fan only if I start to get crashes / errors.

Re: "complex" cores ?
Thanks for all your helpful comments. So if I understand them correctly : - "complex" is hard to define - all cores generate (more or less) the same heat, with 2 exceptions : cores that use overclocking (only ao486 ?) cores that use a lot of I/O with big files : ROM (Neogeo ?), CD (MegaCD, TG16 ?), VHD (ao486, minimig, MacPlus, AtariST ?)...

"complex" cores ?
I read at the end of the FAQ : https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/Main_MiSTer/wiki/Frequently-Asked-Questions#the-de-10-is-rated-for-up-to-100%C2%B0c-operation-and-it-doesnt-get-nearly-that-hot-do-i-really-need-a-fan-or-heatsink The DE-10 is rated for up to 100°C operation and it doesn’t get nearly that hot. Do I really need a fan or heatsink? A numbe...

/root folder wiped
Hello,
I have just seen that I cannot ssh using keys into my MiSTer. In fact my /root folder has been wiped (and that includes /root/.ssh/authorized_keys )
Fortunately it's easy to restore.
Is it related to the "Linux update" from 2 days ago ?
Do you know which other important folders will get wiped after every Linux update ?
Thanks.

Safe to leave the MiSTer "always on" ?
Hello,
do you think it is safe to let the MiSTer always powered, "idling" on the main menu ?
By the way, does anyone know what its power consumption in this mode ?
Thanks.

Re: Multi cores/roms "attract mode" with Linux bash script
Thanks for the reply ! I'm not sure if I'm still skilled enough to deal with sockets in C, but I could try.
Do you have any links about this ? I can't find anything on the forum.

Re: Best way to monitor DE10 temperature
Hello,
MiSTer project is such a great piece of software and hardware, I'm also worried keeping it as safe as possible.
So there is no on chip sensor.
Is another non-obvious way to detect overheating ? Kind of "throttling messages" in the logs ?
By the way, do you know if the CPU auto-underclock itself when it overheats ?
Thanks
