Re: MARS is now...MPRS?
So far, all MARS has produced is theories and promises, not one of which has been kept. I can't figure out for the life of me why anyone believes they will produce anything more than fantasy.

Re: Need some advice to restore the aspect ratio without shimmering.
You can't have it both ways. 1:1 PAR won't shimmer but won't be in proper aspect ratio. 1:1 DAR will be proper AR but will exhibit shimmering. Pick your poison.

Ouch.
For those not following the Vogons thread, it looks like the optimizations that made a Pi 4 possible also broke the output.
Bummer.

Re: Nuked-SC55 and emusc: Roland SC-55, emulated, 2024 Edition
I agree wholeheartedly with Dale Whinham. nukeykt's emulator is not the way forward (for anyone with the possible exception of DOSBox). It'll take longer, but the eventual gold standard will be EmuSC, where real collaboration is happening.

Re: Nuked-SC55 and emusc: Roland SC-55, emulated, 2024 Edition
I actually don't think that's it. He's said repeatedly he doesn't want people profiting off his work - which is ironic given that it's actually a reinterpretation of Roland's intellectual property and design. I'm not a fan at all of how he's gone about any of this, but not my code and not my call.

@Karmeck Elvind has offered to rescind those patches due to concerns over how a Pi would be used.

Re: Apple IIGS MiSTer Core Progress
Unless there's an installer directly supplied with the game, you generally just drag the disk to a GS/OS folder, which in turn creates a folder with the disk's name that you can launch from.
I'm surprised about the need to boot them, though - do you have a specific game you're referring to?

Re: Nuked-SC55 and emusc: Roland SC-55, emulated, 2024 Edition
The creator of MT32-Pi has been extremely clear he would not pursue anything at all with Nuked SC-55 so long as the licenses remain incompatible.

Re: Apple IIGS MiSTer Core Progress
It's a super fun but super duper quirky little machine.
If a core ever comes to fruition, it'll be interesting to see if the vast array of peripherals (RAM card, accelerator, SCSI card, and stereo sound card come to mind) will be supported/supportable. The slot architecture alone will make a total mess of the UI. laughs

Re: Is it possible to hide cores without deleting them?
It -used- to work, I'm certain of it, but I just tried it myself and mine just shows (in this case) "Amiga:" as a core. Sorry about that.

Re: 0MHz DOS Collection 2024.03.20 Released
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think one of the reasons some of the games are underperforming is because sysctl can't yet set the core to very high speeds.

Re: Is it possible to hide cores without deleting them?
I'm pretty sure if you put an entry in names.txt that is just "<core>:" without quotes (i.e. aliasing the core name to nothing), it has the effect of hiding it in the menu.

@dickhardpill CHD can represent extremely significant (read: more than 50%) savings vs. BIN, depending on the nature of the content.

@Idelacio Asking entirely out of ignorance...wouldn't the Gold Box games be better suited to the XT? (I may be misremembering timeframes here.)

SNAC isn't supported, but the latency of Daemonbite is low enough you wouldn't notice the difference in practice.
EF is already supported.

Huh. I just looked up a photo (which I probably should have started with LOL), and sure enough, you're right - they are indeed wider than I remember, and absolutely not 4:3. Ah, the beauty of 35-year-old memories. laughs
