Re: Sega Saturn Core in Development
I think there's a problem with the repo. During the build process, there are some relative paths to seem to leave the project folder. For example:

Re: The Verge Published an Article on MiSTer
With more demand, wouldn't it make more business sense to ramp up production and keep the price as is or lower it? Yes it would, if there wasn't an extreme shortage of components used to make them. If automakers in the US shut down production lines of cars due to component shortages, you can't just "ramp up production". The world right n...

Re: Super Mario Bros Demo Out of Sync
I think we need clarity on what "out of sync" means. For example, does audio not line up with video (e.g. Mario jumps, but sound plays early/late)? Or does out of sync mean that the demo is not starting/stopping at the same place on each run? Please provide a technical explanation of what specifically is out of sync in this instance.

Can you access the dip switch settings for the game? Either in the OSD, or via the .mra file? If so, you might be able to change the coin switch settings so that there is only one coin button as opposed to everyone having their own. Or for that matter, can you enable free play via the same methods?

Re: Game Gear aspect ratio
Just spitballing here, but I suspect that the option found its way into the core because the Game Gear and Master System are identical, or at least in enough ways that somebody might not bother to do rework to implement the other one (at least that's how the emulator folks approach these systems). I do realize that FPGA development isn't necessaril...

Re: Unable to overwrite file on .d64 disk?
Yes, you're doing something wrong. On the C-64, you can't just overwrite a file by using the SAVE command again. See this page for more details. To overwrite, you can use this command (but it comes with caveats, so do your own research into the matter):
SAVE "@0:FILENAME",8
Hope that helps!

Re: RDI Halcyon Laserdisc Game System Prototype
For example, in Ben Heck's video, Thayer's Quest had disc rot. I'm curious, did he mention whether or not it was identical to the arcade laserdisc? Of course, there's not a thing FPGA can do to recreate a laserdisc, which is kind of the meat-and-potatoes part here. Well, while that's technically a true statement since the FPGA isn't an analog vide...

Re: Homebrew NES port of the arcade version of Donkey Kong
Thread necromancy! Was support for this ever added? If I'm not mistaken, there were no NROM games that supported battery-backed SRAM. So that means this game runs on a "custom" mapper, even though the concepts are well-known (NROM and Save Support). Emulators have to have mappers defined and emulated in the emulator itself, because ROMs a...

Re: Donkey Kong and diagonal controls
Uhm, I am not experiencing any sound/music issues with this game. Unfortunately, I agree with mhartman. Donkey Kong has 2 separate audio sections on the PCB. Analog and Digital. The analog sound just doesn't come through correctly. I'm not even sure if it can be fixed. I'm sure it's probably the equivalent of trying to 100% emulate a Commodore SID...

Re: Colors just seem off for NES Ivan Stewarts Offroad
Well, that depends. Several questions are in order. What video output are you using on MiSTer? RGB, HDMI? If analog video, which I/O board? What are you basing your color comparison on? When and where did you play the game first? On a real NES on an old CRT or an emulator? The answer to those questions ultimately dictates your own answer. The unfor...

...Is there a way to slide the image horizontally so it doesnt get cut off? So here's the rub with CRTs. The game developers and console manufacturers actually banked on part of your screen being cut off. If you think about the opposite problem (underscan), then you realize the alternative is battling black bars. So most game developers would inte...

Re: MiSTer Doesn't Recognize SD Card I Want to Use
Did you follow the directions here when setting up the new card? From your description, it sounds like you're trying to manually choose the file system type, etc., which will not work without lots of file system hackery as there are important areas of the SD card that are not copied in a file copy from one card to another. The instructions at that ...

I don't think Sorgelig was entertaining new requests for features, just that some room has been freed up for future endeavors. You've asked for things that have been asked for many, many times -- and some of them won't ever happen on MiSTer as it exists today, due to lack of resources available on the FPGA itself.

Re: Screen Mirroring
It can be done super easily with a 3-4 minute hack of the yoke wires on the CRT tube. You just need to identify which axes need to be mirrored, and then snip and flip the wires for those yokes on the monitor itself. If you didn't want the permanent change, you could always try to wire up a switch to control flipping. Some monitors from that era hav...

I think the kernel has to be compiled with a special option to enable native support for that controller. I'll look into it and report back what I can find. I may take my EPROM burner to the arcade and dump the ROMs to see if mame identifies them. Are you using the ROM set names that mame uses? If so, that will help me determine if I have access to what you need.

Re: How can I use an arcade cabinet button to turn on MiSTer? (momentary to latching switch relay?)
I'm probably saying what others may already be thinking -- but why would you just not purchase a switch that stays ON when pressed, and OFF when pressed again? It feels really overly-engineered to go after the approach you've outlined above, unless you're doing some really specific aesthetic thing, or requiring the button to be usable for more than...

Re: Phaser Light Gun
I think the horizontal refresh rate may be the issue. If you're using a 31KHz VGA/SVGA monitor, that may be the issue entirely. I wouldn't expect the lightgun to work with anything that isn't 15KHz direct video, without additional ROM hackery/electronics to compensate for it.

Re: Faster USB keyboard and mouse polling
Well, this is another case where trying to improve on the original design of the hardware could potentially be counterproductive. For example, without additional code, increasing the polling interval on the keyboard would likely result in additional keystrokes being pressed -- i.e. Trying to type: cd C:\DOS Could inadvertently turn into: cccddd CCC...

Have you tried the sync on green switch in the other position? I'm not sure if component uses SoG as a part of the spec or not, but since component doesn't have its own sync line, that sounds right that it is ON. When working with direct video through HDMI into an HDMI->VGA converter, I ran into green issues, but in my case, I think the issues were...
