Re: CGC Round 12 core: Sega Genesis / Mega Drive

A hidden gem that people still seem to miss. In my opinion, the best game Data East has ever made:

Atomic Runner.

One of the best shoot em ups on the platform, only released in Japan:

Battle Mania 2

I second Rocket Knight Aventures, Gunstar Heroes and Contra Hard Corps. These are some of my favorites!

Re: MiSTerFPGA Y/C Out Module (Direct - S-Video / Composite Output) - Update

Amazing work Mike, thanks a ton!

Sidenote while on the topic of YC cores, I had an issue previously with getting mras for YC arcade cores. I haven't looked into this issue of mine in a while, but if someone has tips on where/how to download, I'm a taker.

Thanks again, this work is incredibly appreciated!

Or is it ok to use VGA to component, then use an RCA Y cable to combine green and red for composite?

Thanks.
I believe using a simple RCA Y to combine green and red for composite will give the best result.
Edit: Apparently, my assumption was wrong, oops!

Re: S-Video and Composite Over Component Output! (Custom Cores)

A good tip for the arcade cores, create a folder called _YCArcade and _YCArcade/cores, please the MRA files in the main folder and the yc arcade cores into the cores folder. Thats currently what I do and it works great, no more worrying about arcade cores getting wiped out. :) Sorry if this should be obvious, but where should I get the .mra files ...

Shout-outs to Mike, I have never been able to play Atomic Runner with such accuracy before. Your cores make my 1702 monitor sing!

Personally, I am totally fine with that limitation. I can use RetroArch to goof around with friends online, and MiSTer to actually try to get better at games that demand low latency. I have never owned an XBAND myself, so I don't really know what I'm missing out on (possibly a bunch of headaches).

Looking forward to more TGM ports in the future, but until then I'll be happily grinding TGM1 :)

It is simply a matter of convenience and curiosity of knowing if it was at all possible to do.

Re: Launching a Script Without Rebooting The MiSTer?

Thanks for your response! Maybe I worded my issue badly, let me try this again: I am not asking about Bluetooth in particular (connectivity works great for me at the moment), I am asking about running scripts in general. When a core is launched, I see no way to launch scripts. For example, I could not run update_all.sh from the OSD while the Genesi...

Launching a Script Without Rebooting The MiSTer?

Sometimes I am in the middle of a game and need to launch a script (e.g. Bluetooth pairing). The only way I know to gain access to the Scripts submenu is the reboot the MiSTer and lose progress in the game. This isn't ideal... Is there a key combo I missed? Is this a limitation of the FPGA? I find this weird, since in theory I can still SSH into th...

Re: General thoughts on GunCon2 vs SNAC with original light gun

Same thought as lu above me, I prefer the GunCon (I don't have SNAC adaptors, though). Simply being able to navigate menus with the gun and switching cores without ever having to change controllers or cable setups is simply too convenient to pass up. Besides, the GunCon feels as accurate to me as my original zapper on my NES. The fact I can add a c...

Re: MiSTer BGM - Background Music for the MiSTer Menu

Nice! I can't wait to try this out. I've spent a great deal of time collecting songs to play on my RetroPie menu. For anyone interested, here's a dump of the songs I accumulated (600+), there's a lot of VGM but also random songs that I thought would fit for an engaging video gaming menu screen (apologies in advance for the messy filenames, though):...

Re: "Shimmering" effect over composite video

so I was still kind of curious about setting up the MiSTer on some of the smaller, purely composite-only sets I have. You can hunt a Commodore 1702 monitor (easier said than done, but they are easy to find online) and grab a split chroma/luma adapter. That's what I use. http://herculesworkshop.com/cgi-bin/p/awtp-product.cgi?d=hercules-workshop&...

Re: My favorite things about the MiSTer FPGA

A lot of good takes in this thread! There are many things I like about the MiSTer, but I think that what I like best is - It allows me to play games the way they were intended by their creators without having to pay money to a scalper - It levels the playing field for anyone trying to get high scores on arcade games. I'm having more fun than ever s...

Re: "Shimmering" effect over composite video

Luckily, the S-Video output on Antonio's adapter doesn't have nearly as bad shimmering / crawl dot, so if your monitor supports that input option, I recommend you check it out. The results might be sufficient for your needs.
