Newer ones are built to run on even newer hardware & likely even less compatible with aging hardware. Going older is the most rational approach.

Great, thanks. I've had a long break from MiSTer but there's lots to catch up on. So impressed by the amount of development this project has.

As long as you have it turned off when plugging cables in there should be no problems.jca wrote: ↑Thu Dec 10, 2020 4:14 pm I plan to get an HDMI repeater in order to protect the DE-10 nano, I think it is worth the expense.

Re: DE-10 not booting - green user light only
The boards are clearly sensitive to static, my first board had it's HDMI port zapped just by plugging into a monitor. I keep it as a spare since VGA out still works using add-on board. It's something to be aware of when plugging peripherals in (keep it turned off) & assembling/modifying. Hope you ge...

Re: support for pimoroni keybow please
I'm sure I used a Bluetooth & USB keyboard at the same time (I had to use USB full size KB to map a key missing on mini Bluetooth board). That was months ago, can't imagine it's removed that functionality though).

Re: Super Mario Bros 256 level glitch
This sounds like an old April fools joke! Other insane tips include urinating in the cartridge port before plugging in SMB3 for bonus levels, and of course plugging a human turd into the cartridge slot to get a virtually identical experience to SMB2. Actually, that last one is pretty accurate...

Re: Has anyone tried a 1TB MicroSD card in their MiSTer?
I saw elsewhere that a person has the top 300 best PSX games including multi disks and they fit on 165GB Double that for Sega CD and Turbo CD and you have 330 leaving 170GB for the rest and I would say you are fine with 512. You really don't need to cram the drive with crappy or bad games you will ...

Re: Has anyone tried a 1TB MicroSD card in their MiSter?
1TB are very overpriced - that way I could get 2x 512GB cheaper. I have 512GB and wondering if will be option to use IO Board's sd slot as additional storage, but I heard that it is not possible. Get a tiny usb microSD reader for the other. I have one made for a keyring & it's a snug fit. Very handy.

Re: Does using VGA on a modern LCD TV make sense?
My LCD w/VGA port doesn't like the MiSter VGA output for some reason--it gives it a purplish tint. I did some really casual lag testing, and don't think there's any difference between what I get on that panel using VGA vs HDMI input. Turn on ypbpr & make sure SOG switch is on correct setting, that ...

Re: The benefits of CPU speed for Amiga
I can't get Another World to run it all. It just freezes at a green screen after the initial code screen That's nice, green is such a lovely colour. I fail to see how CPU speed would benefit you here though. Is it just that it would it get you to that green screen you crave that nanosecond faster? ...

with a top plate on top of my fan plate PCB + fan, what's the easiest way to ensure the fan doesn't move when I blow onto the board below it? try to wedge my finger in there and hold it in place? a little tape? As for canned air - it won't damage anything only the environment :p HFC-134a and HFC-152a are greenhouse gases used in canned air While canned air probably isn't great for the environment, there's probably so much environmental carnage from the materials, production & shipping of his MiSTer, a few...

It's a dynamo. I've used fans as dynamos before. what's that mean? sorry haha Hah, no problem. A dynamo is just an electric generator. The kind your car has to charge up the battery, as the wheels turn they turn dynamo & it charges the battery. It's literally just like an electric motor reversed as...

Re: Minimig HDF disk transfer speeds
To give a bit context of computer speeds in days of yore, here's a little true story. Now boys & girls, settle down & listen... In 1996 I was going to uni & realised I'd have limited space in my small room in halls of residence. I had an unexpanded A1200 with a 420mb PC HDD jammed in it. So I decide...

Re: MiSTer SD Card read speed - Any point in going for the quickest?
USB HDD/SSD is definitely slower than using internal microSD. My Lexar 512Gb card runs pretty fast for Windows 98 on AO486. External 256Gb SSD is noticeably slower, which is a bummer. I had hoped the SSD would cope better with simultaneous r/w's than MicroSD. Before anyone says I'm a fool for using ...

Re: 68020 AGA core - 2 game issues
The Amiga was not just "a computer", Amiga's were lots of different computers. While the AGA ones were generally backwards compatible, most older games required specific settings or software patches. WHDLoad does an incredible job of making all the games work fine on a single Amiga system. It would ...

Incorrect, there is no Fire & Ice AGA Slave... But indeed there are quite a few OCS games not starting and indicating "illegal instuction". Another example is Iridium and Simulcra. All of them do work in 68k / OCS mode. I had the same issue with some OCS WHDLoad games on AGA setup using MegaAGS. I'...

HELP - Fan at 3.3v on older IO board
Hi, I have an older IO board without the fan speed jumper. I'm running a 5v Noctura fan, which is quieter than the original fan, but still an audible irritation. Can anyone give me a "simple" guide to getting the fan to run at 3.3v? The Noctura came with a ludicrously lengthy cable so I already spli...

There's an "easyflash" CRT version on CSDB. That wouldn't require any disk swap, it'll load faster and should be properly cracked.

Re: Bell sound
To be clear, this patch only fixes the "standard bell", the bell that you get when character 7 (Ctrl-G) is printed. The keyboard buffer full indicator, and the PC Speaker sound in games, do not depend on this patch at all. Yes, I believe Mean Streets used PWM techniques to reproduce PCM sound, and ...
