Re: Sometimes a Direction Input Gets Stuck in Any Controller

I've had this problem occur with me for years and I remember recently on youtube, it was either Lu or Pixel cherry ninja talking about the new white 8bitdo M30 and how it doesn't exhibit this behaviour anymore. I only personally encountered this issue with the 8bitdo M30 2.4Ghz USB. I have a white M30 on order and I now have the genesis M30, but d...

Does it work on MiSTer wirelessly via both Bluetooth and 2.4ghz or just 2.4ghz (with the dongle)?

I've just tried it and it works perfectly via Bluetooth as well.

Which retailer did you buy it from in Netherlands?

Which way are scanlines supposed to go when in Tate mode?

I'm pretty sure that scanlines always go horizontally when in normal orientation because that's how the electron gun moved, from top to bottom, but when you turn the display on its side, i.e. tate mode, it doesn't change the orientation of the electron gun, right? Meaning if I turn the display 90° clockwise, the gun would scan from the right to the...

Re: MiSTer Super Attract Mode (SAM) is now available - the first game screensaver for your MiSTer!

When you push start to play the game, is it supposed to jump straight into the game or does it reload the game from scratch?

For me, it seems to reboot the MiSTer into the game instead of just letting you take over.

Re: Dell 2007FPb - Any experiences?

"good enough"?... to whom? Is it useable? yes. I used it for a couple of months. Is it optimal? no. Especially with greys. I dark mode everything and grey text with grey background simply doesn't show the text at all no matter what, but on the OLED, it's clear as day. As I said, it's amazing for MiSTer, but for use with modern systems, th...

Re: Dell 2007FPb - Any experiences?

I've been using this display as a second monitor with my M1 Mac mini. The other screen is a CX 48" OLED. I've found the colours to be terrible when used with the Mac - quite muted and the dymanic range seems to be very low. I've switched back to using it with the MiSTer and the colours are absolutely POPPING! I just thought I'd write here agai...

HD mounting to usb1 on cold reboot

I don't know where to put this exactly, but it only seem to be an issue with this core as far as I can tell so far... so here goes. I just have 1 external storage device attached to my MiSTer formatted as EXFAT and on normal startup, it mounts to usb0. However, when I do a cold reboot, most of the time it re-mounts into usb1. Meaning the location o...

Re: Unable to point the ao486 core to VHDs on my USB hard drive -- why not?

I had the problem where the external HD would sometimes mount in usb0 and other time usb1.

I edited the fstab to mount in usb0 every time at boot, but it still happened sometimes when I cold reboot. Not sure why it happens to be honest. The symlink is a nice trick. I might try it with both usb0 and usb1 if my problem persists.

I don't know if this is the correct place to post this, but seeing as MT32 support is vastly more prevalent on the PC core, I guess it's kind of appropriate. Disclaimer: I'm a total novice when it comes to MIDI and DOS games. After a week-long journey, I've finally managed to experience the joys of MT32 audio (spoiler: it's amazing) and I used onl...

Sad to see it go this way. Would appear from the outside to be an issue about % ownership of the project/proceeds which might explain the "friction". Disappointed about the news, but Laxer has been very open and forthcoming with all information up to this point and at least all the work Patreons have supported has been put up on GitHub. I...

Re: Dell 2007FPb - Any experiences?

After seeing the comments here I've decided to pull the trigger on a 2007FPb. Got one from eBay UK for a very good price. Also ordered a new-old stock AX510 soundbar to go with it. Keeping realistic expectations, but it should be fun to see what it is like. Slightly off-topic, but has anyone tried any of the high-end/professional 4:3 1600x1200 mon...

Re: Dell 2007FPb - Any experiences?

I have this screen and find it really amazing purely because of the resolution. The saturation and brightness are really nice too. The tilt swivel stand is really nice for TATE games. It's also amazing for AO486 cos it fills up the entire screen. I personally don't like black bars whenever possible. DODONPACHI fills up the entire display too. I hav...

Re: Ok let's talk seriously about a MiSTer handheld...

Ultimately, if I were to invest in a MiSTer handheld, I would want it to be in the dream resolution of 1600x1440 resolution like the analogue pocket. That is only a 3.5" display, but I personally think that's big enough for a handheld and more space could be dedicated to front-facing stereo speakers. This display is available on AliExpress he...

I'm firmly in the "almost all design is entirely subjective" camp. I don't agree with that, it would mean that you wouldn't have to study to become a good designer and there wouldn't be any designers that are generally considered to be very talented. Apart from developing an eye for good design by studying and practicing it, there are lo...

Re: SD card and preservation of games question

SD cards and flash memory are volatile in nature due to the need for the presence of a static charge in order to keep the data bits "alive" but the time frame is normally around 10 years. That's a hell of a long time to keep something on flash memory, never to be touched and I find that kind of local back up unrealistic as a game rom coll...

Re: SD card and preservation of games question

Are you basically asking about backing up your roms? DId you rip all the roms from your personal collection? If so, that's a lot of work and I would back it up. Copy it to a USB drive or something. Speed shouldn't really matter. Just backup the ROMS and then you might want to do a periodic backup of your saves. MiSTer has a feature that can keep yo...

Hmm, I like almost everything about that case in the posted YT video by callanabrown except the drink holder, but it's a nice personal touch. Why I hate emulation.

Basically, it's because you never know what you're going to get. There is far too much tinkering and tweaking to get things looking just right and suiting the capabilities of your hardware. That statement sounds like it might be relevant to PC gaming in general compared to console gaming, and you may have a point, but with PC, you generally tweak w...

I've been messing around with PSX emulation the past few days and one thing I've re-confirmed to myself is that OG PS1 graphics are really poor and makes for a very bad gaming experience. I think the graphics need to be at least 2X internal resolution to be playable today on modern displays and if there was the option for Geometry Correction, that ...
