Re: PSX Compatibility List

I downloaded and compiled the latest core, the readme states CDs must be single track and EU region. Try US region, i couldnt get a single EU game to work. Maybe that depends on the bios rom? I have no idea where the SCPH1001.BIN i use came from. The games FPGAzumSpass mentioned work for me in US version. Tomb Raider V Japanese is ok too, at least...

Re: Custom Fightstick & Spinner

Hi!
I build something similar a couple of months ago, but far less nice and in a wood box.
A Spinner, a joystick and up to 12 buttons, everything is connected to a single Arduino nano.

Firmware and some info on github

Re: Please give some suggestions for my new MiSTer Daughter Board

Please put only the basic needed stuff on the first pcb, the boards are easily stackable with this layout and all other stuff can be put on addon pcbs. So only sdcard, hdmi, network, usb, audio (i2s, toslink, headers or 3.5mm) and maybe a audio in channel for tape. Spare as many pins as possible for debugging output and things like snac or a video ...

Loading multiple ROMs from computer core?

Hello everybody! I'm still working on the KC85/4 core but can't figure out a good way to load the firmware ROMs. This computer has 3 eproms for its firmware and there are multiple versions i'd like to support, some of them use different sizes. The ROMs are available in sets of 3 files, one file for each eprom. What would be the best way to do this?...

Re: East German Poly-Play

Yes, it was your comment that triggered me! :) I never heard of soviet arcades before. I wish i had the time and money to travel and play the original arcade cabinets. Sadly there are no public dumps of the other games made for the TIA-MC1, or at least i couldnt find them. If anyone has any, please let me know! There is a short view of a working Av...

Re: East German Poly-Play

Both Arcades are updated now. And i had a look at my notes. The TIA uses a pixelclock of around 5,25 MHz, that equates to 51,2us videodata per line (256 pixel), well within the 52us PAL defines (afaik). The PolyPlay uses around 8,8 MHz, 57,7us (512 pixel) of video per line and i have no idea how that worked on real hardware, so i raised the pixelcl...

Thats great news, many thanks for testing! :)

I will update both arcades later today and maybe i can work something out how to change some of the parameters via osd.

Thats the first time i get feedback from someone with a real crt-tv :)

My flatscreen has no problems to sync to both and i'm surprised there is so much of the picture missing on the right.
Give me a little time to think about it..

Re: I hope they put more support with some hacks.

It looks like the roms found at the usual sites are simply in the wrong format. The serial console says none of the expected files are found when trying to start it, though the super plus is actually in the romset.xml. And no, i don't know how to convert the roms or have the game up and running. If you want to play it, find a way to convert/find ro...

MiSTer_Kirk wrote: Wed Mar 10, 2021 2:13 pm Anyway, where do you put the PolyPlay.rbf?
Just run the update script, it should download everything you need.
The rbf in /_Arcade/cores/, the mras in /_Arcade/ and the roms (0.220) in /games/mame/

Btw, the joystick is on wrong side too! The soviet arcade has a similar layout, looks like that was the way to go back there and then. :)

Re: East German Poly-Play

I hope we can get a few Soviet arcade cores at some point too! While waiting for my analog io board to arrive i had a look at the TIA-MC1 soviet arcade. The graphics part is kind of complicated, but it boots and there is something on the screen to see. Sprites, sound, input and other things are still missing and its not playable yet. Konek-Gorbuno...

Re: East German Poly-Play

Theres a lot of info in the mame driver and some of the roms are available for mame. https://github.com/mamedev/mame/blob/master/src/mame/drivers/tiamc1.cpp The basic system is russian equivalents to Intel 8080 tech, the memory layout is in the driver and the "only" thing left is the graphics hardware. Mame has a debugger built in to view...

Re: East German Poly-Play

Last night i played a little longer and it crashed a couple of times. Looks like a bad idea to allow the cpu to write to rom areas, is fixed now. the MAME-getter script downloaded the roms correctly as well :D Good to know, didn't see that :) Schießbude is kinda deeper than it looks at first glance, the reloading box top left, the multipliers top r...

Yes, sooner or later i will have a look at how mra and all that stuff works.

The Video Games Museum in Berlin has one of them, i believe all the information that went into the mame driver came from that one.

Re: East German Poly-Play

Analog video is on my list for when i have an analog io board. Right now it outputs sync somewhere in the vicinity of a vga signal, but i aim for correct tv sync in the end. Though i'm not sure if that is whats needed.

Right now the roms are embedded in the core, i think that means its unfit for Main.

Re: Robotron KC87 core port

Some games on the PolyPlay are real fun to play!

I'm trying to get a KC85/x to find out why the joystick doesn't really work on the KC85/4 core. So far the first seller on Ebay let me down cause the price was too low (damaged while packing...). Maybe i will find another for a good price.

East German Poly-Play

Hello everybody, while being a little stuck with the KC85/4 core i found the Poly-Play arcade from East Germany was based on similar hardware. A Z80+CTC+PIO and all information to make it work could be found in the mame driver for it. I still have no way to test analog video out, so most likely HDMI only. So here it is . :) Some information about i...

Re: Robotron KC87 core port

I found the speed problem, the original author already implemented a turbo mode and i failed to understand it. Now its switchable in the osd.
There is sound output too now, tape noise can be turned on in the osd.

The games are now playable at close to the real speed and in all their glory :)
There might still be problems or errors though.

As Yim says, AVRISP mkII works for me too, at least on Arduino Micro boards.

But "can't open device "\\.\COM3": Zugriff verweigert" could mean some other program already opened the port.

I suggest you wait a little longer. There are more nice games than i had thought and the cores really don't do them justice in their current state.

The experience will get better as i learn more about the systems and how to implement them. :)

Re: Robotron KC87 core port

I added TAP file support to the core, but now its obvious that things are running a little fast. One more thing for the todo list..

There is more info on how to convert/use TAP files on github.

Its pretty crazy to see how sloow tapes really were back then:
