Re: Hybrid Developments

I see many new projects using the Pi Pico for various old-school enhancements. Has anyone considered using the Pico as some sort of accelerator for the MiSTer? Do we even have any free I/O on the board for such interfacing? The Pi Zero can be used to emulate a Roland MT-32, communicating via a virtual MPU-401 interface. https://misterfpga.org/view...

Mhhhh... It does not work. It's only 0.9mb instead of 4.2mb... what's wrong? Maybe it needs to be compiled?

I haven't tested it myself, my plan is to wait for the stable build.

Re: ISO CD's Do Not Work

I can't get any games to play on iso format CDs. When I try to read directory D: I get the message: "CDR103: CDROM not High Sierra or ISO-9660 format reading drive D Abort Retry Fail?" I have successfully installed the OAKCDROM.SYS driver and the BIN/QUE cds work fine... This might have been fixed yesterday: [zakk4223 2023-08-21 ed5d506]...

I didn't think it did, but just tried without the BT dongle. It failed. Just charges via USB C. is there a latency test app somewhere to check on these things as I know some are okay and some are slower than a ZX80 updating the screen while typing. The controller is fast enough when using it with a Switch, I'd say it won't be much slower with MiST...

I just had the same issue today after updating, and this is the only thing I could find about it. So just in case I will leave this in here for the next one:

The solution was to Ctrl+Alt+Del within ao486 for it to work.

Re: Why Doesn’t the Lion King Run Well on the AO486 Core?

Lion King runs horribly on a real 386. It works, but it’s slooooow. I don't currently have a real 386, so I didn't know the lion king game was very slow when playing. If so, I think the recommended lionking specification is 486sx and it seems clear that MiSTer's ao486 is not implementing enough performance of 486sx. AO486 is not the name that Sorg...

I'm quite happy with the modes proposed by Thorr above, I was wondering if somebody has a modeline for 320x240.

It's for the DOS version of Shenzhen Solitaire.

Re: VGA Mode Changing for 720x400 and 640x400

Maybe we need a tool to set the correct modeline from commandline/batch file before loading a game... that way we can have thick scanlines with old CGA/EGA modes and normal ones with VGA.

(Just kidding, I'm happy enough with the current feature)

Maybe it's not a matter of changing to the optical drive, maybe it's just a matter of giving it a few seconds.

If you need to introduce a pause into a batch file, you can try something like this:

Re: Starting-point DOS configuration for ao486 and all features (instructional)

Yeah, generally its still not a great solution, but seems pretty much perfect for DOS 6.22 stuff, since it probably wont support LFN anyway and this way you could get around the 2gb VHD limitation I am thinking that DOS 6.22 has. With MS-DOS 7.1/8.0 you can overcome that 2GB limitation, by using FAT32. If you need to stick to FAT16 and DOS 6.22, y...

Re: VGA Mode Changing for 720x400 and 640x400

My first PC (Olivetti PC-1) was CGA, but that monitor was a blurry mess compared to this one, so I guess that the scanlines would look way less sharp back then when I played MI1 for the first time. Then I jumped to SVGA. Monkey Island 1 was VGA (256 colors), so it is a bad example. I am going to delete my Monkey Island 2 screenshot because it is no...

Re: VGA Mode Changing for 720x400 and 640x400

I agree for VGA. For EGA (King's Quest 1 for example), it looks miles better with the other 320x200 modeline. Maybe it's my monitor, I tested Monkey Island 1 on EGA mode and the scanlines felt way too thick. I have to mention, I use this monitor with a real DOS gaming machine. Maybe a real CGA/EGA monitor+graphics adaptor will have more noticeable...

Update: So, for 320x200 games, if they are CGA/EGA era games (earlier Sierra games), use the 320x200@140.2Hz modeline I provided. If they are VGA era games, there should not be scan lines. I created a new modeline that is perfect for many VGA era games. These resolutions are 320x200, 320x400 and 640x400. They all can be integer scaled to 640x400@7...

If it causes issues with other cores or with the HDMI mode, could this be enabled/disabled with an option on mister.ini?

Games like Larry 7 and Civilization 2 run in Windows 3.1, so it is possible, with some work, to get them running within your environment, but I'm not sure if you are willing to go down that path. Another thing that I would like to comment is that some games from the time where re-released in CD without any improvement besides CD-Audio soundtrack. T...

Hi, Just tried the pack and I wanted to comment that my copy of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade adventure (6 x 360K floppy disks) has always ran on ao486, with Adlib sound ("indy256.exe a"), without issues, maybe there is something wrong with the Exodos version of the game that causes the error. Now it would be awesome that there was an option in ao486 to present the controller as a CH Flightstick Pro + Rudder Pedals, which should be compatible with most games (+Win9X) and relatively simple to translate: as far as I know, buttons to buttons, axes to axes and the only tricky part is to map the POV, as it sends 2-button combinations (also si...
