Re: N64 Core

@edr thanks for the troubleshooting tips! Coincidentally, I edited my post to add more info in the middle of you writing your response (hopefully my post isn't too wordy). I followed your advice, and unfortunately, I've not figured out the cause of the problem, but the old SD card I copied everything from works fine after updating the N64 core manu...

Re: N64 Core

Edit: The issue has been resolved, thanks everyone for your help! Original post below: I apologize for bringing up a weird issue I'm seeing, but I updated the N64 core and things are no longer working. I did delete the configuration file, but it didn't work. Below is everything I remember doing: Before: My N64 core worked perfectly. In the middle (...

Re: Nintendo 64 Input Situation

Naturally the best choice is going to be the official Switch NSO N64 controller (or the original N64 controller with some sort of adapter). Perfect 1:1 mapping. Are you sure that the Nintendo Switch N64 controller is 1:1 with the original? Did somebody on the internet test it? It seems the N64 Switch controller was built to use the same limited ra...

Re: Best SHMUPs for the MiSTer

So many posts, and not a single mention of Parodius, the undisputed absolute best shmup ever? I thought you were all cool ... But really, though, I highly recommend: Parodius Da! (NES, PCE, SNES, PS) Gokujou Parodius (SNES, PS) Jikkyou Oshaberi Parodius (SNES, PS) Sexy Parodius (PS) All of these games except Jikkyou were originally arcade games, bu...

Re: Super Mario Bros Demo Out of Sync

Sorry retrorepair and lupin3rd for not explaining. I was on my phone and hurried to answer the OP's question. The OP fenderc01 put some great videos of the issue in the thread, but for an explanation in text: Basically, Mario 1 plays a little demo on the title screen if you don't push any buttons. But due to a bug, that demo plays incorrectly the 1...

Re: Super Mario Bros Demo Out of Sync

The demo always plays out of sync, even on real hardware, for the first run. Then it plays in sync for subsequent runs.

Re: After MiSTer OS Update there are two revisions shown

That's most likely because there are two files you update on the root of your SD card: 1) MiSTer firmware file https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/Main_MiSTer/tree/master/releases (latest release: Dec 13 2020) 2) MiSTer menu core https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/Menu_MiSTer/tree/master/releases (latest release: Sep 8 2020) When I first started using the...

Re: Picade

From a quick glance, it looks like the Picade uses HDMI for the USB powered monitor, and it uses regular joystick buttons that are meant to connect to a custom Raspberry Pi hat. It also uses push-in connectors for the speaker. If that's the case, then you should be able to use it just fine with the MiSTer. However, you'll need a couple of things: 1...

Re: AO486 Core

There are instructions on the ao486 Github page here:
https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/ao486_MiSTer

There are also instructions for the imgset utility if you run it in DOS. (At least it appears there are; I only looked at its source code.)

Is there something in particular with the documentation that's unclear or confusing to you?

Re: Best Controller Setup For MiSTer?

Personally, I suggest not worrying about buying anything extra now, and to just use whatever controllers and/or keyboards you have on hand. The MiSTer's backend is Linux, and therefore it'll support pretty much anything you plug into it. Once you get your MiSTer and you play around with it a bit, THEN think about what you might want to buy to enhan...

Re: Nintendo DS Core

FPGAzumSpass is working on it. I believe they also occasionally post on this forum? But see: https://www.reddit.com/r/fpgagaming/comments/gvwe6f/nintendo_ds_fpga_implementation_first_commercial/ Basically, a Nintendo DS FPGA core that will be ported to the MiSTer is being worked on. However, one caveat is that the MiSTer doesn't have enough interna...

Re: MiSTer on a Samsung Q80T at 1440p?

@vibes I'm surprised that it works with such ludicrous over-clocking. You can try to reduce frequency by reducing blanking times, or switch to 50Hz. If you have Quartus installed, you can recompile the cores, adding in sys/sys_top.v : after : .RAMBASE(32,'h20000000), add the line : .OHRES(4096), And there will be no clipping. Thanks for the info! ...

Re: MiSTer on a Samsung Q80T at 1440p?

It's me again on this one-man-thread :D So I've plugged in a PC on my TV and indeed it supports 1440p: The issue seems to be the horizontal resolution: The TV seems to support 2560 but not 1920. Since MiSTer doesn't seem to support 2560 I can then say that it won't be possible to use MiSTer on this TV. :( A few weeks ago, I actually tried a resolu...
