Re: AmigaVision (MegaAGS) 2023.12.25 Released with Updated Game Configurations

thats a good point. Recently checked Bill's Tomato Game and music was way to fast. Now i know the reason. I think that approach is not true to the original. Why was it done this way? I'm speculating a bit, but I suspect it was to achieve maximum display compatibility with monitors that can't sync to PAL. Whatever the case, I agree with the masses ...

Re: Widescreen Super Mario World ROM Hack Possible?

Proper, non-anamorphic, widescreen support would fundamentally change the timing of the system. In software it’s trivial to “make up time” anywhere in the system, like in this case where the PPU is altered to effectively spend more time fetching VRAM data and rendering pixels on each line. It’s far from trivial to do this in hardware. Still, it’s c...

Hi Limi, First of all, thanks to you and the team for the great Amiga.Vision. One small remark: I have read on the GitHub that currently there is no tool to format in PFS3. Actually, there is one nice Windows/Mac/Linux tool that is able to both format in PFS3 and copy the files. You may want to give it a try: https://github.com/henrikstengaard/hst...

Hi All, Has anyone had any joy running MegaAGS Via RetroNAS (SMB/CIFS)? I can get the menu selection screen to appear and browse the games/demos but when I go to run anything I briefly see 'echo: unable to open redirection file' 'echo failed return code 10' on the workbench screen and it just flicks back to the menu selection. I'm thinking a maybe...

You can also use one of the alternative geometry slots on the monitor (overscan or 16:9) and set it up to massively underscan. You will probably not reach full screen, but you might get close. Also, the scanline separation will be pretty extreme.

Hi, I've been trying to make use of this. When I disable dynamic crop in the options menu, WHDLoad shows an error saying "setvadjust: unknown command" when booting a game. Is that normal?

The “disable dynamic crop” setting is broken in one release, and removed after that one.

Re: AmigaVision (MegaAGS) 2023.07.17 Released with Improved Launcher Reliability

On the AmigaVision webpage, it says to always run in 40:27 aspect ratio. But in the readme supplied with AmigaVision, it say to manually switch the aspect ratio setting depending on PAL 4x, PAL 5x, PAL 6x, etc. for each game. Which is correct? For the last two or three releases, 40:27 is always the correct AR setting. The image fed to the scaler w...

Shadow of the Beast no longer has the option to assign the second controller button to jump. Older MegaAGS releases had this option to enable. The recent WHDL installers (with the joypad option) had heavy graphical glitches so currently MegaAGS is configured to use an older one. More discussion in this thread . There might be other workarounds wor...

A fix is in testing and should be included in the next release.

Yes, I have seen the issue with screenshots not working sometimes after returning to the launcher from a game — this is an issue that has been present since the beginning of the project, I think. It does seem like on Pocket images will never load when returning from a game, which is not a behavior I’ve observed on other platforms. It’s easy to sus...

Re: Turrican II AGA Scrolling Issues

I don’t think there’s lack of love, but there are precious few people that would be able to fix the AGA chipset timings. Basically only a handful of people have intimate knowledge of undocumented AGA details (and it’s famously poorly documented), and another handful know their way around the minimig codebase. Not sure about how much these overlap.

Re: AmigaVision/MegaAGS 2023.06.06 Released with Favorites & Analogue Pocket Support

One question: Does your system allow independent centering and crop per game, in principle? Or are all "4xPAL" games for example centered the same way, and then all "5x PAL" games are also centered in one single way? This is configurable per-game using three values: scale factor, vertical shift and horizontal shift. If you peep...

For clarity? As I understand these settings only adjust the position for HDMI output, not the analog output. Its not like Jotego's CRT V/H stuff.

Indeed, the “adjust screen position” feature only affects the video scaler output.

For MegaAGS I have created a tool that generates vadjust files on the fly, with parameters for v/h shift and scale (4, 5 or 6x).

Source is available here, and I’ll try to attach a prebuilt AmigaOS binary. (I failed with the latter on the phone, but it’s available here.)

Regarding scaling: The image coming from the core will have 216 or 270 lines and a few varying widths, and all combinations are designed to be viewed at 40:27 display aspect ratio. At 1080p we get integer vertical scaling, which I find ideal. Since the core resolution have line counts evenly divisible by 1080 it doesn't matter what vscale_mode you ...

No, it’s not made for non-AGA Amigas. It would be possible to make the script create configurations only for OCS/ECS, but it hasn’t been something we have prioritized so far.

Actually there was support for creating an OCS version of the image early on. :)

But the result really was too slow to be enjoyable.
