Re: Small Linux distros (one is 1.44MB)

Since we are probably not going to get FPU anytime soon, other than software FPU, are there maybe any small Linux distros that can run on AO486?

Small Linux distros (one is 1.44MB)

I have been looking into some very small Linux distros and wanted to try them on the MiSTer and its AO486 core. One is Kolibri OS, which can run from a 1.44MB floppy and somehow still have a web browser, file manager, Minesweeper, Snake, Flappy bird, a text editor, calulator and more. But the one hardware requirement that stops it from running on A...

Re: Duke Nukem Atomic Edition Malfunctioning

Strange, I do not remember Duke Nukem 3D ever needing a CD, even the Atomic Edition. But either way, remember to use DOS32A to replace DOS4GW or it will probably not run into errors, other than this one. Make sure the CD is in the drive it expects it to be or try reinstalling the game. How do we use dos32a? I'm using the Top 300 Dos pack. Ahhh, it...

Re: N64 Core

Its amazing how many games works on this core already. I tried Pokemon Stadium 1 and 2, and both run, I can get into the games and such. Only errors I found were a few minor graphical ones. I was pretty sure these two games would be some of the more problematic to get to run well, because in emulators they always caused issues.

Re: Real Floppy Disk Drive for MiSTer FPGA Current Progress

It works :) I am helping test the adapter Rob is working on and it seems it might have some issues, but overall it works with most games I have tested. I made a video of what I have tested so far, but I have not uploaded it yet. I also tried copying an ADF to a real floppy and that failed, even after finding a floppy without errors on. There are se...

Re: Help Test the Newly Added CD Audio Support and CD32 Games

CHD is supported, works very well so far :)

I have been testing some more. Robocod CD32 had some CD audio issues, but I found it helped disabling fast RAM and IDE turbo speed. Still some stutters but now you can watch the intro and hear the voice and such. Tried several things for Defender of the Crown CDTV, but still no audio there.

Re: Let’s Make Amiga CD32 Support Happen (Update: It Works!)

Cheers for the heads up! zakk: if you have any expertise with main, could you add another OSD option to load an extended rom? CD32 has one I believe. Would be good to keep them separate and load correctly into mem, still allowing the A1000 roms to work correctly in the memory map. I didn't see a response to this so I thought I'd drop a message bas...

No. I sent you a PM.

Works very well :) I tried several games. Microcosm and Speedball 2 runs perfect it seems. But also CDTV games seems to run. Lemmings and Defender of the Crown. DotC sadly did not have CD audio working. I hope that can be fixed somehow.

Re: Help Test the Newly Added CD Audio Support and CD32 Games

Very nice :) Maybe open the document so others can edit it as well? I did that for PS1 games, and while its a bit chaotic what happens when you do that, it worked out pretty well I think. It does have a version history after all. I actually got some CDTV games up and running. Did not expect those to work. Lemmings CDTV and Defender of the Crown CDT...

Yes, the Idefix97 CD32 Emulator boot disk works great for me. Microcosm works, and many other games. I am slowly going through the collection. Most games seem to work fine.

Is this your video maybe?

Re: Let’s Make Amiga CD32 Support Happen (Update: It Works!)

Anyone had much luck with this? I have long tried running CDTV and CD32 games on the Minimig core. I have made several special bootdisks, but overall the best solution I have found is SimCD32, which is an official CD32 emulator as far as I know, released by Commodore on an Amiga Developers CD to help develop games for the CD32. But it does not supp...

Re: Redbook CD Audio Support?

I have been testing as well. Got several games to work. Goblins 3, Secret of Monkey Island CD version, pretty sure Settlers 2 Gold should work as well. Heroes of Might and Magic 2 ran pretty slow but CD audio worked. I tried Little Big Adventure, but I could it kept getting errors when I tried enabling music. Complained about a lack of Midi. I thin...

Re: Let’s Make Amiga CD32 Support Happen (Update: It Works!)

I have long hoped to see this happen, but yeah, apparently it will require quite a big rework of how the core is currently designed. I have focused on how to get CDTV and CD32 working through emulation (Amiga emulation on the MiSTer Minimig core) but no solution supports reading CD audio. Would require a lot of extra work if CD audio was to be read...

Re: Replacement of ao486?

A new x86 PC project could probably be great, but I also think that unless it is some highly experienced and skilled FPGA developer it could take a year or more to implement well. This core was made early on by converting some emulator code to FPGA code, and a lot of time was spent simply cleaning up that code since it meant it had a lot of junk co...

Yeah, I was pretty sure it does more than just be a modem, and the custom firmware I have heard is not really needed, but the hardware itself seems to help make it possible to open web links in some way. The custom firmware I think just helps make it more accessible.

The main bottleneck is the ARM CPU on the MiSTer is not very fast. Its similar to a Pi2 and the CPU is already used for many special features, so even freeing up one of the two cores on the MiSTer CPU was problematic. It might be possible to connect a Pi through the RAM GPIO, an alternative to the RAM GPIO would have to be found, but there would pr...

Google Maps on the C64

Google Maps on the C64... I wonder if this could run on the MiSTer? I am guessing it won't because this acts as a cartridge and needs a custom ROM as well. The MiSTer C64 core should be capable of loading that ROM, but it looks to me like the web features rely on this custom hardware and that it would not be enough to use the Internet capabilities ...

Re: Any Way to Limit 68020 Speed?

Yeah... I was looking at a video of Workbench 1.3. It was 1985 and it had features that in many ways rivaled Windows 95 and made Windows 3.11 look like a joke, and Windows 3 did not release until 1990. By the time the Amiga 1200 released though, Commodore had managed to fire all of their engineers... maybe believing that they had become too big to ...

Re: Any Way to Limit 68020 Speed?

What is the actual problem that is causing a need for a slower 020 implementation? I have not noticed any issues with it, but I have not looked much for them either. If there are some examples it would make it easier to try to debug it and figure out what actually causes it and whether its the speed or the cycle accuracy. I doubt its the speed itse...

Yeah, SD2IEC has been supported by GEOS for a while. There are other use cases as well. Mainly that quite a lot of games have gotten really good SD2IEC ports by the community, and I would argue they seem to be some of the best versions. Often you can even save directly to the SD2IEC. In some other thread someone asked why bother with SD2IEC support...

Yeah, I have long hoped to see this. One of the classic games I played a lot with my brother was The Settlers, and its just great fun to play with two mice. I have also tried asking to get two mice support for the AO486 core. Serial mouse support has already been added to the PCXT core, but it sounds like it would not be enough to add that to the c...

Akiko was responsible for controlling the CD drive in the CD32 as well as being the controller for the Keyboard and serial. The Chunky 2 planar part wasnt used much if at all. The CD32 was a commercial flop and so no one would spend the time to develop for a niche machine when you could just crank out a A1200 game Yeah, I doubt we will see it happ...

Re: Amiga CD32

I'm unclear on who Walnut Creek refers to? They created a good bit of "unlicensed" CDTV content sold in the US. I could probably learn how to read the ROMs, since I've worked a little bit with 68000 assembly, but wouldn't bother unless it somehow helped with the CD32 port. I believe that's blocked on completing the Akiko chip, which I ca...

I read the article you referenced, but the problem is the A570 (and many software solutions that came later) which don't seem to require the license to be present at all. I suppose it's possible it was only on true CDTV hardware, but it would seem more than pointless given the A570 was quite literally intended to turn an Amiga 500 into a CDTV. Sho...

I'm not aware of any copy protection whatsoever in CDTV. Its described here: https://cdtvland.com/os235/ "Waaay back in the early 1990s, when CDTV launched, Commodore decided that only registered CDTV developers who paid a licensing fee and royalties were allowed to create bootable CD-ROMs. This was “enforced” by requiring the presence of a s...

Re: Amiga CD32

I have made that CDTV 2.35 as well. I think the problem is the CDTV is based on SCSI, and the MiSTer Minimig core only has IDE. With emulation similar to the Amiga CD32 emulation it should be possible to boot at least from ISO images in some CDTV games. Some of the boot floppies for CDTV does work, but you will have to set the core to run with the ...
