Re: Lets Make Some New MIDI Hardware

I'm wondering why you would need so many physical ports? Most of my gear is daisy chained with midi thrus, with each piece of gear on a separate channel.

Re: Donkey Kong: Walking Sound Hack?

I prototyped a discrete copy of the sound section for DK as a separate PCB. I haven't had the PCB made yet, but can anyone comment on whether this could work? My idea would be that some I/O would be used to trigger the sounds, but I don't know anything about incorporating that into the core.

Re: Tapper Arcade Video Resolution

I have a Wells Gardner 27d9200 tri-sync arcade monitor in my MiSTer Cabinet. If I run Tapper at native resolution ("vga_scaler=0") out of the VGA port on the IO board, I get the following output from MiSTer, based on what my monitor reports: With "De-Interlacer Hi-Res: Off", MiSTer banner reports 511x240 15.78KHz, 59.7Hz. My mo...

Re: The State of DACs for the MiSTer and Direct Video

The Cableader branded adaptors on Amazon for around £5 work great. Tried a couple over the past few years with no issues Do you have a link to this one? Yeah sure https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08HXRQGXM Those look identical to the Rankie ones, and the whole point of the article was to show that they are not the best quality out there. I noticed the...

Re: Direct Video, Help Needed

I meant no video signal, the adapter has no power input, it's passive, like the one you can see on the guide. Mine have 5V input on the other side. Maybe you need one with power to work with MiSTer. On Amazon with an unpowered one it says: "2)Not Compatible with low voltage HDMI Devices NOT compatible with Blu-ray, PS4, Apple MacBook Pro with...

Did you plug in the 5v power to the HDMI/VGA adapter? No signal whatsoever doesn't make a lot of sense.

Since you only have a single Sync input on the BVM, you'll need to enable composite_sync=1 in mister.ini, but it seems you did that. What do you mean by a horizontal line bouncing around? That doesn't make sense to me.

Re: Unico ULM26 26" 4:3 LCD

Some info from Twitter by a user: Andrew Liu: Given how large the individual pixels are, I'm reasonably certain that the native resolution of the panel is 960p as claimed in the manual. You can measure that 2 pixels is very roughly 1mm in width, which would be very close to the physical width of the monitor (.5mm X 960 pixels = 19 in vs. the actual...

Re: Unico ULM26 26" 4:3 LCD

I saw that video, but then I saw the comments basically saying he's focused on the wrong thing (Tcon board). All someone needs to do is magnify and measure an RGB pixel or load up a calibration image to answer this, before people spend $300 on something they think they can apply CRT mask filters on. I asked that guy on twitter and he did not answer...

There is a 26" LCD being produced for $299 claiming wide resolution capability from 240p up to 1200p in 4:3. https://www.unico-usa.com/products/ulm26-unico-phoenix-series-of-arcade-crt-replacement-lcd-monitors Some people received them and are having trouble getting it to work at 1200p in Windows. I'm sure someone will make it eventually but it's been a long standing desire to avoid this sort of thing on MiSTer for various reasons. Not the least of which the massive influx of "dummy users" that would surely show up here asking for support.

Re: A better configuration solution is needed for supporting vertical HDMI displays

Vertical CRTs in arcade machines are just normal "horizontal" CRTs turned 90 degrees. So scanlines/shadowmasks etc should not have to be set separately for vertical games. If you're getting horizontal scanline effects in vertical games, I suppose maybe you just like the look of it, but it wouldn't be "accurate".

Antonio responded by email to say that the correct settings would be:

Code: Select all

player_1_controller=2341:8037.0001
player_2_controller=2341:8037.0002

But it's still not working for me. I might try a new mister installation since my ini has been carried over for a long time.

Permanent assign controller to player issues

Hello all, I'm trying to figure out how to permanently assign controllers on my MiSTer arcade machine. I'm using Antonio's JAMMA adapter (which is pretty fantastic for the price by the way). So I see that just recently permanent controller assignments are possible. Here's the relevant section of dmesg after loading the menu: [ 2.191128] usb 1-1.2: ...

By the way, your 7th ROM in your MRA excerpt has the quotes in the wrong place, that will definitely cause an XML parsing error (it's not useless, lol).

Deinterlace settings won't affect analog output, I'm sure that's only for HDMI. The 480i effect is quite pronounced on good quality CRTs in RGB and component. I'm willing to bet if you were able to convert it down to composite video you wouldn't notice it so much. So you're not actually seeing any problem, this is how the original Playstation hardw...

Hi John, great!! Glad I could help. Yes whatever way you do it you need to get 5v to the amp. I'll post a picture of my arrangement shortly. As far as skipping the amp altogether, I thought I could get away without it just by using the various neckboard controls, but in the end I concluded it was necessary for at least this model. How are you going from VGA to composite? You only showed a thick VGA cable and thin RCA cables (VGA doesn't carry audio so the red/white cables sure won't do anything)

Re: HDMI -VGA Direct Out to Arcade Monitor Help

So from your custom cable, how did you deal with sync? Did you wire H and V from your connector to H and V on the K4900? Like you said, most (not all) arcade boards use composite sync. When you set composite_sync=1 in your MiSTer.ini, you get composite sync on the H pin from the VGA connector, which you can connect to both the H and V pins on the K...

Hi! I'm also using a K4900 so I can help. I'm using a HDMI->VGA, then an Ultimarc VGA amplifier (https://www.ultimarc.com/arcade-vga-and-video/arcadevga-accessories/arcade-monitor-video-amplifier/) which gives you screw terminals. Then I got to the K4900 with RGB, composite sync and ground. In my MiSter.ini, I have it set to direct video and compos...
