Re: Request: Smaller Borders!

You probably don't want to do it for the Next core as on the Next you can render to the whole screen, including the border area. I don't recall if I've seen anything do so yet, but you certainly can.

It does - thank you. I need to build a new install because I’ve categorically proved as much as I can in fs-uae that all I need is a clean 3.1.4 and P96.

I’ve no idea what voodoo uae may be doing however.

RTG Implementation Question

Quite simply, how complete is the RTG implementation in the Minimig core of MiSTer? I am working with someone on porting some software to Amiga that uses RTG as it's render device. The ultimate target is A1200 with PiStorm32 Lite (below if it will run, of course) but while I have one of these, my friend doesn't. We do both however have MiSTer's. Th...

Re: Video randomly going off

I wish this forum sent me notifications when people reply or send me messages - I might not need to accidentally stumble over my own posts via google!! [EDIT] I've now found and changed the required settings - hopefully I'll know this time if someone replies ! Yes, I mean the BL702A. It absolutely can support 50Hz and even 15Khz, even if the specs ...

Re: Show Us Your MiSTers

Love that Xbox style case, even if you do think it's a bit round around the edges. It's still better than my woodworking skills would be :D I really should do something with mine rather than the simple top and bottom panels that I have. Ideal would be a tiny Mini ITX box but whether they're worth the price or not, it's not worth (for me) spending t...

Video randomly going off

Is anyone else seeing this? I have a Benq 1702A (I think that's what it is) 15Khz capable LCD monitor. It can look out and out lovely when it's set up right. I have it set up using an HDMI to VGA adapter. direct_video=0 (direct_video refuses to work even though I would think the screen could take the resolutions). It has a native resolution of 1280...

Re: Amiga AGA Demos

Try the two mentioned in the 1st post "DarksideAGA and CapturedDreamsAGA" While I suspect they will be better on an 060 system it wouldn't overly surprise me if they are still not 30 or 60fps smooth. I think the main take away is that the fact they drop down to choppy frame rates in places on a 99Mhz 020 is pretty much as expected. And ap...

Re: Amiga AGA Demos

I'm just watching DarkSideAGA now and it's about as good as I would expect really. I can't do a direct comparison to 68060 as my 060 machine is in storage and even if it was here it's not AGA but since getting the mister I've really not missed the 060 much aside from perhaps the FPU. I have found that a lot of the time a fast 68020 is infinitely mo...

Re: ZX Spectrum Next Port to MiSTer

Anyone know if it's possible to take a screenshot of the next core? I can't get it to work for two reasons. Firstly the command key (I'm using a Mac keyboard as I share it with two other devices) is read as brace, or something like that in the core - I assume the Win key does the same with a windows keyboard but don't have one to hand, secondly, if...

Will do - understood about the warnings. I've already changed the config option as it wouldn't work at all without it. I'll drop an email later. I'm in two minds here, Nov 2019 is a long time ago, you just sending another out really seems like a free ride that you shouldn't need to provide!

Re: MiSTerFPGA.co.uk

Right, one other query, not related to the PiHat (well, sort of not). I bought an inline power switch from MiSTerFPGA.co.uk in November 2019. I don't recall if this is before it was widely understood about the potential voltage drop issues or not. It might have been round about when it was coming to light. Last night when I tried to use the MT-32 P...

Re: MiSTerFPGA.co.uk

If you plug a USB MIDI cable into the Pi [NOT THE HAT], you can use it with a MIDI keyboard and play it, although the audio will be sent through the MiSTer unless you change the config to "pwm" (headphone jack). re: "General MIDI" as in the standard: You just want to switch it from MT-32 mode to SoundFont mode (hit the Synth bu...

Re: MiSTerFPGA.co.uk

My order arrived safely today - thank you! I'm not sure, but I think I might have been a bit hasty adding an MT-32 to this order. While it would be nice to have the Roland MT32 support for MiSTer cores, I also wanted to used it as a general midi device controlled over USB. Now I realise that this is a custom version of the MT32-pi hat specific to t...

Re: [ZXNEXT] Any recommendations for screen mode?

No,the two available options are “Original” and “Full Screen” and the display does not change, the output is the same for both. I suspect this is all down to my use of integer scaling. Scan lines just look awful without either “v-integer” or “hv-integer” scale. I guess I just need to put up with the inch or so border round the screen. It’s more pro...

[ZXNEXT] Any recommendations for screen mode?

As title. I'm running a 1440p monitor and on Minimig I get a pretty superb picture with integer scaling by using a Linux resolution of 1920x1440 and then letting MiSTer do it's thing, but I seem to be struggling with the Next core. There's either too much blank space around or the scan lines are uneven and poor which I thought the 1920x1440 resolut...

Has there really been no update to the base image for the Next in over a year? Or is there some secret place to get it from? I asked someone that I know with a real Next from the initial KS last night and he just pointed me to the same place I was going, which ultimately links through to a place to download an image for use with CSpect and the Next...

Re: Is the Atari Falcon 030 possible in MiSTer?

I know at the moment there are a bunch of things missing that would be needed for the Falcon to become a reality on the MiSTer, but I'd certainly be another that would love to see it. The ST is a machine that I've never tried. I kind of fancied it but always knew that I wouldn't be satisfied until I'd ended up at a fully tricked out Falcon. After b...

Re: ZX Spectrum Next Initial Port to MiSTer

I just reboot the MiSTer, hit F9 to go to the linux side and mount it from there. When finished I unmount it and load the core. I like the idea of the second SD card though. I wasn't aware of that so might start using a second card instead. It will also save space on my main card, not to mention ensure that everything is easily accessible when my r...

Just to close this one off, the Bad Apple demo runs just fine "out of the box" with the new ZX Next core so I guess there isn't really any need to worry over settings with the previous Spectrum core any more.

Ah, ok - thanks for the correction. I couldn't remember what it had since I sold mine. It was far, far too buggy when I owned it (Dec 2019 to approx May 2020) so I sold it on (at cost, no profit) while there was huge demand and people just couldn't buy them with a view to buying back in should the project mature to the point I wanted. Re: Better performance and 080 support?

I think you've already hit the nail on the head here - and that is availability of core developers. As in, people capable of developing such cores for the DE10-Nano. There are just not that many in the grand scheme of things and to my knowledge none of them are being paid full time to do this. So that leaves the same age old problem of it having to...

Absolutely! Thank you to everyone involved in bringing this to the MiSTer.

It changes nothing for me in terms of hardware I'm still really looking forward to getting my Next from KS2 but it's great to be able to get a head start on that and start playing around in hardware now.

Ah, but there's a lot less arguing involved on this point! Yes, you can, for sure damage a CRT if you attempt to drive it beyond it's known operating ranges. I know first-hand this to be the case as I've seen many CRTs go pop in my time :D The main thing here is that there's an electron beam whizzing around inside a vacuum tube and it can only go s...

I've never seen this particular brand of baseless fear before, best would be to delete the thread and forget about it entirely. This is sort of my point. I think a user will get fed up with stability problems if they drop too much voltage long before they damage anything. But who knows. Presumably only Terasic and they don’t give any useful info t...

Not the de10, but the Cyclone V datasheet has power specs: https://www.intel.com/content/dam/www/programmable/us/en/pdfs/literature/hb/cyclone-v/cv_51002.pdf Yeah, I found that but I don’t think they’re desperately helpful since they use regulated voltages. But if I’m reading it right (I might not be!) then the minimum voltage is negative? Yeah, I...

It would also be useful if the DE-10 Nano user manual actually had anything at all on the topic of power. But then I guess they are going to just assume you're using the power supply that it came with and no inline switch. Which I'm not because it was an EU power supply and while I could have used an adapter, that's clunky and I had a UK one suitab...

Undervolting electronics is typically bad for them though, so it is dangerous, if you consider things that damage your electronics to be a danger. Saying that it's "typically bad for them" doesn't really explain much though. I mean, I'm not trying to be awkward here, I'm just trying to get to the bottom of it. If there's an actual known ...

Must have been something else with my config stopping it from booting then which wouldn't surprise me at all. I feel rather dumb admitting this, but I almost always set "Video...
