Re: Neo Geo Pocket

Yeah I agree it’s not being entitled for someone to announce they’re working on a core like 2 years ago and have radio silence until a few months ago and be annoyed. Happy that this core is finally getting across the finish line and I heard that it will be located in the console section when all is said is done which is a good thing. Just hope Jote...

Will this nuked core have full SG-1000/SC-3000 support since it's backward compatible with the Master System? What about Game Gear support?

Re: Help Test the Newly Added CD Audio Support and CD32 Games

Hey guys. Incredible that CD32 / CDTV is starting to work. To celebrate this development, spread awareness, and to assist in testing, I've created a thread on the MiSTer Discord. Feel free to join the discussion there since there seems to be a more active audience on Discord than on the forums. Here's the link to the Discord fyi: https://discord.co...

I'm trying to enable cheats on the SNES core, and it looks like the file is there (for Super Mario World in particular), but the menu item is grayed out in the OSD. Does anyone know how I can debug? Make sure the rom file matches the name of the cheat zip folder if it doesn’t work. If the two don’t match, either rename the zip or rom file to match...

Re: Astrocade Core

Good news. I discovered the issue with the paddle controls. Apparently, the paddle has been broken for over 2 years ago. Digging into the recent versions of the core, the latest release that has paddle support for the left analog stick is Astrocade_20190927. There must have been some kind of framework update or something like that which caused the...

Re: Astrocade Core

I did have it working very early on with Daptors and real Astrocade pistol-grip controllers. However, I gave that setup to my dad. Since then, I've been trying to get my Turbotwist spinners working, and one of them does (using the X axis) but I can't assign the Y axis, so I can't get a second player going with direction AND pot. I think the input ...

Re: Astrocade Core

So I tested the Astrocade core yesterday, and was ready to do a deepdive into the library, and began with Gun Fight. The problem is that I can't get the paddle to work at all. I'm using a DualSense controller and the paddle doesn't work on either analog stick. I tried what the readme suggested by mapping the d-pad to the right analog stick but the ...

Re: So Robert Peip (FPGAzumSpass) Is Working on a New Core...

I think we've all stated our opinions. Let's get back on track to the subject at hand. What's Robert's next core?

Hints are that it's probably CD-based bc it has advanced audio and that it has homebrew games. I'm still going with Jaguar/CD, but Saturn is my dark horse.

Re: So Robert Peip (FPGAzumSpass) Is Working on a New Core...

Pretty much what @thorr said. No one's being dramatic. Let people develop what they want. One of the joys of the MiSTer project is exploring platforms I never would've considered in the past so wasted development time to some is time well spent from me and others exploring these obscure libraries. Regarding what @PistolsAtDawn stated, a great examp...

Re: So Robert Peip (FPGAzumSpass) Is Working on a New Core...

I mean one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. After the Saturn is complete some day, that’ll be the last “good” console left. I think it’s a bit weird that so many people think X console sucks bc the internet said so. Everyone’s entitled to their opinion, but completely writing off a console like the 3DO that has 300+ games as “bad” is a bit ex...

Re: So Robert Peip (FPGAzumSpass) Is Working on a New Core...

It would admittedly be very weird if it was the NGCD considering the WIP core has roughly 80% compatibility at the moment. Then again if it was that means we’d get save states and likely retroactive save states to the Neo Geo core so that’d be a big W.

Re: Is it possible to make a MiSTer frontend via a front end core?

I would like to stress, yet again, that the only people asking for this are asking for an entirely optional alternative to the current mister menu. If you're not interested in wasting time scraping game libraries and building databases, that's totally fine. No one wants to force you to do that. No one wants to replace the current OSD, or alter the...

Re: Is it possible to make a MiSTer frontend via a front end core?

Replacing the menu core with a custom version that switches to the Linux screen from the beginning and loads a certain script automatically at start, should be doable. This script can launch the front end. Upon selecting a core, it should be easy to load it via writing a command to /dev/MiSTer_cmd. This can be done in any language, including a she...

I can't imagine game.com being something you hold back on announcing because you're not sure if its possible on Mister. Or even PC-FX or NGP for that matter. Re: Is it possible to make a MiSTer frontend via a front end core?

I personally hope we keep garish front ends like EmuStation far away from Mister. Mister's UI is fine, it doesn't get in the way of the games themselves. Some people appear to love front ends more than actually playing the games. The SNES had no "beautiful front end with boxart and blurred background game images" , nor did the Megadrive,...

Re: Is it possible to make a MiSTer frontend via a front end core?

The menu OSD inside every individual core should remain completely unchanged. So yes, this is pretty much just an idea for a launcher. There is this already, have you seen it? https://github.com/nilp0inter/MiSTer_WebMenu It allows you to launch cores and games from another device in your network (say an iPad or iPhone) Yeah I followed this project...

Re: Is it possible to make a MiSTer frontend via a front end core?

Do you want a launcher or a front end? A launcher that works as an alternative to menu.rbf is doable, maybe requiring some extra features in MiSTer's firmware to control launching other cores if different to what menu.rbf already supports. Replacing the menu inside cores (an OSD), forget it. That will need recompiling every core and take up more r...

Re: Is it possible to make a MiSTer frontend via a front end core?

Mr. Encyclopedia articulated exactly what I was trying to say. Thanks for that! I use MGL files for all my console games and it's a MUCH more streamlined option to select games. MGL also allows you to easily create playlists. I have playlists for every peripheral for each console, years games released and things of that nature. It makes navigating ...

Is it possible to make a MiSTer frontend via a front end core?

I know. The dreaded "Will MiSTer ever get a front end?" question. This question isn't if MiSTer will get a front end via MiSTer main. The question is whether it's possible to make a core written in Verilog/VHDL that acted as a front-end and was written entirely in logic. If this is possible, you could hypothetically select both MGL and MR...

Re: So Robert Peip (FPGAzumSpass) Is Working on a New Core...

Robert has said multiple times that he doesn't have any interest in making arcade cores, even ones based on PSX hardware, so we can scratch those. He also mentioned that he doesn't care if another core is in development from another dev so that means that Jaguar, Neo Geo Pocket, and even Sega Saturn is in consideration, so that's worth thinking abo...

Re: Atari Games cores (late 80s/early 90s)

I love Atari. They rightfully get a lot of flack for the video game crash, but they really were the masters of the arcades before Sega took the crown by the late 80s. The more Atari games the better. I'd personally be most excited about getting more of those vintage discrete logic games. This is where gaming began, and it's fascinating to see how i...

I'm mainly talking about a distant future, not today. I'm talking about in a world with widely adopted 6G. So think 2035. Here's what you'd get with 6G: 6G (sixth-generation wireless) is the successor to 5G cellular technology. 6G networks will be able to use higher frequencies than 5G networks and provide substantially higher capacity and much low...

Would Cloud FPGA Gaming be feasible down the road?

Let me just say I have little to no knowledge regarding the complexities of cloud gaming, internet infrastructure and so on. This is simply an inquiry out of curiousity on what is theoretically possible in the long-term future (10-20 years from now). I recently bought an Xbox Series S and I'm pretty impressed with the capabilities of XCloud even th...

hey, I tried playing the game Dirty Chameleon and I can't get it controlling right. The Chameleon can't move to the right, can't use it's tongue attack.
