Re: Unico ULM26 26" 4:3 LCD

There are several overlapping interests here. This monitor is great to have for a drop in arcade replacement. So it is not all bad. But they would have been better served giving the native panel resolution rather than what resolutions it can accept. That lack of transparency sours customers. Has anyone measured yet what the latency is on these pane...

Re: USB vs Jamma versatility: In some scenarios, is Jamma even worth it??

A device such as MiSTercade is converting JAMMA to USB. There is no JAMMA type direct wire (SNAC) device I am aware of. Latency is already so low, in devices like MiSTercade it is doubtful any human could tell a difference between direct wire (SNAC) or USB. SNAC’s purpose really is for peripherals that are extremely sensitive to timing like light g...

Re: LED Animation Controller for MiSTer

Have had a successful test with Ultimarc PacDrive and Ultimarc Ultimate I/O. So far have tested with Arcade cores.

Any additional testers are welcome. PM me so a beta build can be provided.

Re: LED Animation Controller for MiSTer

And automatic profile switching at least for arcade cores is working. Will need some testers with supported LED devices if anyone is still interested in this.

Re: LED Animation Controller for MiSTer

I was able to compile LED Spicer on the most recent MiSTer build. Automatic profile switching (needed for cores to automatically switch lighting profiles) is currently not working. If I can get ahold of MeduZaPat! and he has some time, I will see if we can get that aspect working. If anyone has a supported LED device and wants to play around with i...

Re: Filtering Cores

The script looks nice, but I specifically want to filter cores suitable for my arcade cabinets. So I need multiple criteria, such as joystick restrictor, buttons, resolution, and orientation. This script seems to only make symlinks based on single criteria (unless I am missing something). I would guess nothing like this currently exists?

Re: LED Animation Controller for MiSTer

MeduZaPat! is the one with the skills. I have only tested on MiSTer and gotten it to compile. Please check out his project LED Spicer to see if it is compact with your LED board.

I plan to try and compile it again to verify it still works.

Filtering Cores

Is there any filtering available to filter cores by buttons/controls/joystick restrictor (eg 4-way)? It would be nice to only pull the arcade cores available that are suitable for the arcade cabinet it is installed on.

Re: Donkey Kong: Walking Sound Hack?

I'm wondering if this could be solved with an add-on like an RPi running just the audio section of MAME. I've wondered that too: something like mt32-pi, but for analogue audio. It might be an overengineered solution, though—at least for just this game. I think I'd be happy with better and more varied samples. Having 6–8 variations of the walking s...

FPAA

I know there are analog audio circuits that are difficult to simulate in FPGA. It turns out there are FPAAs available for this purpose. This is one I ran into today:

https://zrna.org/shop

If it can interface with a Pi, it can interface with the DE10-Nano. Not sure how much it could benefit the scene but thought I would share.

Re: High pitch explosions for Xevious and Galaga

If examining a real Galaga PCB would benefit a developer, I have a dead board I would donate to get this right. No repairs have been attempted, so it likely is fixable in the right hands.

This seems like the best solution. There are high score kits available for most of these popular arcade platforms. But I say best coming from someone who has no idea what this would entail for core modifications.

Re: Super Pacman

I do not. The board is a spare for my Super Pacman cocktail which is dedicated (not JAMMA standard). The pinout is well documented, and maybe someone has an adapter to contribute for it to get the “jotego” treatment. :)

Super Pacman

Is anyone working on Super Pacman? I see similar hardware like Dig Dug II is supported. If anyone is interested in taking up the challenge, I have a spare PCB I would donate to the cause.

Re: LED Animation Controller for MiSTer

MeduZaPaT wrote a listener to automatically switch profiles based on what core is loaded, so #2 is figured out. For #1, it was planned to release a tar.gz with the compiled binaries, and install/uninstall scripts you simply drop into your Scripts folder, and execute the appropriate script from SSH or the MiSTer interface to make it easy for users. ...

Re: LED Animation Controller for MiSTer

To piggyback off MeduZaPaT, we were able to successfully build the application in a Docker environment and transfer it to the DE-10 Nano and run it in the Linux OS. From the command line, all operations appear to be working properly. Two main questions remain: 1) Is there a preferred way to distribute Linux binaries/libraries for MiSTer? 2) Another...
