I wanted to try the PWM option over Direct Video

The direct video is 24bit RGB color - no need for PWM.

PWM is disabled for scaled output in all builds after 13/02/2024. Direct video doesn't go through the VGA port so it is not affected by PWM.

That is what I get for only looking at the latest post in threads - found the updates in the first post :D

Re: PWM on 18-bit DAC to get 24-bit Color

Yes, when using the scaler, PWM causes jitter. The scaler clock isn't fast enough to do PWM so it uses the video clock to do the modulation. But since the scaler and video clocks are different they don't align and end up jittering. I don't have a good solution for this yet, maybe PWM should just be disabled for the scaler output. Did you find a so...

Re: PWM on 18-bit DAC to get 24-bit Color

I tested the last version for the N64. I have two setups that I can switch between. It works without problems on my 15KHz CRT TV. When I use the analog output with a VGA monitor in higher resolutions, the PWM still gets applied (and color banding still seems to be reduced), but the image shows interference. It looks similar to dot crawl on composit...

Re: VGA to SCART Using Analog IO 6.1

Ah, sorry, I did not see it in the first post. Mine is from the same store, and I agree they do high quality work.

The reason I was asking about the resistor arrays is that they are responsible for creating the different analog signal strengths.

No, on the analog board. Also, please answer where you got that board from.

If that error message is correct, you got a Dell 2007wfpb (the "w" is for "wide", indicating a 16:9 panel)

Then use video_mode=1680,1050,60

Re: AmigaVision (MegaAGS) 2023.12.25 Released with Updated Game Configurations

Hi there, thanks as ever for this fundamental release! One question: I'm using MiSTer+AmigaVision on my VGA Crt 31khz monitor that has a maximum resolution of 1280 x 1024 / 60Hz (Non-Interlace). I've noticed that the recommended settings for mister.ini outputs a "squashed" image on VGA, so I've set video_mode_ntsc=4 video_mode_pal=4 (128...

Re: Question about multiple displays with multiple ini files.

Analog and hdmi outputs can be driven independently (default setup on MiSTer is unfiltered analog output) - you can keep your setup for the 4k TV unchanged. All you need to check is the sync setup for the analog output (you need composite sync). Only a few cores create analog output that might not be shown properly on the Sony (486 PC, some other c...

There was some rework on the C64 core in the past few days. The commit messages sound like they might relate to the bug you observed (for example you can now select the VIC-II variant). You could try the latest unstable build and see if anything changed.

Possibly to do with cync on green/purple? In my opinion, you should not use sync on green for the CM14. But I could be wrong. There is a similar problem reported here: https://misterfpga.org/viewtopic.php?t=5032 The user managed to get rid of the tint by setting vga_sog=1 ; 1 - enable sync on green (needs analog I/O board v6.0 or newer). Re: Using MiSTer Multisystem With Amstrad CM14 Monitor

Two images next to each other on a 15KHz monitor can be caused by a 31KHz signal. Please check in the OSD if the "Scandoubler FX" option is set to something other than "None". Also, a short googling gave no clear answer if the CM14 is able to display anything besides 50Hz. Please try any core that allows switching to PAL output ...

From the Stardot link above I read this:

Note that the AKF-17 doesn't support a Vsync - it expects a composite sync input on pin7!

Does that mean that composite_sync needs to be set to 1? I've tried setting that, but there with no obvious change.

Yes it needs this setting, and the correct pins need to be connected.

With regards pinouts, I confess they wouldn't make much sense to me, so I'm sort of reliant on pre-made cables. The diagrams show which pin carries a specific signal, you need them both for MiSTer analog (from the wiki) and your monitor. Use a multimeter to confirm that blue is connected to blue, green is connected to green, red is connected to re...

Re: Acorn 28-AKF17 CRT Advice Sought

Hi,

the monitor is a 15KHz RGB(analog) monitor, so it will work with MiSTer. You need to make sure that your adapters connect the right pins. You can find pinouts here: https://stardot.org.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=10956

Also, you want

Code: Select all

vga_mode=rgb

in your ini file.

I just run the core on my VGA CRT. Xain'd runs fine with my default setup that uses the vga_scaler function with vscale_mode=4 and a video_mode conforming to my monitor specifications. It seems that the scandoubler function has not been included in the core. Maybe it is because of the non-standard timings of that board, I cannot say for sure. If yo...

No. As mentioned in another thread (https://misterfpga.org/viewtopic.php?p=72233#p72233) having different sizes and positions of analog output is expected for FPGA recreations of retro hardware. Please refer to the post for some of the options. I personally have set up my 15KHz monitor to be centered and properly scaled for NTSC console cores. The ...

This is not a problem, but an expected result for running FPGA cores with consumer TVs. The cores are developed by analysing the original hardware and try to stay as close to the original system timings as possible. As home consoles were built with consumer TVs in mind, the analog output of the FPGA cores usually works fine with consumer TVs from t...
