Re: Groovy_MiSTer Core

This is an amazing idea, kudos for getting such a complex thing working at all! My setup is an arcade cab with a mister, and groovymame on a pc with a 15khz-capable VGA card. Input/audio/vga are switched between PC/Mister by a KVM, using a hidden microswitch in the coin eject mechanism. All the hardware for this is squeezed into the cab itself, alo...

Re: Guncon2 Sync with Hantarex Polo 2

It is right - worked first time, except if I connect both sync+gnd to the guncon, I get no aim.

Connect just the sync, and aim works. Must be some difference between UISB GND and the polo's GND.
Either way I have it working!

Re: GunCon2 - hitting F10 does nothing

Found the issue - wiring. The front-panel usb ports on my arcade cab are a 2-port mini hub. Plugging into that does not cause the guncon2 to show up when I do "lsusb -t" in terminal. Plugging direct to the mister's hub works, and the F10 menu can be used from OSD. It is only accessible when a guncon2 is detected. |__ Port 3: Dev 6, If 0, ...

Re: Where Do You Map P2 Start?

If your 2 stick setup works anything like mine, then try just hitting spacebar on keyboard to skip mapping for p2 start.

On my setup, that works great, mister just figures it all out and p2 start works as you'd expect.

Re: Guncon2 Sync with Hantarex Polo 2

Looking at the monitor I might have found a possible answer. On the polo's input pins, PIN1 is marked "HS or Comp" PIN2 is "VS" PIN3 is GND PIN4 Red PIN5 Green PIN6 Blue So assuming the guncon wants composite sync, I could join HV+ wires and send them to PIN1, PIN2 is then not connected. I could then use composite sync to the gu...

Guncon2 Sync with Hantarex Polo 2

How do I get the right sync to my guncon2's when using a hantarex polo2 CRT. The CRT has RGBHV pins. Which signal needs to be presented to the phono connector for the guncon to sync without messing up the CRT display? Is it only H-sync, V-sync, or both combined to make composite-sync? And if I combine them, won't that mess up the polo2's sync as it...

Re: Power Options for Portable MiSTer?

The usb C ports on that battery support USB-PD protocol (Power-Delivery?). This protocol allows the psu to negotiate the correct supply voltage with the connected device. Thats why you see 5/9/12 volts as options on that port, if the device asks for 12v, that's what it'll get. If you plug a "dumb" device that doesn't support USB-PD into t...

Re: I-PAC2 MiSTer FPGA

The ipac will work fine for arcade cores without jamma_vid/pid settings. The problems start when you use a computer core (like amiga/c64/spectrum). Those cores include keyboard support, and will detect your ipac as a keyboard instead of a joystick. The Mister menu will still allow you to map U/D/L/R/Fire controls just fine for these cores, but they...

Re: Question About Dual Output

Hi netbeui - yep dual output is completely normal, my mister has been plugged in that way for around 18 months with no issue at all. Obviously CRT is best for playing high-speed games, but there are plenty of cores where that's not possible, or it involves a lot of hacking to get a less-than-good result. AO486, Amiga-with-RTG, Mac plus, Atari ST wi...

Re: [New version!] SD Card Migration Utility for MiSTer: An easy way to migrate to a new SD card, no PC required

I'm in the middle of running the migration now. The script so far is excellent, it has clear colourful menus, it autodetects the new card inserted over USB, has the usual "don't erase the wrong thing" warnings. I really can't fault it. In my case the migration will be 220GB, so yes it'll be running a long time, but it doesn't need my help...

Re: I-PAC Arcade Controls on Minimig

Found the solution. https://misterfpga.org/viewtopic.php?t=448 There's special support for jpan/ipac controls in mister. If you specify the jamma_vid and jamma_pid to be the USB identity of your jpac/ipac, then it's treated as a joystick, not a keyboard, and minimig joystick inputs just work. More testing to do, couldn't get player2 to work immedia...

Yep I mapped the buttons to the joysticks, just as any other core.
I've tested a lot of other arcade/console cores with the sticks, they all work fine. Just minimig has this behaviour in my testing so far.

Re: I-PAC Arcade Controls on Minimig

The subject here isn't amiga games control control systems, more the minimig core not interpreting the keypresses from the i-pac joysticks and routing them as joystick events within the core itself, instead they remain keypresses. If that re-routing happened, then the amiga game would just see joystick inputs as normal. Sure there might be side-eff...

turrican II, and galaxy force have been my test games. Both enter the game fine, turrican starts with any keypress and galaxy force uses mouse for the menus. I-PAC Arcade Controls on Minimig

I'm trying to get minimig games playable on an arcade cab with i-pac controls. The i-pac is setup to provide keypresses over USB, using the standard MAME mapping. This works fine for arcade and console cores, but for some reason minimig refuses to accept the joystick inputs. Mapping buttons works fine in the MiSTer UI, but the joysicks and buttons ...

Re: Lack of a Flip Option on Some Vertical Games for CRT Users

I think I just answered my own question a bit. vsync_adjust=0 fixes it. See config below. Of course now we have all-the-latency, and scaling artefacts and whatnot, but my arcade cab can now play TATE games. Before this, the cab had to lie on the floor, while you kneel down to play it. Not very practical. I'll keep tweaking video modes and see if I ...

Latency aside. I've been trying to rotate TATE games thru CRT, using 1943kai as a test. The settings below do work, but only for 1 second before the display loses sync completely. I see the ROM load, I see the title screen, then nothing. Tried on 14" samsung TV and hantarex polo2 arcade CRT. Does anyone know why this happens? [1943kai] video_m...

Sounds stupid, but check the sdcard is inserted properly. If you've not got a case on the mister it's easy to eject it by accident, and a mister with no sd does very little.

Re: MiSTer, Original Hardware, Lag, Some Thoughts!

Use fast usb-polling (also known as 1000hz polling).
Without that, input lag will be horrible. Really it should be enabled as standard IMO.

Less important is a wired USB controller, it helps a bit, along with using "game mode" on your TV's input.

I have an i-pac joystick-to-keypress adaptor running 2 arcade sticks, with the default mame mapping. https://www.arcadeworlduk.com/pages/IPAC-2-Code-Table.html Everything works great except P2's SW5, which is letter "i" in the mame map. Re: What cores work with the Guncon 3 ?

When guncon support was still in the alpha stages, I snapped up a cheap pair of guncon2's from ebay before the rush starts and the prices go up.

So far I've not tried them, but now guncon support is in main, it would be good to know at least one well-supported core/rom for testing purposes.
