MiSTer Nuked-MD MegaDrive Core

Sorg's release notes state: "This is a replica of real hardware (unlike functionally similar Genesis core)" I thought the very definition of replicating a console in FPGA was that the actual logic and chips on the motherboard of the console are replicated accurately? Is the original Genesis core not a functional replica of a Genesis? Are ...

Should note that SuperFX FastROM hacks are now working as of official Aug 3 build.

Re: Sega Saturn Core in Development

This may have been asked before, and I apologize if it has. Does anyone know why the analog video output of this core is shifted to the left? No other cores seem to do this with analog out. Digital video seems fine. I'm using the latest single-SDRAM core 08.06.2023, but it's been doing this since the very early revisions. Is this a known issue or s...

My guess is that it will be soon, it just hasn't been decided yet how it will be handled, as it is basically a "secondary" SNES core. Need to make sure that all the beneficial commits to the SNES core also make it into the SGB core.

Re: Stunt Race FX Issues

This thread got me reminding that not too long ago, I did a playthrough of Yoshi's Island and, having played that game a bazillion times before, I felt like portions where Yoshi was walking on the rotating map after completing a world felt strangely slower than normal. I was especially thrown off by the sounds of his footsteps not playing at the t...

Re: Super Game Boy SNES core with MSU

Found a bug. The core doesn't seem to be able to load .gb roms from within a zip. I have all my roms in 1 giant .zip, which hasn't been a problem before with any other core.

Re: Super Game Boy SNES core with MSU

Thinking more about this - I wonder if it would be possible to have the SGB core load into the FPGA only when a .GB rom is selected from within the regular SNES core, and have the SGB core otherwise hidden. This way it would be transparent to the end user, and still "feel" like they are using the regular SNES core, even though in the back...

Re: Super Game Boy SNES core with MSU

I think the commits to Main_MiSTer should remain in the main repo for that, but I agree that the SGB core should be a branch of SNES_MiSTer, and only use commits from SNES_MiSTer that would benefit the SGB core?

Re: MSU-1

The most recent public release build from yesterday seems to be working nearly perfectly. I haven't noticed any music stopping (like it did in previous builds). Love that this is available now. All we need now is savestates in the SNES core and I basically will have no reason to ever use my SD2SNES again! (That, and maybe some kinda of MSU-1 equiva...

Same here! With the addition of MSU-1 (once it's working properly), the SNES core will officially have more capability than the SD2SNES! (Which is still missing SPC7110 support)

Re: MSU-1

There's an unstable-nightly build out now with MSU support (also requires unstable-nightly for MiSTer). Anyone gotten it to work? I tried three different MSU audio hacks and none of them played the new audio, only the base sound effects. Just tried it as well myself. I'm having the same problem you are. I can hear sound effects, sometimes original...

Re: MSU-1

So I was looking around on github, and it does seem like @dentnz is still working on MSU-1 support. If you look at this branch:

https://github.com/dentnz/SNES_MiSTer/c ... gain_debug

He has commits to it as recently as March 6, 2022!

Don't give up @dentnz!

Re: MSU-1

My favourite version is actually the Sega Saturn version because of the Sega Saturn Controller. FYI Retro-Bit make a mean Sega Saturn USB controller which places near the top of the input latency league table. Comes in 2.4GHz and 3-meter wired USB varieties, with the choice of a number of colours. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=retrobit+saturn&ref...

Honestly - I'd still be pretty happy if only the audio side of MSU-1 was working. The Video/FMV side of it is less important, IMO.

Re: MSU-1

So, is the work on MSU-1 currently at a standstill or has there been any recent progress? I'm guessing due to the lack of responses in this thread, that it is the former :( Really hoping to see this officially implemented. I understand it's an "unofficial" thing (i.e it did not exist in SNES' hayday), but since it's supported on FXPAK/SD2...
