Re: Donkey Kong graphic bug and save wont work
Hallo - sounds like the Donkey Kong issue could be a corrupted hiscore save. If you have a "/media/fat/config/nvram/Donkey Kong (US, Set 1).nvm" try deleting it and that might resolve the issue. With regards to DK Jr, are you saying that Autosave Hiscores is turned on in the menu, but if you open the menu after registering a hiscore it do...

Re: inputtest - values for comparison?
The Button Tester mode in the input test core is largely just an experiment at the moment - to have an accurate test you need to take the human out of the equation, and any display lag, as FoxbatStargazer mentioned above.

Re: Porter
There is some documentation on the MRA format here: https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/Main_MiSTer/wiki/Arcade-Roms-and-MRA-files I'll be the first to admit it is not straightforward to understand though! Moon Cresta runs on the Galaxian core, and that would probably need some minor modifications at the very least for Portman to work properly. Usually...

Re: Preserving Arcade Core High Scores
I hadn't realised (or rather considered) that only the repo owner gets notified of issues by default - so Sorg will have got it but he probably gets a LOT!
I've set most of the repos I've touched to notify me now, but the safest way would be to @JimmyStones me in the issue if it's highscore related anyway, then I'll definitely hear about it

I have a Kofi link on my Github page, but good point, it's in my sig now
The pull request for the Donkey Kong fix is in and waiting for approval, hopefully Sorg will catch it today...

Re: Preserving Arcade Core High Scores
Hey jimmystones, Donkey Kong (US Set 1) auto save works but in the menu when setting autosave to ON,the 'anaolog Video V-Pos' gets set to 4. if autosave is turned back off the 'anaolog Video V-Pos' is set back to 0. attempting to set the 'anaolog Video V-Pos' to 0 turns OFF autosave. some other random weirdness inbetween those two settings. auto s...

Re: MiSTer Input Tester core
This is making (a bit) more sense... the 8bitdo controllers must be re-using HID/VID from the Xbox 360 for some reason - it follows my experience of some weird issues I've had before as well.

Re: MiSTer Input Tester core
I only had an 8bitdo M30 and a wired Xbox 360 controller to test on, and they seem to use the same hardware IDs so not actually surprising they have the same behaviour. However they both work fine for me, so I'm a bit confused now!

MiSTer Input Tester core
esmith has reported the following with the latest input tester: The new input tester seems to have X & Y swapped for analog1 & analog2 I'm using an 8bitdo SN30Pro with an 8bitdo USB dongle. My controls work as expected in any game I program them for but not in the Input Tester Analog Mode. In the new tester, when I move analog1 on my contro...

Re: Why are CPS1, CPS1.5, JOTEGO & CPS2 missing from the Wiki?
Jotego's cores are separate for many valid reasons, including the fact that he maintains support for other devices than MiSTer (including the original MiST board).
There is however nothing stopping an interested party adding a page to the wiki and maintaining a list of 'unofficial' cores that are available

Re: Preserving Arcade Core High Scores
Unfortunately yes, the updater doesn't know to remove out of date files so the only way to make sure you have a good set is to delete them all and then get the updater to do a full re-sync.

Re: Preserving Arcade Core High Scores
Scramble isn't saving high scores now. I now have two versions on my list, the original Scramble and Scramble Stern version 1. Both have automatic saving switched on, but neither save their scores. Hmm, ok. 2 questions then: - Have you got the latest Main update (or at least 20210825)? - If you save manually using the old Save Settings method do t...

Re: Preserving Arcade Core High Scores
I'm doing autosave on Robotron next, so will take a look. I did the last update to fix the vertical centering on the core, so I probably screwed it up in the process!!

Re: Preserving Arcade Core High Scores
Frenzy, Beserk and other Williams games, as well as the various MCR cores are next up on my list - I had to write a new version of the autosave code as they operate differently (the original hardware had NVRAM based saves) and I'm just testing it on Defender at the moment. Won't be long!

Galaga alternatives should now be up to date with highscore autosave support (in the https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/MRA-Alternatives_MiSTer repository)

Re: Preserving Arcade Core High Scores
I agree.. I don't personally know why there is an alternatives repo, but it is what it is! So I've submitted PRs to move the alts into the alts repo, along with updating and fixing the hiscore config. Once those are approved I'll drop another message here so interested parties can update

Re: Preserving Arcade Core High Scores
... I was looking in the alternatives repo, not in the Galaga one specifically, as I thought they had all moved out to there!!
Interestingly, I don't have those ones on my MiSTer, I only have the set from the alternatives repo.. Did you grab them manually or via scripts?

Re: Preserving Arcade Core High Scores
I don't understand why it is saving .nvms for those alts, the <nvram> tag in the MRA is supposed to be blank, so it shouldn't even try!?
Can you attach your MRA for the set 1 fast shoot one?

Re: Preserving Arcade Core High Scores
In the Galaga core, if I run one of the (two) fast shoot alternative cores and I turn AutoSave ON, the next time the core loads the sound is scrambled/distorted. I can delete the NVRAM for the cores, but obviously then the high score is wiped out too. I havent tried this on other cores, but can someone confirm this issue on their setup please Than...

Re: Preserving Arcade Core High Scores
Yep, when the 'Autosave Hiscores' option is On, opening the OSD will save your scores, but it'll only do it if they have changed - you'll see a saving message if so.

Re: Why is rom loading so slow on MiSTer?
There are some cores which have a faster loading system which uses the shared DDRAM to speed up the process, but as it needs extra logic it's only really in the cores that have big ROMs that would take a really long time to load. GBA and CPS2 I think both use the technique - some CPS2 ROMs were getting on for 30 seconds to load before the fast load...

Re: Cannot update to latest release (20210831)
The highscores should be in /media/fat/config/nvram/ - it's possible for them to get detached if the name of the .mra file for the game changes (which did happen to a bunch of cores recently), but if you rename the .nvm to the same name as the .mra they should come back.

Hmm, I'll be honest I dont have a spinner myself - anyone around who does that can confirm whether any manual mapping is usually needed?
