Re: Newly created Mr. Spinner does nothing in MiSTer

Have you tried the Input Test core (in Utilities)? The advanced mode should at least tell you what the controller is showing up as in MiSTer, if anything.

Re: Preserving Arcade Core High Scores

Unfortunately Vulgus is a Jotego core, so it's out of my scope really - I believe he does intend to tackle it eventually, but in a more unified all-at-once way, which is possible due to the way all his code is structured and linked, as opposed to the one by one approach that is necessary on the offical MiSTer repo. If there is anything else in the ...

Re: Preserving Arcade Core High Scores

The hiscore module is already built in to the cores that support, so you don't need to download anything else. https://github.com/JimmyStones/Hiscores_MiSTer/wiki/Supported-games In any of the games listed in the above URL you just need to select 'Save Settings' in the OSD (menu) to save your scores. I'm working on a new version at the moment which...

Re: Autosave

Yep, as I said it's not an impossible problem, just that someone would need to spend their time developing it. It would mean changes to the main framework on the Linux side plus changes, rebuilds and testing on every single core that supports autosave... Certainly not an insignificant amount of effort!

Re: Autosave

Don't get me wrong, I would love it to just autosave and work perfectly :P One issue with the backup concept is you only find out that a save is corrupted when it reloads, and by the time you find that out it'll probably have autosaved over the good backup!! As with all engineering problems I'm sure there is a way to get a robust system but that wo...

Re: Autosave

Wear on the SD is not the only concern - because a user could reset/power off the MiSTer at any time there is always the risk of corruption if writes are happening behind the scenes. With the OSD triggered method that is far less likely to occur (although obviously not impossible)

Yep, manual save by hitting 'Save Settings' in the OSD is already available for the cores listed here:

Once I've updated all the existing supported cores to auto I'll see if I can add a few more

I'll warn you, I have 33 cores to update so it's gonna take a little while!

Also, to be clear, this is specifically autosave when you open the OSD - just like those upstart console cores have had for ages ;)

Re: Add Spinner Control to Tron.. Please.. :-)

Have you tried the Input Tester core to see what inputs your spinner shows up against?

From the code Tron looks like it supports what the MiSTer framework thinks is a spinner whereas centipede is just using the mouse inputs.

Re: Please add Flip Option - Centipede, Lady Bug & Gorf

Not me, but BlackWine has done a few now I think. I have a vague memory of hearing that JaguarLV was working on the millpede/centipede stuff though.

It's not always easy or possible to do (without adding a framebuffer and the dreaded lag that is :P), depends a lot on the architecture of the board.

Re: 4 way/8 way selection on inputs?

There are some cores with 'one way' stick code - but it's not consistent I'm afraid, as it's a per core implementation. Atari Tetris has quite an in-depth method with a lot of options on how it emulates a 4 way stick that you can change with the 'Diagonal' option in the OSD. Lady Bug just has a basic one that just has a preferred direction - e.g. a...

Re: Dottori-Kun core

Well, here's the title screen with all graphics filled in. The raster bars are supposed to change offscreen, in a vertical column, but here they are going diagonally down and to the right (with a line added for help). This shows that the CPU is running too slowly compared to the video timing. Perhaps that's some inaccuracy in the Z80 core? That di...

Any idea what would make it say RAM BAD? That seems like a poor start :D

I'm a bit confused what the problem might be so far because Dottori-Man Jr. looks fine (the colour scrolling on the title page and the CRT test page) and I presumed that would use the same technique and therefore have the same issue!

Re: Two arcade joysticks on one control panel

I was referencing invzims suggestion regarding far reaching changes :) There are a lot of unknowns for me still around the handling of multiple different devices, as you say - and I don't have a lot of them at the moment to even test it! I agree that some kind of mode where devices can all be detected and mix and match assigned to the common types ...

Re: Two arcade joysticks on one control panel

I agree there is a lot of scope for improvement in general, but managing expectations is important :D The current system I think probably works well for a good majority of the MiSTer audience, and frankly far reaching changes like separating the input system from the Main mister framework are unlikely to be accepted, especially if is only of intere...

Re: Dottori-Kun core

Looking back at the code I ended up not using the composite sync (the MiSTer arcade video module just takes the individual h/v sync signals) so I guess it must just be the slightly out of range frequencies. I'll have to look through some of the other cores that do it, as I'm still an FPGA noob and my simplistic view tells me I'd have to either chan...

Hi, and thanks JimmyStones and Furrtek for bringing the Dottori-Kun core to MiSTer. Can I make some requests / bug reports? I run my MiSTer in 15khz RGB, and the core doesn't make my CRT display happy: it shuts off / degausses itself! Is there any way to lock the core to 60Hz or change the sync pulses to something more standard? (I hear the VSync ...

Re: Preserving Arcade Core High Scores

PSA to those who care deeply about their high-scores! The recent MRA updates have resulted in name changes for a few titles - for example "Crush Roller" is now "Crush Roller (Set 2)". Because high score dumps are based on the MRA name, this will result in your high score file in /media/fat/config/nvram/ becoming orphaned - you ...

As I understand it Jotego is working with theypsilon to integrate this as an optional feature into the update_all script - defaulting to off. As such it is not going to affect a non-Patreon, unless they specifically turn it on themselves. It's just there to make the whole beta process simpler for his patrons (me included to be clear). @taz07rx I do...

Alanswx, me and possibly others will work through the cores and update them - probably just those listed in the issue first.

No need to raise individual issues I dont think, frankly it won't speed up the process any :D

Also I'm on holiday ;)
