It seems like these guys found a solution to the latency issue in DDR3 on another FPGA board, but it's DDR3 memory as well.

https://www.ultrafp64.com/

Look the logs.

According to Robert, the difference/issue on the MiSTer/De10-nano is that the DDR3 is shared between FPGA and linux on the HPS-side.

Re: Getting ready to build my first MISTer - A few Qs

Enjoy! It’s a great little piece of retro gaming hardware that can be easily upgraded as you go, due to it’s modular nature, so there’s no FOMO in terms of hardware. E.g. if you end up with a finer taste for MIDI music in the cores that support it, you can consider a Raspberry for MT32 emulation if the onboard MUNT isn’t enough for you.

Some builds can’t sufficiently power the USB board via the DE10-nano, so maybe consider a power splitter cable: e.g. https://misterfpga.co.uk/product/mister ... ter-cable/

Re: The “Cycle Accurate” Conundrum and Is There a List of Cores That Are?

Cycle accurate is not really an important benchmark in and of itself. Compatibility, feature-completeness and experience fidelity of the whole setup are much more relevant to focus on. E.g. while minimig core is close to cycle accurate for the most common of the amiga chipsets, the MiSTer framework doesn’t support all of the io features of the orig...

It’s supported on MiST, and Jotego was looking into it last year, so fingers crossed

You may also need a Y-splitter to power the USB-hub directly from the PSU: https://misterfpga.co.uk/product/mister-power-supply-splitter-cable/ (while USB hubs can be powered from the de10, some/most boards cannot support more than a few devices this way) Other than that, I don’t have much to add - you have a lot to look forward to! Re: N64 Core Possibility? (Update! Robert Is Working On This Core!)

There is about zero chance a board at the DE-10's price point will support N64 in decades. The clocks just aren't there. Decades is an absurdly hyperbolic take. The FPGA industry is growing by leaps and bounds because of machine learning. To think that Moore’s Law applies to everything but FPGAs is beyond silly. Robert Piep mentioned it may be jus...

Re: Release DE10 Nano Overclock Kernel BETA

Its still unproven. The arm cores have no thermal throttle. Its a very dangerous thing to put into main and should be left as a user replace option. The de10 nano uses a particularly heat-tolerant SoC, specced to run safely at up to 125 degrees C, so any conceivable temperature increase is harmless to the hardware - the worst thing that could happ...

Re: MiSTer Multisystem Laptop - LT prototype

A Pi Zero 2 draws around 0.5 A when run headless under max load, and draws very little power when idle, so power/battery life is not that big of an issue when using this Pi. That said, I don’t think a peripheral SBC should be a priority for this sort of AIO setup. Those who cannot live without midi can use the onboard ARM core for fluidsynth/munt o...

Re: MiSTer, Original Hardware, Lag, Some Thoughts!

I would guess, based on my own kids of similar ages, that the 8bitdo controller is less handy in small hands than the old NES controllers. Which controller are you using? I doubt input lag is responsible - the original NES had a good deal of input lag, you can even find frame-by-frame comparisons of Mario Bros on CRT on youtube with MiSTer having l...

MiST/TC64 supports dual mouse like the original amiga, so it support multiplayer in games such as Lemmings and The Settlers, unlike MiSTer.

Edit: I believe brobinson himself did the implementation on the TC64.

Your SDRAM is broken according to memtest, so what you describe is to be expected (all cores that don’t need SDRAM are working, those that need it don’t work). Can you post a picture of your setup, especially a close-up picture of your SDRAM module. Maybe someone can point out what the error is based on that information (e.g. a bad soldering/transi...

If we’re playing devil’s advocate here, I’ll add that if scanline-free monitors had been introduced to us back in 1985, we would all have been hyped up about how we could finally enjoy crisp images without having to ignore the forced horizontal bars splitting the pixels apart.

Support for dual mouse inputs on the Amiga (SNES supported it too, but that’s a very niche case). Lemmings and Settlers/Serf City need it for multiplayer (which MiSTer currently doesn’t support), while a few other games just supported it as an alternative to using a joystick (e.g. Hired Guns, Battle Squadron). Doesn’t have to be two physical mice, ...

Just out of curiosity: can you compile a core with a higher clock than 100Mhz using this approach? Obviously it would be even more prone to instability, but why is 100Mhz and not 110Mhz the ceiling? Just a nice round number? From what I understand its limited by the speed of the FPGA. Its also not really 100mhz, its just how the CPU sees itself, b...
