Re: Anyone have Descent running in DOS?
I tried the registered version of Descent but had no luck with DOS32A. It launches, but whenever I press the second button of my Gamepad the game crashes back to DOS.

Re: ao486 wish-list
I came across something I would like to add as a wish. support for partitions larger than 8gb... or support for more than 2 VHD. The largest partitions you can use with AO486 seems to be 8064 MB or maybe 8040MB, somewhere in that area at least. Partitions larger than that will get errors. I tried making a 32gb VHD and I can use it, even with more ...

Re: Breakthrough for the ao486 core announced - Cache
Virtua Fighter 2 was a Win95 game, surprisingly enough it doesn't seem to need a 3D-Card to work, but at least a P90. It used MMX.

Re: CD-ROM under DOS/Windows
Daemon Tools still randomly hangs for me a lot *shrugs* But yes, when it works, it works. :) I have found that if you have mounted some ISO in Daemon Tools and then reboot Windows, you should remember to unmount it, or it will freeze / crash when you try to open This Computer or otherwise see the virtual drive. But after unmounting, you can mount ...

Leaving opimisation to QEMM worked fine for me, with Expanded Memory I have 635K free memory.

Re: Joystick on X-Wing DOS Floppy - anyone?
The latest update fixes the Joystick in X-Wing and Tie Fighter.
Joystick detection is now properly triggered and works. It is still broken in Tie Fighter CD. Here the Joystick is detected but doesn't respond to any button.

Re: CD-ROM under DOS/Windows
In Windows 95 it is possible to get Daemon Tools running, if you need Red Book Audio try this. You have to install USB Drivers and the Windows 2.0 installer first, but then everything works.

You have to map X to one of your controller buttons, as it is also Fire 2 (Magic) ingame. You can map the key to your controller from the core menu.

Re: PC98 core
Since the original IBM PC used 8088, legacy IO uses consecutive addresses, but since PC-98 used 8086 from the beginning, 8bit IO was directly connected to the 16bit data bus from the beginning. As a result, there are completely different peripherals connected to even and odd addresses. For example, an interrupt controller is connected to IO addres...

It's not the change to 4 button Gravis, it stopped working before. It works in the last official core, but once the cache was implemented the Joystick stopped working.

Same with Star Wars TIE Fighter Collector's CD-ROM. TIE Fighter Collector's CD-ROM works for me, even in Hi-Res (the joystick is not recognised, but I didn't manage to get joystick support working in X-Wing or TIE Fighter in any version with any of the Cache versions). Tie Fighter Colllector's CD 94/95 and X Wing Collector's CD 94/95 works for me....

We already know a few things: - Current performance hovers right around the 486SX/33 mark overall - There isn't likely to be a HUGE performance improvement in any respect beyond this, so even if performance was _doubled_ somehow from today, you're still looking at 486SX/66 levels of performance This depends heavily on the game, the Doom timedemo i...

After I had Win95 up and running, I backed this vhd up on my main computer, just because of this. Win95 had the tendency to corrupt itself up to a state where it wouldn't boot any more.

Re: Breakthrough for the ao486 core announced - Cache
Was anyone able to get Joystick support working in Win95. I always get "not connected" in the control panel. I tried the 2 axis 2 buttons Joystick that - as far as I recall - work without drivers and the Gravis Gamepad Pro that needs drivers. I installed the Xperience 4.5 drivers from Gravis but had no luck. For anybody trying it, I foun...
