iniside update.ini was this setting -> False. It should true, I guess.

#false for not downloading new cores at all,
#a string value, i.e. "NewCores", for downloading new cores in the "NewCores" subdirectory.
DOWNLOAD_NEW_CORES="True"

I have deleted update_all.last_successful_run and script is still reporting

but it wont trigger download.

Do I have to always manually download updated rbfs?
Can I trigger redownload?

No you don't need keyboard connected, just map Menu to a gamepad/joystick button combination in the main settings. So then you can access menu with this button combination, and do reset from there. Mouse/trackball support was recently added by Shane Lynch. I fixed the color change issue and have submitted a pull request. There is still a glitch at the top and bottom of the screen. If you want to test it, here are two RBF files. One using the previous branch and the new branch with updated sys. Unfortunately, the new sys has broken the audio....
