It would be nice to run GroovyMame on a Raspberry Pi next to Mister.

If you like small things, get a mini pc. Raspberry Pi won't cut it.

I wonder about this though. The Raspberry PI 5 single core performance appears to be roughly double the Intel Core Duo 2 E8400 setup I've been running Groovymame on for the last decade.

Re: Sega Saturn Core in Development

I think it's all but confirmed now, but just to chime in .... upgrading my single 128MB ram from 2.5 to 3.0 (sourced from Mister Addons) made a ton of Saturn core issues go away. Nights now has music ... that was the first thing I tested :) maybe a faulty ram? Mine is 2.5 and Nights runs with music. It was discovered with memtest was created that ...

I think you need at least version 2.5 of the 128mb RAM and preferably version 2.9.

2019 predates all those revisions of RAM.

I wish they were making a Sega Saturn FPGA instead since I don't think we'll see a functional Mister Saturn Core anytime soon.(maybe never) But I can see why they went with N64.it's a much more popular system. it's not for me,because most of N64's better games are remastered and available on better systems. They could even go for a Saturn+Dreamcas...

Old Arcade games use a unique board per game, leading to these games having 1 core just for themselves. 1 core for 22 games isn't too absurd There's also a lot of arcade boards that will never get ported because the game was bad and there's no interest. Virtual Boy will get done at some point because it Nintendo from their best period. But it's go...

Re: The “Cycle Accurate” Conundrum and Is There a List of Cores That Are?

The PSX core could be more accurate by implementing the CD hardware faithfully and improving the timings on future FPGA hardware that doesn't have the same limitations as the DE-10 Nano. That's sure to happen at some point in the future, it should be remembered how young the PSX core is at this point when comparing it to PC emulators.

Re: The “Cycle Accurate” Conundrum and Is There a List of Cores That Are?

Fair enough. I notice the aurhor of MCL86 cleverly mentions the CPU is "cycle accurate but nof cycle exact" But then I wonder how many emulators are cycle exact for the same CPU (if any). The truth often comes in shades of gray though. Would it be fair to say that cycle accuracy is a spectrum? With that metric, are FPGA cores i...

Re: The “Cycle Accurate” Conundrum and Is There a List of Cores That Are?

The PCXT core is cycle accurate in its 4.77 MHz , 7.16 MHz, and 9.54 MHz modes, but is no longer cycle accurate at maximum speed (AT like performance). Not fully. Multiplication and division are not cycle accurate. Their behaviour is documented, but the creator of the CPU module went for ease of implementation rather than accuracy. See https://mis...

We already have it for the C64. HW exists to connect a real 1541

Support for a real 1541 is one thing because its controller has its own CPU and talks over a slow interface. Getting the C64 core to talk to a PC floppy drive would involve implementing that controller in the core and doing similar things that are being done with the Amiga support.

That's how users learn though and eventually they'll stop messing with things they don't understand. We can't just dumb down the entire project and not implement features that would benefit nearly everyone because a few people won't understand it.

It's a bigger problem for arcade cores because the scan frequency can be way out of spec for TVs and RGB monitors. The console and computer cores really shouldn't have as many issues.

PS2 emulation is still not perfect after all these years, which is kind of crazy to think about. Xbox emulation is still pretty bad, so the only one that is really good is Dolphin, in my opinion. I can't imagine the amount of wo...

The Y/C cores mostly improve over the original implementation. The philosophy in general for video on this project is to improve it over the original. It's what most of us want here.

I tried a small adaptor from amazon that you plug the vga cable from the i/o board into, then use an svideo cable from that to the monitor. I made the changes to the ini but i dont get any picture at all, no menu etc nothing...
