Re: Real floppy drive

Is this application will work ? The NoClick program works by patching the system so that instead of stepping the heads between two tracks to update the diskchange signal, it attempts to step beyond the legal range, to track -1. Most floppy drives will silently ignore that request, but still update ...

Re: Possibility of doubling audio channels?

The games are coded to use the total available channels on the YM chip (or whatever chip is used for each console) so would require not only a complete rework of the core, but the games would need to be patched too.

I don't think it's likely.

Re: Real floppy drive

Also there's a big collectors market for old Amiga games. Most collectors will have an Amiga anyway but being able to use MiSTer with them too can't be a bad thing for anyone.

Excellent progress by the way, can't believe how quickly it's coming together!

Awesome progress :)

Can't wait to try it out!

I can help add menu options to switch drives between real and virtual floppies if you like.

Re: Real floppy drive

I still don't like the direct connection to the user I/O but I can use an extension so looks fine to me :)

Very tidy as well, is that an Altium render?

*EDIT* How are you thinking about handling power for the floppy?

Re: Real floppy drive

I think if you still have USB3 connectors on each board, it gives you the option to either use a PCB with vertical mount connectors to connect them (if your case and drive are a set height) or a cable.

However you think though, I'll just be happy it exists :)

Re: Real floppy drive

I'd recommend 74HCT, but I probably don't need to say that :) I do have a problem with mounting PCBs directly to the user port as I think it's a recipe for disaster, but I think I'm in the minority there. I guess a simple USB3 extension would work for those of us who don't want to risk damaging thei...

Amazing work, this also explains some of the issues I had with motor control so good to know. Will this be open source or will you be selling hardware? Re: New MiSTer Composite adapter - mAVster_MD2

I've had several requests to restock so will get some more boards on order. Have you thought about having a cable to go from the VGA port directly to the GPIO port, negating the need for the I/O board? I think it's a neat idea having an easy solution to use the MiSTer with old TVs without RGB suppor...

Re: Issue with Syndicate Mega CD FMV

I'd expect PAL copies of these games wouldn't have had skippy FMV but I also don't know how much the accurate PAL clock will help. I'll report back later. I can confirm with the PAL clock, stuff like the "Sega" jingle on Sonic 1 is much lower in pitch and a bit slower, which instantly sounded right ...

I hadn't realised that. Makes sense why that works then.

I was mislead by pin 9 on MiSTer being 5v (when jumpered as such) which I've always used.

Re: Let's talk about Scart

I also had to do a lot of searching to find this information. I was surprised a lot of people recommend using a MiST SCART cable which does NOT have the same pinout on the VGA connector. So how come it works perfectly with every core I've tested, apart from the ST? I don't really know because MiST ...

Re: Let's talk about Scart

I'm a Trinitron user and I use 75ohm resistors to GND as otherwise the colours are totally blown out. Other than that I use a 180ohm resistor from 5v to blanking as per any other scart cable I have. This cable works perfectly with any other CRT or LCD I've plugged it into as well. I also had to do a...

Re: Issue with Syndicate Mega CD FMV

Upon further testing, I've also noticed that the declared internal resolution for Mega CD PAL appears to be wrong (set to the same as NTSC), so I'm not sure the Mega CD core was fully built for PAL...it looks like it tries to run PAL titles with NTSC framing and internal clocks but PAL refresh. Non...

I don't know about 99% of users, at least for this core.

A poll would be handy to gauge this.

Re: Direct Video Output

As I've said before, I'm not using direct video, I'm using the VGA port on the I/O board. Direct video requires each core to support it and I can't test that as I have no HDMI to VGA adapter. If it isn't working but other cores are, I'd assume direct video either isn't implemented in the core or the...

Re: Change core clock from 59.18 hz to 60 hz

Just to add to this, I'm not sure it will help you. 59.18 isn't an unusual frequency for 15khz capable displays so I'd be more inclined to believe you have other issues.

Do any other cores work on this display? What is it?

Is it really even appropriate for SGB functionality to be in the Game Boy core long-term? I know it's typical of Game Boy emulators to have it, but wouldn't it be be more accurate for the SGB functionality to be moved to the SNES core instead? After all, the Super Game Boy is really an add-on for t...

I did put a Tweet out but it's just occurred to me I didn't email everyone, there were numerous issues with the fabricator (one of them being a national holiday) so I've only just taken delivery of the PCBs.

I'm currently building them and expect to start shipping Friday.
