M.2 Slot

With M.2 drives being so cheap these days. In fact cheaper in bigger sizes than either micro SD cards or normal SSDs. Why has no one designed a board with a M.2 slot? I know Mister is never going to use any of the available bandwidth but that's not the point. It's all about price, convenience and keeping a small footprint without any cable mess and...

Re: So Robert Peip (FPGAzumSpass) Is Working on a New Core...

Damn, makes me wonder how great the N64 could have been if it had been a CD-ROM system, the PlayStation brand could have died in that same generation. Well, I guess this leaves us with 3 possible candidates then ;) Biggest problems of the N64 are it's very limited texture cache and super slow unified memory architecture. Nintendo being Nintendo th...

Re: So Robert Peip (FPGAzumSpass) Is Working on a New Core...

in my old DS core you could either use a mouse or the analog stick for the touch screen. At least for the games i tried, one of them always worked good: for games that only need it occasionally, analog stick is ok for games that need it all the time(with touchpen), mouse works good PS5 pad with touchpad could also be fine, but i never tried that. ...

OK, that sounds like a clue. Using VGChartz, I listed all of the consoles with 1+ millions sales. I removed all of the ones that already have a core or a core in development, I removed every consoles after the 5th gen and every handhelds with power above 5th gen consoles (PSP, 3DS, PSV). Results: 3DO, CDi, N-Gage, NDS or the N64 https://docs.googl...

I think we need a Mister II for a better retro PC, N64, all pre-2000s arcades and maybe even Dreamcast FPGA. With current Mister everything we get extra now is just a cherry on top.

I really don't know why you guys have so much troubles with the HLG-HDR colors. It's 8bit HDR and fully backward compatible with SDR. This is how it should look (with no special settings to colors in the Mister.ini) on a LG C9. Using "game mode" with "Dynamic Tone Mapping" enabled. Saturation level is up to your own preferences...

Hopefully the Mister can do Namco System 11 and 12 which both are basically PS1+ and Namco System 22 and Super System 22. Would be nice to play the arcade versions of Tekken 3 and Time Crisis 1.

Also hoping for a miracle in Sega Model 1. Virtua Fighter 1 arcade heaven.

People using LG C9-C2 and G9-G2. You can force SDR color tone in the hidden menu by highlighting picture mode and using code 1113111. Fixes any color errors. Just be sure to use proper neutral picture settings so Game mode with the following settings: OLED Light: 100 Contrast: 100 H/V Sharpness: 0 Color: 50 Tint: 0 Color gamut: Auto White balance: ...

Re: Sega Saturn Core as Useful Information to Repair Real Saturn Consoles?

How about the quality of the Pico PSU? I don’t what to sound negative but aftermarket PSUs are usually pretty bad and never outperform the original PSU. MODE also produces more heat than other ODEs so heat might also be the problem.

Re: Advanced cores for MiSTer future FPGA hardware

Problem with more advanced consoles is their dramatic increase in complexity. Just compare transistor counts of PS1 vs PS2 vs PS3. The PS1 is about 2 million transistors while the PS2 is 53.5 million and the PS3 is about 550 million. The jump from something like a N64 to a Dreamcast is huge. Going from a PS1 to a N64 is already pretty big. I think ...

Seeing how PGXP is not possible on the MiSTer PSX core. Hopefully once FPGAzumSpass has taken some rest he’ll manage to force true 24-bit color mode. Really the best possible enhancement feature if you ask me. Allowing to play games without color banding with dithering turned off. Would be awesome if there’s enough room left on the FPGA. With PSX and the upcoming Saturn core both having multiple output resolution modes. How about per console per resolution settings? Something similar to the PS1 Digital or Mega SG. We can already do individual NTSC and PAL settings. So why not individual resolution settings?

Use the auto region setting set to header and the right priority for you. In my case I prefer NTSC games so have it set to US>JP>EU. Should fix your problems.

Is there a possibility to force a higher pixel clock than the current max 200MHz pixel clock? I want to force 1536x1080 @120Hz but currently it’s maxed out doing 1280x1080 @120Hz for integer 4x scaling of 384x224 and 384x240 games. Perhaps adding a small heatsink will allowing for additional overclocking.

Problem is even when you get the right settings you either get motion blur compared to a CRT or you get a much dimmer picture. On my LG CX OLED with High panel brightness and OLED motion Pro set to high I can get an almost 1:1 look with my Sony PVM L4. No blur, perfect motion. However enabling OLED motion Pro dims the picture so much it's a lot les...

Re: CRT TV vs LCD Gaming PC Monitor

Why not connect both? CRT through the I/O board and the LCD through HDMI. Best solution would be a CRT monitor as it can do 31KHz and by forcing 320x240 120Hz can 240p with proper scanlines. Not to mention CRTs are vastly superior in motion to LCDs.

While the fake scanlines are fun and all, they're nothing like a real CRT.

CRT is superior to LCD and Plasma. Only technology superior is OLED. Newer models will be even better with higher brigtness allowing stacking of BFI and scanlines. Choosing between CRT and LCD for retro gaming sh...
