Re: ZX Spectrum Next Initial Port to MiSTer
It is also possible to connect to the vhd (over the network) using Samba. On MacOS it is mounted as a new filesystem. Then it is as easy and "drag-n-drop" to move files across. I'm assuming the same would apply to Linux desktop and Windows. But DON'T do this while the core is running! Accessing the .VHD from two different systems at the ...

Nah, you should be good to go with that lot. Just don't forget to run update.sh once you've got the MiSTer booted up and connected to your network, then grab a copy of update_all.sh to do all the other nice things.

Re: MiSTerFPGA.co.uk
Does someone know if there are some extra delays at the moment when sending goods from UK to European Union? It seems that my order left UK 11.03.2021 but after that nothing has happened on tracking. Sadly yes Stupid stupid stupid brexit and our excuse for a government's inept attempt at implementing the customs changes means that goods moving in ...

Re: Recommended WiFi Dongles
To be honest, wifi on linux has *always* been a hit and miss affair due to the manufacturers keeping the majority of the firmware and drivers closed-source. Some work better than others and testing and experimentation is key. FWIW, mine has been rock solid since I put the rtl8192cu chipset device in. It's never going to be as stable or fast as a wi...

Re: Recommended WiFi Dongles
Well, I got a predictable response to my request to include iperf3 to actually test network throughout: https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/Linux_Image_creator_MiSTer/issues/10 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I've been looking at what the linux subsystem does today, and noted that one of the two ARM cores is permanently running at 100% due to the MiSTer process. Apparently ...

Re: Recommended WiFi Dongles
I've added a suggestion to what I *think* is the correct GitHub repo for iperf3 to be added. FWIW, I spent the best part of a day trying to figure out to cross-compile a static ARM binary on x86 ubuntu with no joy. It's really not my area of expertise. Hopefully this will help. Also, moved my MiSTer today (it was sat with the TV screen between it a...

Re: Recommended WiFi Dongles
The best/simplest way I found was to ssh into the mister and wget a file from a web server on your LAN if you can. If you don't have a server at home you can test against, you can try grabbing a file from a server on the internet, but that will be constrained by the speed of your internet connection, which may be slower than the connection speed yo...

Re: Recommended WiFi Dongles
Well, after all that farting about yesterday, I found another USB Wifi dongle in a bits box. This one's an rtl8192cu and really *does* work out of the box using a the specific driver for the hardware (also 'rtl8192cu'). I've peaked at ~40Mb/s throughput with this which is far better than what I was getting with the 8192eu and the generic rtl8xxxu d...

Re: Wishlist of Cores You Would Like to See in the Future
I'd love to see the m68k support extended to '030 with MMU and FPU, as that would unlock access to many more classic OSes (although this has been somewhat contentious with the minimig maintainers in the past, I believe). Console-wise, I'd love to see Dreamcast, but appreciate that's highly unlikely due to its complexity. I'll hold out hope for the ...

Re: Wishlist of Cores You Would Like to See in the Future
Mmmmm VAX would be nice, though trying to get the OS could be problematic .. I think you have to register for it.. Sadly the Hobbyist Programme no longer provides VMS and Layered Product licenses for VAX architecture. HP sold OpenVMS to another company (VSI, VMS Software Inc.) who are only maintaining the AXP and Itanium versions. The software ins...

Re: Recommended WiFi Dongles
Well, mixed results, but ultimately failure. I'm going to go through it here, though, in the hope that it helps others. Following the guidance here I set up an ubuntu VM on my Mac, installed the build essentials, checked out the Linux_Kernel_MiSTer and RTL8192EU driver sources from GitHub and started trying to prepare the kernel source. I immediate...

Re: Recommended WiFi Dongles
After reading on the wiki that the TP-LINK TL-WN823N V2 works "out of the box" (with the addition of a firmware blob) I purchased one. It does indeed work, but throughput is pitiful. I'm only getting about 8-10Mb/s on it (from a server in my house and AP very close by). It looks like the linux subsystem on the Mister is using some generic...
