The point is to replicate original hardware. Press the next game button and it switches to the cart in the next slot. MAME can load up multiple slots.

Re: Is MiSTer FPGA Overkill For My Needs?

Pi4 has composite built in. This is a huge benefit over the mister. It's also full of crap retro distros that will riddle your mind with configuring. Less money. Pi4 is awesome for all the other stuff it can do, but the input lag is insane compared to Mister. It has runahead and some other aids for lag though. Also, you won't be connecting your Pi...

I have an mvs. I'm waiting for a jamma hat to be available.

I've done 161-in-1 with shitty menu. Switched to PC and jpac. Spent years programming a front end layout. Pc components died. Built another PC. Sick of PC and programming never ending. Waiting to make the jump to mister and be done with it.

Stereo sound with a neogeo mvs

I have a neo geo mvs that I will be converting to use a mister and possibly a mistercade if I can get a slot on an order. The mistercade only outputs mono. I just recieved my JNX big red adapter. I noticed it has a stereo input via 4-pin JST connector. I was thinking, perhaps I can use standoffs and plexiglass to mount a small amplifier, mistercade...

If Dreamcast and up wouldn't really benefit from FPGA emulation, would a hypothetical "MiSTer but for more advanced consoles" really need to be FPGA-based? it’s called a PC. you can build them in small form factor these days and they have the advantage of the emulators running on them having often had decades of performance tuning and de...

Re: Is MiSTer FPGA Overkill For My Needs?

I'd think emulators work better on a PC than a RPi, though. 100%. MAME made a huge video change in 0.106u2. this version and newer is too much for a pi. I have compiled newer mame versions on the pi, and they are unusable. You should stick to advmame which uses 0.106. In the end, I wasn't happy with the pi. My kids kept getting frustrated with the...

Even if you don't like fighting games... those millisecs do matter on games like Megaman, Donkey Kong, to some degree Sonic and other platformers. Re: Is MiSTer FPGA Overkill For My Needs?

Are there any bare metal images for pi emulation? When I used retropie it used to do my head in how long it took linux and the front end to load, even on a fast SD card. With MiSTer I can turn it on and it boots in literally a couple of seconds, and I can just switch it off when I'm done without any safe shutdown scripts or other malarky. The pi m...

Interesting idea! We've noticed that SAM doesn't seem as random as we'd like. We're definitely considering how to address this. I'll add this to the list of ideas! Try using $RANDOM and and select the game or core within the list instead of shuf. I can provide an example or a pr, but have no way of testing actual script on hardware. https://github...

Would it be possible to have it keep a record of what games it's cycled though? My thinking is that if it did this, you could have the script cycle through all the user's titles before repeating them again. Interesting idea! Re: MiSTer core without make files?

Quartus installing completely into a single directory is odd for linux. It's also really useful when you need to keep multiple versions around. (At a minimum I need 13.1 for Cyclone III and 17 for Cyclone V, 10LP and Max10 - and on the rare occasions I want to build for Cyclone II, 13.0sp1 too.) Not really. A bin could be placed in path like /usr/...

My kids filled my root disk with video games. I added a 1TB m.2 ssd. Wow it is small, and cheap! Cloned with gparted. Re: Small screenshots of each game in Main Menu

BYOAC forums assembled the all killer no filler list, best arcade games. I converted it to a tag list for attractmode front end. There is no reason to have thousands of games to choose from on the end device. Same applies to the MiSTer. It's not hard to have images in a standard format. Title screen or in game screenshot would be appropriate. Could...
