Re: Nintendo 64 Input Situation

Guys, I’ve got a fairly cheap N64 USB controller which works fine apart from the Start button which despite defining in the core, it brings up the MiSTer menu each time I press it as if I’m pressing F12 on my keyboard. Any ideas on how to fix this? X-Input vs D-Input. For console emulation, I like to use controllers that are identical or very simi...

Re: N64 Core

When it went mainline, I had two N64 choices distinguished by date on the menu. I just hit the console and deleted the older rbf that I installed manually. The current N64 on mine is 20240322 and it works great.

Wow, there's a game I haven't seen in years! I played that a ton on the Amiga back in the day. Luckily, Amigavision makes it easy to enjoy again!

Re: Small Linux distros (one is 1.44MB)

Kolibri OS isn't Linux based at all. An entire GUI distro written in assembly is awesome, however. I believe the kernel itself still supports the needed FPU emulation, but it's doubtful you will find a modern Linux distro that still compiles the rest of the software to work on a 486SX. Nobody is going to QC software for hardware that no one will ev...

Re: AmigaVision/MegaAGS 2023.04.05 Released!

Originally bought my MiSTer for Neo Geo and Amiga games. Great to see the Amiga is so well supported with this project!

As someone who used an A500 and then A1200 as my primary computer back in the day, using the MiSTer is so much less aggravating compared to the real hardware when I just feel the need for a bit of retro-computer reminiscing.

Re: Longterm ExFAT Reliability

MiSTer does have exfat utilities installed. Log in and you can scan the SD card even when mounted: /root# fsck.exfat /dev/mmcblk0p1 exfatprogs version : 1.0.4 /dev/mmcblk0p1: clean. directories 2994, files 43687 You going to have to umount the SD card for repairs, however. Perhaps someone can chime-in if that's possible while the MiSTer is running.

Re: I’m Stuck? A Majority of Newer Arcade Cores Won’t Recognize Inputs

... 2. The 8BitDo controllers need to be started in X-Input mode to work properly with MiSTer in most cases. For the 8BitDo Pro 2 Wired edition this means holding the B button while you plug it in (frustratingly this is an undocumented feature, and it's annoying to have to do every single time, it's 8BitDo's fault for this stupid design) ... This ...

+1 on Chadmaster. I use his CHD sets for all MiSTer cores that support CD's and they always work great!

Re: 8BitDo Pro 2 Wired Controller Button Issue

Malor, we are talking about the 8BitDo Pro 2 Wired controller, which is a completely different model from the wireless version. Good you got it working. The only problem I see with this controller and the MiSTer is that rumble is completely broken with the current firmware which would be nice to have with the PSX core. I brought this to the attenti...

Re: Original PS1 Controllers No Rumble

Yes, but does it work correctly? In Metal Gear Solid, Option / Vibration Test section does the controller vibrate continuously for as long as the weak or strong setting is selected? I have two PS3 Dualshock clone controllers, one marked "Sony" that's made to deceive and another a "wired" only controller with no markings. I poppe...

Re: Original PS1 Controllers No Rumble

With a fake PS3 dualshock controller connected to a Linux desktop, it seems to behave differently with bluetooth (half rumble) versus USB (no rumble) connection. The direct USB connection provides no rumble to the MiSTer either. Maybe a genuine controller performs differently. For me, a Xbox 360 wired controller and a wired 8bitdo SN30pro perform a...

Re: No Dual Shock Rumble with 8bitdo Pro Wired?

I tried a 8BitDo SN30pro wired controller in Metal Gear Solid, Option / Vibration Test section and that controller vibrates continuously for as long as the weak or strong setting is selected. So that controller works perfectly! Back to the 8bitdo Pro wired, Ultimate Software reported a firmware update (v1.03 beta7) for that controller and that firm...

Re: No Dual Shock Rumble with 8bitdo Pro Wired?

Pressing "Y" not "B" when connecting the 8bitdo Pro wired joypad is the key! The rumble feature is verified working in Metal Gear Solid in the Options section. That's a good way of checking. Is yours doing what mine is on that test and vibrating once but not continuously? That's not right. Yes, it vibrates once in either high o...

Re: No Dual Shock Rumble with 8bitdo Pro Wired?

The wired version of the controller doesn't have that switch.

What's the best way to test the rumble feature in MiSTer? The input test program doesn't seem to have any way to initiate rumble.

Yeah, but the "holding down the "B" button while plugging it in" feature is NOT in the manual. Is it described in the non-English section?

Getting a 8bitdo Pro 2 Wired (not Xbox) Controller Working

Want your brand new 8bitdo Pro 2 Wired to work with the MiSTer? Hold down the "B" button while plugging it in. *** UPDATE 5/17/22 *** Instead of the "B" button, hold down the "Y" button while plugging it in to enable the controller's rumble feature for the PSX core. Long story: At the beginning of the month, I picked-u...

Glad to see an update! I originally bought my MiSTer for Amiga and NeoGeo support so I'm glad to see an update for this package. The NES, Genesis, PC-Engine and PSX cores are just gravy. :D

I had an A500 and then A1200 back in the day so it's great to easily enjoy old favorites and all the other games I never seen.

Yup, that's too fast.

It's working for me on a freshly update_all'ed MiSTer with the MegaAGS20210313 pack and whatever screen line mods they recommend. As plain-jane as you can get.

Re: Turbo Button Mapping?

Yes, I use the controller shown above in my other post with the TurboGrafx-16 core and sometimes the NES core. What you describe in pad setup seems normal. When you attach an input device, the Mister expects a certain amount of features in a controller. If the controller doesn't have those features, like analog sticks or shoulder buttons, just pres...

A little late in answering the original question, but if you want to experience the full TurboGrafx experience on the MiSTer it's hard to beat the HORI Turbografx-16 Mini controller. It's sized identically to the original controller and it also features properly working Turbo Switches with two speeds. hori_controller_small.jpg When gaming, I like t...
