How do game saves work? Are they in each individual VHD? What if I wanted to backup the game saves of all installed games?

Save game files are stored on each individual VHD

That is a shame and, for me personally, is a rather big disadvantage. I would want to periodically backup all saves rather than doing it individually.

It's not an exact step-by-step explaining every tiny bit of the process, but it should be enough to get you started: https://misterfpga.org/viewtopic.php?p=84617#p84617 The main things you might have to figure out are how to mount VHDs in Windows ( https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/storage/disk-management/manage-virtual-hard-disks#a...

Is there a "dummies guide" for adding other titles? I was all for setting up my own DOS collection but it's turned out to be more work than I had envisaged so thought I would try 0mhz instead. It's just missing a few titles I would like to include.

Re: Config.sys Memory Issue on Startup

Make a throwaway copy of your VHD and strip down the CONFIG.SYS. Start up from it and run MEMMAKER and follow the steps. That'll change your CONFIG.SYS for you, hence the throwaway VHD. Note the line that loads EMM386.EXE. Copy that down and into the VHD that has your menu system. That'll probably fix it in a reasonably optimized way. Thanks. I en...

Edit: nevermind. There was a setting in the script that must have been enabled by default the last time I ran it on the old sd card but in this newer script it is disabled by default. Just enabled it and running script again now.

Config.sys Memory Issue on Startup

I wonder if anyone can help me with this. I don't want to use any of these presetup collections like Flynnsbit or 0mhz. I would much prefer to setup DOS myself and just then install the handful of games I want on it. I had been following the guide to do this on https://www.jamesfmackenzie.com/2021/02/06/mister-ao486-core-part-1-dos-quick-start/ Thi...

The Neverending Story Keyboard Issue

I wanted to look at some games I used to play on my Spectrum 128k. I remember the one I got came bundled with 128k versions of Daley Thompson's Decathlon and The Neverending Story so I thought I would start with them. I've just tried The Neverending Story 128k on the Spectrum core and the keyboard input is really slow. In order for all key presses ...

Re: HD Support for WB 2.04 and 1.3.3?

I've followed all the steps for this. I've successfully patched the 1.3 rom, put it on the Mister and booted the A500 system with the A590 Setup disk. The "execute PrepHD drive 0" command runs successfully but the "FORMAT DRIVE DH0:.........." command gives an error stating the DH0 is not a dos disk. I also tried just running Fo...

How do I add new Amiga configs?

I mainly bought my Mister FPGA for Amiga emulation. Up till now I have only used it with AmigaVision but I am now looking to get a simpler setup that is more in line with how I used my Amiga A500 back in the day. I notice that with installing AmigaVision I have Amiga and Amiga500 menu entries on the Mister so that got me thinking there must be a wa...

For me, it is an excellent space saving alternative to getting an arcade stick. As I get more used to it I am finding myself using it with Amiga and other cores rather than swapping over to my ArcadeR joystick. When Amazon UK get it in stock I think I may pick up a spare too. Interesting, so up=jump platformers work pretty well? That's one of the ...

Re: What Is the Minimum Number of Buttons Needed for Most Arcade Cores?

My wireless 8BitDo Neo Geo controller shipped today (much earlier than I expected). It has a microswitch thumb stick and ten buttons in total (including start and select). Should be a great and compact solution for arcade games: https://aliexpress.com/item/1005005795535578.html I already made some comments on that pad in the topic on it but though...

It has the same lame deadzone as the mini pad right ? It's not stiff and immediately clicky like the first model I heard ? Feels like an analogue engaging a microswitch from what I could see Why should it? It is the same as the OG NeoGeo CD Controller. Nothing to do with the Mini ones. Maybe I didn't express correctly, this 8bitdo has too much tra...

Re: New 8bitdo Official NeoGeo Controller

Mine arrived earlier this morning. Only tried it with Neo Geo and Amiga. My initial impressions are it is very good but not necessarily great. Bear in mind I never owned a Neo Geo so I have no previous experience with this controller. I find it a little small for my hands. For me it could have done with being a little chunkier but I may get used to...

Re: What Is the Minimum Number of Buttons Needed for Most Arcade Cores?

I have quite enjoyed my RetroRadionics “ArcadeR” joystick Got mine last week. Only the 2 button version as I decided to use that for Amiga and other computer cores and in the end also order the 8bitdo Neogeo pad for Arcade. Decided on that as the arcade sticks were just too big. I came to the conclusion that was better than my original plan of one...

Re: Image keeps going blank for 1-2 seconds on Dell G2724D

My Samsung S80A is listed as a 60hz monitor, but it displays 75hz from Wonderswan and 70hz from DOS just fine (it doesn't seem to like 50hz signals though). So you might not need to get a high-refresh monitor for cores like those. Yes the Mister will fallback to 60hz mode for those cores on a 60hz monitor. However, I was buying a new monitor anywa...

Re: Image keeps going blank for 1-2 seconds on Dell G2724D

Thanks I'll try that. A bit annoying as I only bought a high refresh monitor as I had read some cores work at 75hz. If I had known that was only at lower resolutions I would have saved some money and bought a 60hz monitor. I have no other use for a high refresh monitor. Live and learn.

The monitor definitely supports 1920x1440 though.

Image keeps going blank for 1-2 seconds on Dell G2724D

I know there is a similar topic to this but I didn't want to derail that conversation especially as that is an issue with a CRT and mine is with a LCD monitor. I just got a Dell G2724D monitor. I was going to send it back as it had no headphone socket but it was too nice a monitor so decided at the last minute to keep it. However, I wish I had test...

This one should be better for your setup:

That has no amp in it so surely that can also only lower the line level? Therefore no better than just adjusting in the Mister menu?

I think I have come to the conclusion that I should return this monitor and get one with a headphone jack.

In that case you will have to rely on the volume control in the Mister menu.

Does that work with the optical out? I thought optical was just a line level output?

Hi,

You can either use a HDMI audio extractor or a Toslink audio DAC.

Thanks. That dac (2nd link) seems to be usb powered. Would the Mister be able to power it via usb? That would be ideal. I have a Meanwell 4A (I think) power supply if that is relevant.

Cheap Option for Headphone Audio?

I have the digital IO board rather than the analog one (in hindsight I wouldn't have bothered buying an IO board at all). Previously I was using headphones via the headphone jack on my monitor with the HDMI audio. However, I have replaced my old monitor with a new one and one small oversight was the new one doesn't have a headphone jack. So I now h...

Re: Best monitor resolution?

Why do you want to get rid of your 4k monitor? 4K (2160p) is a 3x integer upscale of 720p, which is 3x 240p. It's basically perfect for MiSTer. If you're getting degraded preformance on your pc, lower the resolution to 1080p. I'm getting rid of it because it is broken. The screen has gone in all 4 corners. I'm not going to get it repaired as I hav...

Re: Best monitor resolution?

Thanks for both replies. I agree with 1920x1200 being very nice, assuming the other monitor qualities are equal. At 1080p you have to rely on cropping to hit 5x. For 1440p you are practically limited to 1920x1440 so its going to be a lot of black space, even though it would be a bit sharper. With freesync support on mister now I would also keep an ...
