Re: Unable to get a MT32 Pi hat working
I had this same problem, I had to solder pins to my I/O board because my generic board did not come with the pins populated. The good news is once I did that my MT-32 Pi worked great. I soldered pins into the ten holes closest to the user port (labeled P7) as well as one more pin in the empty hole (labled P9) near the GPIO header which apparently i...

Re: Place your virtual bets, PS1 or Saturn, which core will get released 1st?
Hmmm, does srg320 have a weirdly antagonistic relationship with his overseas counterpart who is pushing their 32X core instead? If that's the case, then when the 32X, Saturn, and Playstation cores all drop within 12 months of each other people will be confused about which one to get, until word of mouth about the Playstation core completely crushes...

Re: eXoFlynn Top 300 DOS Pack Updates and Support
I just got it working when I tried placing the cd folder in /media/fat/ao486 and not /media/fat/games/AO486. Think I read somewhere that I should put the 300 pack in under the games/AO486 directory but I might be wrong. Perhaps the imgset command defaults to /media/fat/ao486. You could also try and see if that solves your issue too. Yes! This work...

Re: eXoFlynn Top 300 DOS Pack Updates and Support
Hmmm, is it possible that the recent switch from /media/fat to /media/sdcard might be causing an issue? All my CDs are in /media/sdcard/games/AO486/cd. It seems like I have the case lined up, but from what I remember the last time I troubleshot this the full path isn't in LAUNCH.BAT, so it's possible that imgset isn't looking in the right place. Th...

Re: eXoFlynn Top 300 DOS Pack Updates and Support
I'm also having this problem, Every CD-based game I attempt to play fails with with the same error nizce reported. Furthermore, I can say that going into the OSD, mounting the CD image again (literally just selecting IDE 1-0, navigating to the same image, and selecting it again) causes the error to clear and lets me play the game normally after a m...

Re: Share the most terrible retro gaming memory you have
Once when I was a wee lad I got so frustrated with Star Trek 25th Anniversary for the NES I ripped the cartridge out of the console and stomped on it. Ended up putting a heel-sized hole in the plastic. I got scared of getting in trouble and threw the whole cartridge away. I sold my Genesis and all my Genesis games at a Funcoland in the late 90s to ...

Re: Problem with new MiSTer
I feel like this is a parable for following Terasic's instructions and verifying the DE10-Nano before setting it up as a MiSTer. It's possible that if OP had done this first they would have identified an issue and could have obtained a replacement board from Terasic. Instead they wasted their time and money and resold a potentially bad board on Ebay.

Re: Anyone know anything about these boards?
Yeah this is a wild board that is nothing like any of the hardware designs I've seen before. I'd be more than a little reluctant to plug a DE10-nano into it. Terasic has officially warned users about the variable quality of daughter boards and their advice is good. As far as I know most of the sellers here test what they sell before they send it to...

Re: Sega Saturn Core in Development
The Cyclone V in the De10-Nano has 41,910 ALMS in 110k LEs, so according to srg's chart the SH1/SH2 chips seem to take up about one fourth of the FPGA capacity.
Also worth pointing out that the 32X and CPS-3 also use SH-2 processors so this hard work is paving the way for those cores in the future.

Re: Wishlist of Cores You Would Like to See in the Future
Here's a left-field wish: a single music core that can play all the different chiptune music rip formats, the way the NES core can play .nsf files. If I ever made an attempt at developing a core, this is what I'd try to do.

Re: How worth it is MiSTer on a modern TV?
RetroArch has a feature called "Run Ahead" that has the core calculate multiple frames based on various inputs then roll back to serve up the correct frame based on what your inputs actually were. This seems less than ideal, but I bet it feels better than the alternative. According to RetroPie's docs you're looking at about 5.5 frames of ...

Re: Sorgelig You Have Given
Honestly I don't even understand the sentiment. I love updating my MiSTer, especially lately when updates have included new cores and new features for old cores. It's the best part about MiSTer being an open source hardware platform. Anyone can come to the project and add to it, and every MiSTer user benefits from that work.

Re: Wheel of Fortune - Sega CD
Like rhester I tested the Redump version from CDRomance this morning and it played fine with no lockup. Seems like the problem is either a bad dump that disagrees with the core but not original hardware; or the original game has two revisions, one that works fine on MiSTer and one that doesn't. Either way, it's worth at least looking into since the...

Re: Maximum input voltage for DE10-Nano / IO Board / USB hub?
I'd avoid giving it anything more than 5V, as that's what it's officially rated to receive. Perhaps it can handle 6V, but you'd be far from the first person to fry their MiSTer by using it in a way not recommended by the manufacturer. I have more than the usual number of USB devices plugged into my USB board, but it's just 2 arcade button controlle...

Re: USB Hub Broken After Last Update
After I performed the update (via Update_All) it failed to recognize my USB hub, but after performing a cold reboot by unplugging and plugging in the power cable my MiSTer booted normally and recognized my USB accessories. If the cold reboot had not worked I probably would have pulled my SD card and manually verified the Linux and MiSTer files and ...

Re: DOOM Enemy Behavior?
If you are comparing the DOOM on the SNES to DOOM on PC or other platforms, the game engine was rewritten from scratch, a reverse engineering job, by Randy Linden. Pretty sure we're comparing SNES Doom running on MiSTer to SNES Doom running on an emulator. I suppose it's worth it to compare the emulator behavior to Doom on actual SNES hardware, an...

Re: Feature request: Children Friendly/Kiosk/Party-Mode Menu
This is ultimately how I feel about it too. It's valid to want a friendlier UI for the MiSTer, and it's great if someone decides to take up the job, but don't whine and beg the folks currently working on development to do it for you. It's been made abundantly clear that none of the most prolific contributors to the project are interested, but the M...

Re: Feature request: Children Friendly/Kiosk/Party-Mode Menu
Before I got into MiSTer my impression was that it was something suited to tinkerers and was very fiddly and complicated. This was partially because early on this was more true, before update_all and Mr. Fusion and many other features were developed that vastly streamline and improve the experience. I was surprised how quickly and easily I got my M...

Re: Feature request: Children Friendly/Kiosk/Party-Mode Menu
I understand the argument that the MiSTer doesn't need a friendly polished UI, but this is still a request I've seen come up many, many times and I don't think it deserves to be dismissed out of hand every time. That said, I also don't think it's the responsibility of Sorgelig or any of the other developers to take up a project they don't believe i...

Re: LUTs / DRAM / SRAM / Block RAM chart
I'd imagine it's because of the dozen+ additional chips that some SNES carts contained that all have to be recreated in the FPGA, and all the overhead those optional chips require. List of Super NES enhancement chips
