Re: I want to design the perfect "catch all" controller for MiSTer and emulation

For me, mostly a PS-4 gamepad is fine except for that C-button on Sega, and then I unplug the PS-4 gamepad and go to a Sega USB gamepad, I bought online, but maybe there's some ideal game pad that could include both? Maybe two rows of three, but with little screens that are software updatable with names that we can see what the buttons are called? ...

Re: Latest ZXNext OS Core Not Working with MiSTer Core

I wouldn’t call it pointless. I quite like a few of the Next games. For me, I just kind of like the cores that have hard drive support. I think I want the whole experience of being on the target device for loading the software. I'm not sure, if any other Spectrum cores support hard drives or not. (Spectrum is a thing I'm only casually interested i...

Re: Accuracy of the C64 Core

I just know from years of development on mobile and game platforms that the emulators are never quite right. I developed for-sale Gameboy games that were sold in stores, mostly on emulator, but for the final test, I need real hardware. If you're going to go to the effort of creating a game for C64, I'd consider getting one. How much are real C64 th...

Re: Commodore 128 for the MiSTer?

Oh, thanks, you're right. For me DesTerm 2.1 works, DesTerm 3.0 does not. For future googlers, what works for me is "Expansion:RS232, RS232 mode:VIC-1011, RS232 Connection: Internal" DesTerm 2.1 seems to work at 9600, though I haven't really stressed it out.

And I did get dialogue term running, like in that video. I was unable to get DesTerm working. Maybe a config issue, but I couldn't figure it out.

Re: Wishlist of Cores You Would Like to See in the Future

Searching this topic, no one has ever mentioned 'Exidy Sorcerer.' The other weird old one that I saw sold but didn't know anyone who actually owned one was the 'Compucolor 2.' I think Sorcerer is Z80, and Compucolor is 8080, maybe? I think Sorcerer has more software for it. Compucolor 2 was always running this color Star Trek game in computer store...

Re: Commodore 128 for the MiSTer?

I'm using this CPM here. https://github.com/csoren/c128cpm/blob/develop/releases/cpm+128.d71 -- this loads into CPM fine. Though I have zero software for this mode. Is there anything to use CPM for? Is there Zork for CPM? Is there vi for CPM? I had C64 back in the day, but never had C128. Interesting to see what it was like. Just trying out GEOS128...

Re: Wishlist of Cores You Would Like to See in the Future

The original Macintosh LC might not be that far off and would get us old Macintosh games in color. 68020, no FPU, no MMU, looks like some very ordinary-looking graphics modes.

This says Mac+ has a 6522 as a square wave generator. 6522 controls all kinds of stuff, keyboard, etc, so must be some bits of this in the core already.

Re: ZX Spectrum Next: Problem Saving Basic Programs

From that thread looks like we need good instructions on how to 'save a basic program' from ZXNext. I'm a tourist in Spectrum-land and this was not at all obvious to me. (I see here my past self-did this, but I'll have to check if I can still do this.)

Re: Atari 800XL/65XE/130XE and VBXE

I did get the Atari 800 core to build, but it is a pain because I never got the zpu source to build on PC -- though I did get it to build on Linux. But then I got Quartus only to build on PC. Hint, you need a specific version of Quartus for it to work. Implementing VBXE is medium-advanced level project, there is a lot to this. It is pretty well-doc...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_Instruments_SN76489 No, wait, this doesn't mention Mac. I'm pretty sure Mac never had a sound chip like the Atari ST has a sound chip. That it only had D-A and software mixing. Are you sure sounds are really missing? You have a game that plays a sound on other Mac+ software emulators that are silent in Mister? If...

Re: Coco3 Core Released

Been goofing with NitroOS9. It does seem to work, looks like some kind of Unix-like OS for the system. The VHD files with 6809 in the name seem to work if I pick CoCoSDC. The magic word is "DOS" -- type that in basic. The GIME versions come up in 80 columns. I don't think the mouse works? Anything that needs a mouse just gets stuck. TBH, ...

That's this thing here that's missing? This is a general overview, but it's missing specifics on the registers. Maybe it's a mistake telling Mac that it's a SE if this is absent, that games might fallback to Mac+ sound if it's set to +?

I did find one for X68000 under the name nfggames, going to see if I can get it working. I did get MegaAgs working, going through some of the music now. This is pretty nice. I think I may need better speakers for my Mister setup though.

Cores with Music Libraries

I've been playing with snd_play.prg on Atari St which has a decent large collection of music for this program. Lot of it isn't so great, but I'm just browsing now, maybe there are some gems in here. I'm also aware of mod files for Amiga, and there's a large archive of these. What other cores have interesting, non-mainstream collections of music. Mo...

Re: ZX Spectrum Next: Problem Saving Basic Programs

The new core does come up with 'Error opening 'menu.ini/.def'! pretty often. It's weird, I can get it to work, after resetting, and futzing with it, but often it's just printing this message. It's not the patch, both the patch and unpatched do this. The 12/10/21 patched core works a lot more stable is my take it.

Setting up paddles and gamepads at the same time

This all seems fine until I go to multiple joysticks and paddles. My iCode and vintage Atari paddles is actually recognized by Mister and it does work with some fuss. I did get the Breakout working with it, at least. The setup is confusing. With Pong the range was weird, but maybe that's in iCode thing? Still playing with this. My guess, right now,...
