Re: Sega Megadrive arcade power stick

Ah, misterfpga.co.uk? Looks like their adapters don't include the level shifter, so you would indeed need one, it's sold as a "SNAC Adapter For MiSTer USB": https://misterfpga.co.uk/product/mister-snac-adapter-usb/ I'm guessing the pad works without it since its chip might work OK with 3.3v, but it's probably a good idea to get the level ...

Re: Sega Megadrive arcade power stick

Hmm, hopefully it's just the connector, maybe try cleaning it with some isopropyl alcohol or something. You'd probably only need a level shifter if you got one of the SNAC adapters that cost less than $10 USD off of Aliexpress, but if you paid a lot more than that, I assume it's built into the adapter. Otherwise the SNAC adapter won't send the corr...

Re: Sega Megadrive arcade power stick

My Genesis version works fine via SNAC, but it needs a level shifter. How is yours connected? Yours looks the UK version, I assume that one also uses membranes for the stick instead of microswitches, so the membranes might need cleaning. But if it works fine in some cores but not others, I'm guessing it's a problem with how it's connected.

I remember finding a link in the description of an X68000 YouTube video, I forget what one exactly. Might've been a general X68K video and not one related to MiSTer.

Thank you, that does indeed seem to fix the issue on my Mitsubishi PC CRT!
Can also check my consumer Trinitron (Direct Video > active composite/S-Video adapter) later this week if needed.

Re: The State of DACs for the MiSTer and Direct Video

Have you tried the old Genesis core? When using the Benfei or Moread (CS5210), my PC CRT doesn't like the 320x224 modes in Castlevania Bloodlines and other Genesis games over Direct Video + Forced Scandoubler when using the Nuked core, but it works fine on the old core (non-Direct Video with the Nuked core also works fine). I'm guessing this might ...

Re: The State of DACs for the MiSTer and Direct Video

It has a MSRP of 80,000 yen though ($536 USD at current exchange rate), so one could probably buy several HDFury3's for that price.
https://imagenics.co.jp/products/cro-dac11/
It also doesn't work for HDCP sources (not that you would need it for MiSTer, but it's nice for systems like PS3).

is the Tanita Twin Stick compatible?

I'm assuming the Tanita Twin Stick is compatible with MiSTer since it's a PS4 controller, but was curious if anyone had tried it yet. http://www.sanwa-d.shop/shopdetail/000000000074/ Not that I was planning on buying one, I hate artificial scarcity bullshit (they only produce a limited amount in each batch every few years despite using preorders).....

DigiKey and Mouser also have free shipping for overseas orders over $50, IIRC. Not ideal if you only need 1 PSU, but still pretty nice.

RetroCastle does sell SNAC adapters, but I don't see the level shifter.

I assume their PS1 SNAC would be safe to use without it though, since PS1 controllers use 3.3v.

Possible Screen Rotation Bug?

Started up the Master System core for the first time in a while, and for some reason the screen was rotated 90 deg clockwise (so I would have to rotate my display counter-clockwise, which I don't think I've ever done). Not sure if this is a bug related to a recent update or my settings, couldn't find a setting that fixed the issue so I had to reset...

Unfortunately no one seems to care about this. Kind of mind boggling that fundamental stuff like this goes unfixed. :( It's possible it might get fixed at some point, but maybe it's not considered very high priority. If you have the ability to look into it further yourself, it might help speed things along. I'd like to help development myself, but...

Looks pretty good, will be interested to see how it performs. I don't really want the buttons or a cheap box to use as a case but I guess just the stick + encoder would be around $80 anyway.

Yes, I assume it's a system-wide problem, but I have only tested on the two arcade cores I listed. Which repo would be best to raise this on? I assume the Main_MiSTer: https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/Main_MiSTer/issues?page=2&q=is%3Aissue+is%3Aopen Looks like there's already an issue for "Joystick direction input remains stuck if held whi...

I've also noticed this in R Type, so I'd like to see it fixed as well.

Might be a good idea to make a GitHub issue, I assume it's more of an issue with the main MiSTer rather than any specific arcade core.

Tried the composite blend on the new core, and it definitely blurred the image a good bit, at least on the analog output. Maybe not as blurry as a real Genesis over composite, though.

I know there was a beta of the MiSTer that worked with single .bin+cue games:

I thought it was integrated into the current version by now, but if you're still having problems you might want to convert your images to chd, that worked for me.

you should get a mister board with vga output

those converters hdmi-rgb add lag

Only if it has a scaler in it. Pretty sure the OP's Benfei adapter is just a DAC, so it shouldn't have any lag.

Yes the Mister will fallback to 60hz mode for those cores on a 60hz monitor.

Nope, I have vsync_adjust=2 set and both the MiSTer's OSD and the monitor's info display shows the correct hz, and the monitor is displaying it without dropping frames or judder so it would seem to be an undocumented feature with this monitor.

My Samsung S80A is listed as a 60hz monitor, but it displays 75hz from Wonderswan and 70hz from DOS just fine (it doesn't seem to like 50hz signals though). So you might not need to get a high-refresh monitor for cores like those.
