Re: S-Video and Composite Over Component Output! (Custom Cores)
I am currently using Antonio's adapter for composite output because it's the best my Samsung GX TV supports until I RGB mod it. I really like Antonio's adapter, but the genesis core makes me nauseous which was a big disappointment. I'd like to try this output method, but I am not sure which kind of adapter I need. Ive seen VGA>component adapters (...

Re: S-Video and Composite Over Component Output! (Custom Cores)
I know there's only going to be so much that can be done with just Composite and the very simple method I'm using to connect it. I've used so many adapters and converter boxes over the years that such a straight forward solution feels like magic. Any improvements you can make I'll just call additional magic! Thank you for the work you've done with ...

Re: TMNT Cowabunga Collection may have some stuff taken out 😢
Solution, edit the songs out of the territories that have an issue. At that point it would seem like Konami is picking winners and losers. At least I'd have the option to import it. I believe Xbone is region free. If it cost more and Konami refused to cover the bill AGAIN they can go fuck themselves! Omg I'll be so happy whenever some brave soul c...

S-Video and Composite Over Component Output! (Custom Cores)
I saw an interesting post being shared from a MikeSimone3 (or MikeS11). They've been working on S-Video and Composite support over the existing Component output of MiSTer. It's on a core by core basis but this is particularly exciting news to anyone with limited inputs on their CRT. https://twitter.com/MikeSimone3/status/1509006474508263426 Current...

Re: TMNT Cowabunga Collection may have some stuff taken out 😢
I can understand the Pizza Hut logos being removed. That's a simple-ish sprite change out and only those that played the originals would even miss it. The licensed TV show theme song is a sadder miss if it's not there. It does make me wonder a bit. The original Arcade1Up cabinet for TMNT had a cover version instead of the actual licensed track. The...

Re: TMNT the Cowabunga Collection Xbox/PlayStation/Nintendo platforms
I'm definitely picking it up. Between original carts and the Arcade1Up cab, I do own many of the games but I like showing support for things like this. The MiSTer is great for playing the console and handheld games but I do enjoy a compilation with extras to look through, especially with how much 80s and 90s TMNT was a big part of my youth. Plus, I...

Re: Filters, Shadowmask and LCDs
I mean it's great having more options, but is anyone with functioning eyes really thinking that these abominations, are on pair or even remotely comparable to what a crt look like? The general consensus is... yes. People do think they're at a stage of being very comparable to a CRT. It's not replicating the glass curve and how reflective it is but...

Re: Top 5 Games for the PlayStation?
There's going to be a lot of overlap for top games and part of the fun of having something like a MiSTer build is being able to experience anything on the system. So instead, I'll offer 5 games that are different from the usual lists. 1) Wild Arms - An RPG that many times gets overshadowed by Square(Enix)'s releases on the system. But because there...

Re: MiSTer USB mouse input madness (Arkanoid versions)
In terms of retro gaming, a mouse is rarely the primary input device. Even in older PC days, a mouse was not always included. Keyboard or controller was the typical input. That's carrying over to the MiSTer as it's basically accepted you're going to have something other than a mouse for the vast majority of the games. You need to consider that each...

Re: Filters on the Core Menus
There is something to consider. When the filters and shadow masks folders were reorganized, the picture became blank because the cores were no longer pointing to valid files. One update_all download and some people were left with sound but no picture in their previously set cores. Imagine if the main menu was also affected. That thought alone makes...

Re: MiSTerCade P1 Free / Freeplay on - Candy Cab issue
I don't have a MiSTercade, but MiSTerAddons' website describes it as the following: "Merge P1COIN and P1START for pseudo free-play mode". From that, I'd assume with the switch flipped, pressing Start on the controller changes into hitting the Coin and Start at the same time or slightly delayed. I believe this is assuming that you're using...

Re: Why is the default layout flipped from the Neo Geo CD Pad?
Set it correctly in Core menu. Cost 10sec of time ;) Do you mean remap the buttons? If you do, I'm aware of how to remap it, I was looking to fix the issue. Why not fix it at the core level if possible? That's framing it as something to "fix". Neo Geo layout I'm finding out is very much a personal preference. Unless someone is using the ...

Re: Bug or faulty SDRAM module?
If you set the MiSTer to boot into a core faster than the default bootcore_timeout value, you're risking forcing it to boot before the system is finished loading. I ran into issues trying to autoboot the Neo Geo core without the 10 second delay. The games would load corrupted and a MiSTer error message box stating something about not enough RAM. Th...

Re: Joystick not working right in early Sierra games
Speaking as someone that once tried to use a joystick with Sierra adventure games back in the day, I never got one to work correctly. I think I ran into pretty much the same problems you're describing on real hardware. Love those old classics, but it was a heck of a time for coding and compatibility. I forget if it was just their SCI engine or if i...

Re: What do I need to run single arcade games at 15khz resolutions?
Neo Geo and CPS2 games tend to require an SDRAM module. Jotego has been taking advantage of the add on for a lot of his cores so I'd personally mark the SDRAM as a requirement unless you're not interested at all in his cores. Also, I second just using one MiSTer for multiple games in one arcade machine. There's no need to buy multiple builds unless...

Re: Map space to a controller button
The functionality is already there. The MiSTer OSD button will skip buttons during mapping. As long as your controller has that mapped from the initial main menu mapping, you can skip buttons when you're doing the individual core mappings.

Re: SNAC Questions
I bought my SNAC adapter from MiSTerAddOns before there was the case option. Mine is labeled as v3.1 on the board itself. I don't follow the ins and outs of SNAC, but I wasn't aware there was anything "new" about the current offering; just that now he had a cased option. I didn't think anything of possible differences so I haven't done fu...

Re: Manual Welding MiSTer Kit No USB
MiSTer builds are mostly the same. If you find a guide for a standard IO build, you can follow it the same way. It should also be a micro USB bridge, not USB-C. The DE10-Nano doesn't have USB-C on the board. Other than trying to figure out the order of assembly for the RTC battery piece, it's all only going to go together one way. The microUSB port...

Re: Tate mode rotated cores need option for rotation direction
There isn't an easy way around this. This is mostly down to original behavior. Not every core has a flip option because not every arcade game had a flip option. If you bought an arcade machine back in the day, it would be oriented correctly and there would be no reason to have to turn it. And theoretically if someone was swapping out a game in a ma...

Re: The Result of My Search for a Great MiSTer Display
I was one that had major issues when that big Linux update dropped so I opted out of those updates for a while. I tried to do the newest main MiSTer update recently and that's when I got the black screen issue. Thankfully, I was able to do the MiSTer and Linux update non-destructively through the MiSTer SD Card Installer program and then the issue ...

Re: Rotating a vertical arcade core on a CRT TV?
This may not be related to the issues you were having, but I did notice something odd that I thought I'd mention. I've been putting together a vertical monitor build and found issues with certain versions of the core files. The Arcade Organizer in the update_all had all the vertical monitor games put together under the rotation category so I was in...

Re: Rotating a vertical arcade core on a CRT TV?
I'm not sure what to make of that. It almost looks like you'd need to resize the picture in the TV's menu, but maybe not with all that empty space. It is also interesting when you changed the horizontal resolution from 320 to 640 that it stretched out the vertical picture, though. I wouldn't have expected that. I'm definitely not an expert in this ...

Re: Rotating an Vertical Arcade core on a CRT?
I didn't think it applied when vga_scaler=1 is set, but try also setting forced_scandoubler=1 in the ini as well. That sets the analog out connections to 31KHz instead of the typical default 15KHz. If the TV can't handle the 15KHz, then perhaps the 31KHz signal will do the trick. If you do have forced_scandoubler=1 already, then try turning it off ...

Re: Rotating an Vertical Arcade core on a CRT?
The rotation option in the arcade cores is implemented for the digital HDMI output only. It doesn't function for analog signal output since the analog out is meant to be the original output of the arcade board, console, etc. The adapter from that thread is really an HDMI to Composite converter. The MiSTer isn't doing anything different to the HDMI ...

Re: SD card in second SD slot on I/O for ao486?
As far as I'm aware and just checked the wiki to try to verify, it doesn't look like the ao486 core uses that second slot. That microSD card slot is different, though. It's not a second microSD card slot in the normal sense. It's a card slot that gets direct wired to the core like how the User I/O USB slot is used for direct wiring original control...

Re: "One Type of core" Setup
The MiSTer is only going to be able to play what you have on it. With my Neo Geo cabinet, I don't have the core files on it for other arcade or consoles. So if you want only arcade cores, then that's all you put on it (plus their associated ROMs, of course). Update scripts just tend to be a one quick solution but you are absolutely free to manually...

Re: MiSTer doesn't support native 240p resolution?
I think some explanations will help here. Yes, the MiSTer can output to native resolution. How? That can be a bit less straight forward. The first thing to know is that most displays these days won't actually handle the old console 320 x 240 (interlaced) resolution and the others similar around that point. Heck, it's even difficult to find one that...

Re: I Miss That C Button
Have you looked into Retro-Bit's controllers? Their wired ones are pretty cheap and rank pretty good for wired latency. And with the Saturn core on the horizon, the Saturn or Genesis style 8 button controller may be worth a pickup. Front 6 for everything Genesis, full 8 for Saturn.

Is there a way for the Neogeo core to save a specific BIOS for a specific game? Do you mean the specific region or do you mean a BIOS other than the UniBIOS? Unless there's a specific issue with the UniBIOS that doesn't happen with the originals, you can set what region you want in the UniBIOS startup settings and then save the settings to the mem...
