Did you end up using the JST/XH connector kit and split/cut the ends? Re: MiSTer to an HD CRT?

540p seems to work on my Sony 36XBR800 with the mister. It's a 4:3 HD set from 2002. To get it working over DVI I had to use a HDMI->DVI converter box though (product 431 at converters.tv). This TV is picky about what it accepts over DVI so the box does some magic to make the Sony happy. I originally bought the converter to fix an issue with the R...

Re: MiSTer to an HD CRT?

By "spending all that money" I meant Retrotink. This thing costs ~300USD, no? If you don't need the RT and have a friend & transport & space for a 32" behemoth, then sure, you can grab it and experiment away. Personally, I don't care much for r/crtgaming fads, because I have yet to see anything there (including the above pic...

Re: MiSTer to an HD CRT?

Yeah, the one im talking about is in really nice looking shape, said it wasnt used much in basement rec room for its life, and he wants next to nothing. Its 4:3 aspect I know scandoubling with crt fx on a 31kHz crt has no perceivable lag, and looks great BUT, on pc crt's they lack the crt glow punch to push through the darkened lines, I dont think ...

Re: MiSTer to an HD CRT?

vsync_adjust=2 is about the same lag as a Retrotink 5x in no-buffer mode. I.E. its a handful of lines and is near the minimum any scaler could reasonably achieve. So you really only have to worry about the lag on the HD TV side. (Unless you want to use lightguns, it might come up short there...) Scanline scaling filters really don't work until you...

Re: MiSTer to an HD CRT?

Will still have processing lag unless you get that crazy 1080p widescreen Intergraph InterView 28hd96 CRT that John Carmack had. Then again who here doesn't want that monitor. Theres a guy on shmups who found out on Sony HD crt's theres an option in the service menu to disable all scaling/processing but then you have to feed it a native 1080i sign...

MiSTer to an HD CRT?

So Ive never really looked into HD CRT tv's before because they were always known to have bad processing/scaling/lag for 240p content. But with mister you could output native 540p and add scanline filters. Theres a guy on shmups who found out on Sony HD crt's theres an option in the service menu to disable all scaling/processing but then you have t...

Re: 240p120hz PC VGA CRT

I have tried 240p/120hz and the high refresh also increases the intensity. So it completely solves the dimming problem, and delivers a much sharper look than the scandoubler. You aren't really increasing the horizontal refresh any, still around 31khz, so I don't think it should wear the guns out significantly. Maybe more the phosphers along the sc...

Re: 240p120hz PC VGA CRT

Sounds like a fun, yet dangerous experiment. You could fry the flyback or something else while experimenting. You may or may not get it to work at all, but if you do, I have my doubts it will change the look very much. VGA monitors are not as "bright" (I use that term loosely) or bloomy as TV's. I was devastated when my large VGA monitor...

240p120hz PC VGA CRT

So Ive explored alot of various video ouput setting using 4k displays with 5x scaling, YPbPr 15kHz signals to consumer crt sets, and currently been playing with settings on a PC VGA CRT. Scandoubling looks great but CRT FX 25% doesnt have defined enough scanlines for my liking, 50% looks good but the display is a little too dim, 75% looks awesome b...

ahh, those are ATmega328P boards, where the daemonbite firmware was made specifically for ATmega32U4 boards im sure a skilled programmer could port mickgyvers firmware over to the ATmega328P, but as of now, you need them ATmega32U4 boards Thank you! That's what I needed to know. I got my 32U4's in from China but wish I had ordered more now lol.

Re: To those of you running a PC VGA CRT.....

Well one issue is many of these monitors are more tilted towards 70/75hz, as the refresh goes up the image does get more vivid. That's the neat thing about forcing 120hz/240p, you both get natural scanlines, and its more than vivid enough to be usable, compared to fake scandoubler lines at 480p/60. But yes there's going to be more jitter involved,...

Re: To those of you running a PC VGA CRT.....

What also makes me laugh is that people think putting lines across your screen, instantly means scanlines - it doesn't. It's just lines on your screen, which is why your image is now darker. Another hilarious "Feature", is the up and coming shadow masks. Seriously, these look nothing like a real CRT, and you are only deluding yourself if...

Re: To those of you running a PC VGA CRT.....

I took the cover off and adjusted the pots.... Increasing brightness just washes the black level and colors out. I did turn it up a hair so I didn't have to max it in the display menu. I did get a touch more sharpness though by tweeking focus. I just think being somewhat dim is part of these entry and mid level VGA crt's due to their high resolutio...

Re: To those of you running a PC VGA CRT.....

I picked up two monitors that are just too dim to use scandoubler lines at all, and another that can just about manage 75%. This all depends both on the quality and wear of the monitor and your lighting conditions. The lag in vsync_adjust=2 is measured in lines, not frames. It's really irrelevant and should not be holding you back at all from usin...

To those of you running a PC VGA CRT.....

Do you prefer scan double in the ini with crt 25,50,75% scan double fx Or VGA scaling in the ini and then being able to use all the filters albeit with a tiny bit of latency? hey there, these are the ones ive bought, and would recommend. noting, this version has the V2 reinforced USB port, versus the top mounted USB port (top mounted V1s are sensitive to movement and break easily) ATmega32U4 - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01HCXMBOU Monoprice USB Cables - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001U3SU8U I have a bunch of the McGyver ...
