Re: Groovy_MiSTer Core

If you happen to be running your groovymame instance on a linux host, I compiled a thing: https://github.com/zakk4223/Mister_USBIP I've just tested this. I measured input latency with usbip vs local usb. On my tests, added latency is only 0.33-0.50 ms. That's honestly better than I thought it would come out to. Hopefully something on the windows s...

The vrr mode on the mister doesn't really modify the video signal to do varying length vblank. Also the chip is somewhat limited so it can't really scanout at high refresh rates. vsync_adjust=0 DOES do variable vblank, at the expense of being triple buffered. Also I'm not entirely sure it is stable (I think the onboard HDMI chip gets really confuse...

If you're dead-set on storing your cores on USB, you can use symlinks, It's a Linux feature, so you'll have to look outside of the forum for information on how to do that. aren't symlinks not supported by FAT? https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/492698/why-dont-fat-filesystems-support-links Mister uses a slightly modified exFAT implementation...

Re: USB vs Jamma versatility: In some scenarios, is Jamma even worth it??

I thought a Jamma solution would be both more 'authentic' and basically lagless being directly wired and nothing lost from 'USB polling'. Imagine my surprise to see the RetroPad32 and iBuffalo 'beat' the jamma connection of a Mistercade [Granted, I and most people would not be able to notice such a tiny lag difference between 0.69 and 0.738]. How ...

Mister reports that mode as 448i, so something thinks it is interlaced

aberu wrote: Wed May 17, 2023 4:47 pm

It could be similar to the Sega Genesis core when playing Sonic 2 in 2-player, where it's not "true" interlaced. that game specifically doesn't output interlaced to the TV, it outputs 240p while the game appears like it's interlaced.

Re: Input Device Configuration Limitations

There's tradeoffs here, and mister picked one and mame picked another. Mister's advantage is if I map a controller (like say a dualsense) in a sane way for a given core it will always be mapped that way. Even if I plug in a second one, it will just show up as player 2 with no extra config required. Even better, if the controller has a gamecontrolle...

Re: Will names.txt Ever Be Fixed?

There is no “official one” as far as I know. It’s a feature that you can make use of — if you don’t want it, just delete it or make your own with the preferred name mappings you want. It exists to decouple the core names from what you want displayed in the menus, and you don’t have to use it. The default setup does not use names.txt (…unless somet...

They ARE using update_all's alternative names.txt. The one in the main mister repo doesn't have anything like this, nor is it part of the mister distribution repo.

I'm not sure where update all pulls those from, but perhaps go complain there. (or disable it in update all and use the official names.txt)

Re: Allwinner D1 Possible Future Cheaper FPGA Options

Isn't the framework mostly on the FPGA side though ? The HPS is for mostly housekeeping duties All rom loading/file browsing, usb controller interfacing/maping, configuration saving etc are handled by the HPS. The FPGA side framework is the scaler and some interfaces to sdram/ddr3. A lot of it is a bridge between the HPS and your core code. You ca...

bInterval is what the device claims to support in the HID report(s). jspoll changes that polling interval (via configuring the USB interrupt URB interval) internally in the kernel. You will not see that reflected in the bInterval value. You will see it in logs, though. (dmesg etc). [19032.232409] HID usage: 0x00010005, original interval: 6 [19032.2...

PSX cheats use the product ID embedded in the disc image to determine which file to load cheats from. That's all the "numbered" files you saw, it's PSX product ids.

I didn't check them all, but there's no cheats for disc 2 at least. I wonder if that's just an oversight in the cheats db mister pulls from

I apologize for my ignorance, but how much more powerful would this platform be compared to the MiSTer? It seems to only have 4,000 more LEs. Also, is it true that there's no HDMI? I'm not well versed on what makes a good FPGA gaming platform so what are your guy's thoughts? Not an expert, but my read is that it's probably weaker. It only has 128M...

It's not a problem with the script. The organizer uses an external database and it probably hasn't been updated. I know someone was making improvements to the organizer database, so hopefully that'll be done soon. And just to answer before the question is asked: it's a database because 1) parsing hundreds of xml files on the mister is slow. 2) MRAs...

You should check the MRA and rbfs to make sure when you downloaded them it actually downloaded the correct thing. Github uses various 'redirect' pages and we've had multiple instances where that's what people ended up downloading instead of the actual files.

Re: How about make MiSTer to be OSSC?

It's not for scaling mister stuff. It just turns the de-10 nano into a 'ossc-pro lite' for cheap(ish). It just uses the same de-10 board as mister does. If you already have a DE-10 nano and need to scale some analog sources (real consoles, computers etc) then it is an attractive option. So the Dexx-vd_isl board looks to be released. I'm a bit confu...

Hey yall, so the first doc linked to above specifies the following re: the Scramble core: Scramble 20180929 240p 15.86kHz, 60.6Hz However, the fix to my display issue was to set "video_mode=9" which maps to "1920x1080@50" aka a 50hz video mode. Why is Scramble listed as 60.6Hz but you knew to set the display to 50Hz? What am I ...
