Game Mode

I updated MiSTer today after months of not using it. My Vizio P65QX-H1 4K LCD TV has also seen some firmware updates during that time. Now, every time MiSTer switches video modes, my TV's "Game Mode" re-enables itself. This happens even when MiSTer returns to a video mode it has previously used and for which I've previously disabled "...

Re: Advice for HDMI Users

So what's the definitive answer? There isn't a "definitive" universal answer or solution. Nobody has gotten to the root cause of all this yet. All we have at present are workarounds that may help. I just stumbled across this, which makes me wonder if it would help or if it's just snake oil: https://www.crutchfield.com/S-23Su8PeBEup/p_120...

Anyone using this adapter (not the NS 1 model) with 8bitdo Bluetooth controllers?
Anyone able to measure the latency?

Re: SN30 Pro Bluetooth Works but Then Does Not Work

Sometimes you must delete all Bluetooth device pairing and start over from scratch. I wrote a script (in the Scripts repo on GitHub) that does this. It's gotten me out of situations exactly like what you describe.

Re: Advice for HDMI Users

Cutting the traces for only pins 13 and 15 appears to work great. Actually, cutting pin 15 solves some problems but creates others. Cutting it causes eARC negotiation between my VIZIO TV and my ThenAudio SHARC to intermittently fail. So I'm not sure I'd recommend that folks cut/lift pin 15 just yet. This issue is being discussed in some detail -- ...

Cutting the trace for pin 16 breaks video completely.

Cutting the traces for only pins 13 and 15 appears to work great.

Someone in Discord is suggesting I try to cut the trace for only pin 17. I'll try that next.

Re: Can't get MGL files to work

MGL files seem like one step closer to a nice way to list and launch individual PC games directly from the OSD with the ao486 core. If the MGL could tell the ao486 core which virtual drives/cds/floppies to mount at which positions, then each game could go onto its own bootable VHD/floppy/CD (with its own AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files), with ano...

Re: Advice for HDMI Users

For the sake of testing I would get two adapters with complete headers, and set up short jumpers. That way you can permutate without trashing any boards. I don't need to test very many permutations, and I'm handy enough with a soldering iron to reconnect any traces I've scratched out if it comes to that while I'm experimenting. But thanks for the ...

Re: Advice for HDMI Users

I bought a small bag of those HDMI M-to-F breakout test boards from AliExpress. They arrived yesterday. I'll be using them to finally conclusively determine which HDMI pins really need to be lifted to avoid all CEC, ARC, and eARC problems, and to maybe work with someone in the community who's handy enough with 3D modeling/printing to design and mak...

Re: Advice for HDMI Users

Has anybody tried using one of these breakout boards ? Assuming the HDMI signal passes through correctly, it would be a lot easier to cut traces on one of these than trying to block/remove pins on an HDMI cable. Whoa! That's exactly the kind of solution I've been looking for! Any idea if/where I could get a nice little plastic or 3D-printed case t...

Thanks, I'll give that a shot!

How does one go about patching an EXE to embed a different DOS4GW.EXE or DOS32A.EXE? I have a large library of "No-CD" modified game EXEs that will need the same process applied.

I've finally gotten around to trying out the ao486 core, and I've quickly run into the same issues with Warcraft II and other DOS/4GW games under MS-DOS 6.22. I've got the 2.01a version of DOS4GW.EXE, but I can't use it to run WAR2.EXE: DOS/4GW fatal error (1008): can't load executable format for file WAR2.EXE [1] I've also tried switching the hard...

Feature Request: Settings common to all INI files

Context: I use my MiSTer as a portable game console that I often connect to different TVs in my home, or take over to friend's houses to play on their TVs. So I connect it to a lot of different TVs (all using HDMI). I like to get the best possible picture from whichever TV I connect it to, so I use the Alt1, Alt2, and Alt3 INI files as overrides c...

Well, it turns out there's at least one more HDMI pin that most be lifted to cure all compatibility issues with other equipment. Re: Advice for HDMI Users

Just circling back on this, since folks seem to have gotten lost in the details I posted months ago: You have to disconnect BOTH pins 13 (via the CEC-less cable I recommended earlier) AND pin 15 (via a microscopic piece of masking tape applied to the cable end) to resolve all known issues. Lifting pin 13 alone is not sufficient. I've thoroughly sea...

Would there be any real danger to disconnecting HDMI pin 15 from U34 as well? Looks to me like it isn't hooked into any other chips/logic, but just ultimately runs to 5V+.

Re: Advice for HDMI Users

The U34 pin connections in the DE-10 Nano schematic would match up with the "DBV or DCK" packages... but the "DRL" or "DCK2" packages apparently have identical sizes but with different pinouts. I wonder if someone chose the wrong package such that the pinout of U34 doesn't actually match what the Nano's schematic expec...

Re: Advice for HDMI Users

Taping over pin 15 resolves my eARC issues.

I now have to wonder if U34 is somehow mis-wired or mis-used by the DE-10 Nano. Here's the datasheet for that component:

Pins 15 and 16 are the other two pins also "protected" by U34, so maybe it's one (or both) of them.

Re: Advice for HDMI Users

I taped over pins 14 and 19 on my CEC-less adapter, but it did not resolve the eARC problems, so it doesn't have anything to do with those pins. Must be one of the others.

Re: Advice for HDMI Users

Any chance this fix might also apply to HDMI pins 14 and 19, which are the "ethernet over HDMI" pins responsible for eARC? Because even with the CEC pin (13) removed from the equation, my MiSTer still screws with my TV's ability to correctly establish an eARC connection (which relies upon those ethernet pins). The DE-10 Nano schematics s...

Re: Advice for HDMI Users

I reckon this is caused by an ESD protection device called U34 on the bottom of the PCB. There is a diode inside this device between CEC and the 5V rail, so when power is disconnected, the diode pulls the CEC line low and stops it working. I cut the connection to pin 1 (see attached picture) and my ARC issues went away. I don't think the ESD prote...

Re: Advice for HDMI Users

NEW INFO: There is STILL something electrically weird going on with MiSTer's HDMI port. Even using the CEC-less cable and the CableMatters booster, if the MiSTer is plugged into my new 4K Samsung Q90T television, then the TV is unable to correctly detect that it is connected to an eARC AV receiver on a different input. Something about the MiSTer el...

Yes. As I said, they pair just fine — but inputs are not recognized.

I’ve already identified that rolling back to the 20200618 Linux kernel image resolves the issue, so this looks like a regression therein.

8bitdo M30 Bluetooth controllers no longer work after 20200908 linux update

I can pair the controller fine, but the OSD refuses to recognize any buttons I press on it. I can’t even remap the buttons because when the remapping sequence asks me to press DPad-right, and I do, it acts as if I’m not.

Same problem with my other identical controller.
