Re: Some general questions before I order from UltimateMister

I'll add my recommendation for the SD Card+External HD method. I had a spare 480GB SSD so I bought a cheap case for it (£10-ish from memory) and stored all my games on that. SD Cards 'wear out' much faster than SSDs. Load times seem fine for stuff like PS1 games. Mine is currently formatted EXFAT but I'm going to re-format it to ext4, as that's a m...

Re: HDMI Output Not Working

If I'm reading this right, you have two MiSTer systems? If so, what happens if you boot the new one using the SD card from the existing (working) one? Yeah. What I can do is make an image of my working SD card and flash it over to the other one. I suspect something is going on with the Mr. Fusion installer. I’d be inclined to just pop it out of th...

I think that would explain your C64 problem. I might be wrong but I think the C64 core boots to a black screen if there’s no RAM module.

Re: BBC Core Can’t Get Past ‘Card?'

If you change the model away from 'B' to 'Master' you do get the ability to load SSD/DSD images. Not sure why that is Master-only. However, my biggest concern with the 'official' BBC Micro core is that it still has the bug where the last vertical line isn't rendered. You can clearly see this if you boot Acornsoft's 'Starship Command' - the upper sc...

Purely out of interest, but would Bluetooth headphones work with a MiSTer with a Bluetooth dongle? I don't have a set to try (well, I do but un/re-pairing them is dark magic!)

The multisystem seems to have been discontinued.

Do you mean the Multisystem sold by RMC-The Cave? Seems to still be a going thing:

Re: The Result of My Search for a Great MiSTer Display

The TV is very lightweight, only problem really is getting it level. Vertically it's fairly easy, but turning back horizontally was a pain so, if you look closely, I superglued a small bubble level on the right side bottom of the TV  That is, frankly, a genius idea that I shall absolutely steal should I find myself in a similar situation 🙂👍

Re: 9.7" iPad Retina Screen Perfect for MiSTer, $60 Fully Assembled 😄

The USB C U adaptors I bought worked perfectly. I'm still not sure why I can't get a display from the HDMI->USB C adaptor. Might revisit that at some point. Edit: tried it again, but still no joy. I even tried setting the input specifically to USB C (rather the the default of AutoSelect) but nope. To be clear, I'm still using a separate power lead ...

Re: 9.7" iPad Retina Screen Perfect for MiSTer, $60 Fully Assembled 😄

(laugh!) Ok, so, important note: if buying a mini-HDMI U adaptor, it's vitally important to make sure the mini-HDMI plug is angled the right way. The sloped side of the mini-HDMI needs to be facing outwards , not inwards. Guess who ordered (and took delivery of) the wrong one? Yep. Silly mistake. Less than £8 so not a tragedy, but still feeling a b...

Re: 9.7" iPad Retina Screen Perfect for MiSTer, $60 Fully Assembled 😄

Ok - can confirm that the HDMI to USB C adaptor does not appear to work, despite USB C being a valid input source. I may have something else misconfigured, but it’s no biggie. usb-c is a valid video input when connected to a laptop. i can connect a single usb-c cable to my laptop and it will get power and video. Hmmm. Might be an adaptor thing, bu...

Re: 9.7" iPad Retina Screen Perfect for MiSTer, $60 Fully Assembled 😄

I've not used a usbc-hdmi adapter like Grey-area linked, I dont know if that will work. I think it will, but I'm not 100% sure. When I was messing with the OSD before I got it into English, it sort of implied you could choose the video input from HDMI, USB C, or some Chinese characters that I'd be prepared to bet read 'Auto'. In theory I've got th...

I also like that you can adjust the brightness of the display. I may have to wait until I can change the OSD language before I can do that - the brightness is ok, but could do with being a tad brighter. Edit: just found the following instructions for the OSD: Menu down down down Menu Menu Down down down menu (english) but I can't seem to get it to...

Mine just arrive - a week earlier than estimated. First impressions: surprisingly well packed. Lots of bubble-wrap inside. The supplied HDMI cable seems to work ok, but I'm not at the high-res yet. Better one ordered 'just in case'. The stand it comes with is simple but useful as a carry stand - I could easily see me taking it on holiday. A better ...

Re: 9.7" iPad Retina Screen Perfect for MiSTer, $60 Fully Assembled 😄

Looks like the one I ordered may be arriving a lot earlier than I expected - it's cleared UK customs and is apparently 'out for delivery' (although I suspect that just means it's moving up from London to Edinburgh). Did any other UK buyer end up having to pay any import duty? I've seen no sign of that yet, but I won't be too surprised if it does. S...

One thing I have just accidentally discovered - on Mastodon you can follow a hashtag. Unsurprisingly, I found this out by accidentally following the ‘#retrocomputing’ hashtag. Nice!

Re: MiSTerFPGA community on Twitter alternatives, share your Username here!

For Mastodon (on any platform) I can highly recommend 'elk.zone' It's a web app and seems to work very well in both Chrome (Windows/Mac) and Safari (Mac). Don't see why it wouldn't work in Android either. For dedicated apps, on iOS ‘Ivory’ is probably the Gold Standard. It’s a subscription app though. ‘Mona’ is a perfectly cromulent alternative tha...

Facebook are THE worst of the worst companies on the planet for data mining. I would NEVER register with ANY of their services.

Re: MiSTerFPGA community on Twitter alternatives, share your Username here!

My main point was to emphasize the importance of having a presence for MisterFPGA and its community on a platform that has gained 50 million users within just 48 hours. I agree that it would be nice for MisterFPGA to have a stronger, more central (everyone in one place) social media presence. Not essential - these forums are awesome - but nice. I ...

Re: MiSTerFPGA community on Twitter alternatives, share your Username here!

I'd much prefer Mastodon or even Bluesky* usernames. Given the utter lack of data privacy and the rampant data scraping you have to allow for Threads, hard pass. Mastodon: @GreyAreaUK@mastodon.social Bluesky: @greyareauk.bsky.social yes, I know Bluesky also has issues, but they're trivial (so far) compared to the data-harvesting nightmare of Threads.

Re: Any Gotchas With This Kenowa 15" 4:3 Display?

That resolution is very non-standard and I can't imagine the TN panel is all that great. I'd be much more inclined to pick up a Dell 2007FPB (1600x1200 IPS) for around £50~ on Ebay (you might just have to keep an eye out), you can also pick up an AX510/AS501 soundbar to go with it for under £15. Plenty of good feedback on YouTube on this monitor f...

Any Gotchas With This Kenowa 15" 4:3 Display?

For the time being I've decided to stop mucking about with the CRT I have and invest, instead, in a better LCD. I'd prefer to stick to a 4:3 display (I just like them) but the one I'm using is old and a bit crappy - it's an Acer, the resolution is 'only' 1024x768 and the screen brightness is definitely not what it once was! Looking on Amazon I foun...

It might help to know a few more things, such as how you're connecting it (analogue board, HDMI converter etc). Make and model wouldn't hurt as well :)
