Re: USB dead is it my hub, DE-10 Nano, or ?

That little $8 hub that steveskr linked should be a hard diagnostic method. I was using that exact hub for awhile (replaced it with a powered USB switchbox), and it should work flawlessly. If it doesn't, and your power supply is 4A, you quite likely have a bad port. I'd pull all the other boards off and test it with a naked DE-10 to be certain. Ter...

Re: What would I gain from upgrading my hardware?

Depending on the CRT you're driving, you might get slightly higher quality output from the new Direct Video analog system. You buy an HDMI->VGA converter with a specific chipset, and configure the ini to use Direct Video. That changes the digital HDMI output to analog. It's best suited for VGA-type monitors, and will show more colors and will gener...

It's kind of slow even on AO486, and insists on drawing way too much attention to itself. "Look at me!" it says, "I'm a really cool menu system!" And it keeps beating you on the head about how wonderful it is with all these glitzy effects that take extra time. End users, however, are typically not interested in the menu system, ...

Re: Floppys and Virus

Huh, I guess WinUAE tricked me somehow. But any diff system that allows persistent writes will still infect the virtual floppy images, whether those images end up in two files on disk or not. Regardless, IPFs still do almost nothing about viruses that write protection doesn't already cover. It's a mostly fake justification to insist that someone's ...

Assuming you installed it correctly, that does indeed sound like a defective board. It should just work. Another thing to check: do dmesg | grep rtc Probably the last two lines should look something like this: [ 0.313620] rtc-m41t80 2-0068: registered as rtc0 [ 0.314778] rtc-m41t80 2-0068: setting system clock to 2023-02-12T20:04:11 UTC (1676232251...

Some games came with viruses, so IPF is no guarantee of anything. And writable IPFs will be just as vulnerable to external infection as writable ADFs.

I spent a good chunk of the day yesterday working on generating a kpartx for myself, and I did succeed, sort of. I ended up learning enough Docker to get an ARMv7 Debian running, got all the compilation tools running, and did eventually generate a kpartx along with the extra libraries. I wasn't able to figure out static compilation, but ended up co...

FAT volumes have shorter UUIDs than ext4 ones, and you can find both kinds quickly and easily. You can use 'lsblk' to list all your drives, like this: /root# lsblk NAME MAJ:MIN RM SIZE RO TYPE MOUNTPOINT loop0 7:0 0 2M 0 loop /var/lib/bluetooth loop8 7:128 0 375M 0 loop / mmcblk0 179:0 0 238.3G 0 disk ├─mmcblk0p1 179:1 0 238.3G 0 part /media/fat └─...

Re: Depricated.

Testing this is turning into a real PITA, because the Mister distro doesn't have kpartx, and my feeble attempts at setting up a cross-compiling environment to produce one have not been fruitful. The instructions for cross-compiling on the Mister Wiki are, um, let's say not at all helpful, and the Debian ones haven't been much better. Instead of giv...

Yeah, I just didn't have any floppy images convenient. I'll copy some over from WinUAE.

edit: I get the same error. As an extra test, I tried adding 512K of slow RAM, in case it was working like the actual A500 did, with the RTC on the trapdoor expansion. Made no difference.

Re: Real-time clock not working on an Amiga 500 setup?

I’m working on a Workbench 1.3 setup that is essentially equivalent to an Amiga 500 with an attached A590 hard drive. I was trying to duplicate your bug, but I can't figure out how to boot a hard drive from Kickstart 1.3 on Minimig. The only hard drive type offered is A600-style IDE, and my 1.3 ROMs won't boot from there. Are you booting from flop...

Because if it self-corrupts, it's always going to do that, so a backup doesn't do me any good. Sounds like I should just delete the main pack and the update script option if it isn't working for anyone. No one else has chimed in saying it was working so maybe I should start over? I don't want something out there that is corrupting immediately like...

IIRC, the Elevator Action board is super complex, with a weird custom CPU that nobody else really used. I wouldn't expect that one soon.

I might, however, be mixing that up with Paperboy, which is another really oddball board.

Re: Xilinx Compatibility

I'm no expert, but from what I can tell, the $600 board is only a little bigger than the DE-10. If you spend $900, you can get 256K "logic cells", which I presume are about equivalent to the DE-10's LEs. So the high end board might potentially host circuits twice as complex, but for four times the price. Even if the board is able to do ev...

Re: Floppys and Virus

BTW, I accidentally ended up testing the read/write protection on a floppy image; if it's stored on a filesystem that honors permissions, setting it read-only will give it a little lock icon on the filename in the GUI. This won't work on the default exFAT filesystem the Mister uses. If you use almost any other filesystem, though, whether on USB sto...

Has a clean build of the most recent version been uploaded anywhere? The only original I can find is like a year old, and considering how badly the update scripts corrupted it last time, I'd rather just start with a pristine set of image files.

Re: Advice for HDMI Users

Using a CEC stripper on the Mister's output is a very good idea. It's known to cause havoc downstream; your converter may be poorly made and vulnerable to that kind of disruption. It could be random coincidence, too, but the strippers are like $15, and may prevent later issues. They can apparently also cause some issues, too, as upthread it's menti...

It's probably physically possible to turn a DE-10 into a workalike for the GDEMU, but probably not while also running the Mister project. I doubt there are enough GPIO pins left.

Re: Floppys and Virus

One way to test would be using a recoverable RAM disk, and seeing if it recovers after a GUI reset. If one survives control-windows-windows, but doesn't survive the GUI reset, then reset should also be clearing viruses.

And, yes, a write protection option in the core would be an excellent idea.

If the interruption was a power failure, I'd suggest pulling the card and running a chkdsk on it with Windows. FAT filesystems are pretty fragile.

Double check your u-boot.txt. At least one version of the MAC address script would blow away the existing file writing the new MAC argument. You want to be sure that "v=loglevel=4 usbhid.jspoll=1 xpad.cpoll=1" is still there, if you want 1ms polling on your controller(s).

Re: Any Way to Limit 68020 Speed?

Counting the Atari as earlier than the Amiga is true in a literal sense, but you have to realize that Tramiel was involved in early Amiga development, lent the team a lot of money, and thought they would fail and he would end up owning the tech. Then Commodore came in, bailed out the debt, and took over the hardware. At that point, Tramiel put the ...

From reading another thread, the thought occurs that it might involve the CEC signaling on the HDMI port, which AFAIK isn't defeated by DVI mode. (this could be wrong, however.) The Mister and CEC do not get along well. I ordered one of these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BFL8TM8 and it's been working. It's just a passthrough adapter that doesn't c...

Re: MiSTer screen freezes when connecting analog audio to Dell soundbar

That sounds like an electrical problem, like something is wrong with the analog board. You might want to contact your seller for support. A way around the problem, assuming that the soundbar can take a Toslink input, would be to run a Mini-toslink to Toslink adapter, making sure it's fiber only, no copper. Digital sound on the Mister is much better...
