Re: What Do You Think Will Happen Once MiSTer Reaches It's Limits?

To everyone saying early 3d sucked compared to 2d: Daytona USA.

That's really all that needs to be said on this idiotic topic. It's a myth that early 3d was bad. Get over yourselves and submit to Daytona.

Re: Settings to Help Mimic ‘4-Way’ Joystick?

If your stick has a square gate you can just rotate the insert to diamond. Otherwise you can get a square insert for your restrictor gate for like a dollar. No need to buy a new stick.

Re: Rod Land Core

This is a bigger deal than just Rod Land. It was made for the Jaleco Mega System 1, so work on this board should aid in further cool games like Avenging Spirits, Legend of Makai, Lord of King, P47, Cybattler and Plus Alpha. Pretty exciting to potentially have some NMK and AICOM games implemented

Re: Games Consoles Not On MiSTer And Their Viability (A Discussion)

While not intended for home use it might be worth considering cartridge based arcade systems in this category, or as a sub category. As far as I'm aware they're standardized and there aren't meaningful hardware variations. Considering how the Neo Geo is classified as a console in the Mister file system, when it straddles the line between the two an...

Darren's output has been pretty incredible lately. Same with your facilitation of these projects atrac. It's appreciated. These are games worth preserving.

Re: Help Buying My First Arcade Stick

Obsidian is a rock solid stick. I enjoy having a hefty base and prefer sanwa levers. I wouldn't worry too much about parts since you don't really have preferences yet from having played on different sticks. Just consider how you might prefer to hold it and choose vewlix or noir accordingly. Also if you're interested in Tekken a square gate seems li...

Re: Nichibutsu M68000 Based HW (Terra Cresta/Force)

Fantastic news. Nichibutsu are honestly a pretty janky company but it makes me happy to see them getting love. Terra Cresta is probably their strongest game so that will leave a good impression on the inexperienced. There are a good amount of overlooked bizarre Japanese arcade developers that don't get the love and attention they deserve. Maybe we'...

blackwine's Sega System 2 implementations

While looking for those Neo Geo MRA files I noticed that blackwine had already implemented most System 2 games. He even has a fork of the main System 1 repository with all of his work integrated: https://github.com/blackwine/Arcade-SEGASYS1_MiSTer Since this seems to have been done about 7 months ago I'm wondering why this hasn't been integrated in...

Re: GBC Rumble Support

Darius had a special speaker underneath the player seat to make it vibrate along to the music. Similarly Taito's Teatro 50 cabinet had embedded speakers in the seat back to vibrate the player. The only game I know for sure that was designed to really take advantage of it was G-Darius where it would only vibrate during significant events but I'd exp...

Re: SEGA 16 Public Release

Super Scaler games aren't supported yet. Despite sharing a lot with ordinary System 16 hardware they also have an entire extra board with beefy graphics chipsets and a lot of variation between games. So they're pretty serious projects that would take a lot of additional work to get running.

Re: SEGA 16 Public Release

The core doesn't quite seem out of beta yet, it's just public now. There are probably encrypted romsets that don't work yet and some remaining bugs in a few games. The hardware seemed to prove a lot trickier than expected and since most of the games are running great Jotego decided to get a public build out to make further fixes easier. Would be ni...

apologies to anyone mentioned, particularly amstan for derailing his thread. drama is unbecoming and unhealthy.

This seems like a fun project and as this is a community filled obligate tinkerers it will be fun to see how people leverage this and the frenchman build.

Re: PGM / Taito F3 / Psikyo SH2 / Toaplan v1 v2 / Irem M72 M92

There are still some conversions coming out of China, but you can build these from scratch using brand new pcbs. The advantage being they are running at the correct voltage and not destroying old carts. I made the 3 Cave games myself and it wasn't too bad. If you have basic soldering skills and access to an eprom burner, you can build these for ar...

Re: PGM / Taito F3 / Psikyo SH2 / Toaplan v1 v2 / Irem M72 M92

PGM is actually very important to have a core for because shmuppers are en masse vandalizing KoV cartridges for conversions. I'm all for converting low quality games but KoV is important in ways that even classics like Ketsui and DOJ can't approach. It isn't simply a great bmup, it's the single most popular arcade game in the world and the spike in...

Re: Playstation Based Arcade Hardware

Great reply, thanks Aberu. It seems like some of the later boards were practically different systems entirely. High challenge and since most of the games these would cover have compromised but competent ports I wouldn't expect anything but the more similar systems to draw interest for a long time. Kind of a shame since 90s 3D arcade games are in ro...

Playstation Based Arcade Hardware

I've been wondering how much of a challenge it would be to modify this core to create cores for stuff like Capcom's ZN-1/2, Namco's System 11/12, Taito's FX-1A/B and Gnet? This seems like a project that would come after a mature console core so this is really just a bit of idle thought. However I have been curious about how much of a leap this woul...
