Re: S-Video and Composite Over Component Output! (Custom Cores)
I received the adapter from Antonio today. I'm having a lot of color artifacts with it. I've been communicating with MikeS1, to correct dynamic color artifacts in PAL mode. But right now it looks like the luma trap might not be working correctly. Also if you order it with a housing, the housing says PAL/NTSC vertically. But the switch works horizo...

Re: S-Video and Composite Over Component Output! (Custom Cores)
Yes. I've tested my units with Mike's cores. But I don't know if he implements luma trap for NTSC and PAL or only for one of them. We must wait his confirmation or when he publish his schematics Ah, apologies, I must have misunderstood - I thought you were saying his cores don't send the 0 or 1 for pal/ntsc selection on pin 14. But now I understan...

How are you testing your units then, if not with Mike's cores?

Do the MikeS cores already do this?antoniovillena wrote: ↑Wed May 04, 2022 9:03 pm Yes. But requires core support to send 0 or 1 on that line to activate NTSC or PAL.

Cool, so that's a dual-standard NTSC/PAL luma trap?antoniovillena wrote: ↑Wed May 04, 2022 6:15 pm I use the circuit in page 18 with original values: 9pF, 18pF, 47K and 68uH. NTSC/PAL line is transmited through VSYNC line (VGA pin 14).

Re: S-Video and Composite Over Component Output! (Custom Cores)
I have released a prototype with luma trap (same luma trap than I've used with AD723). If some developper/youtuber or MikeS1 wants to try I can send one for free. The final price will be 15 EUR without case or 20 EUR with case. I use the same case than VGA->Composite adapter. Is the luma trap built in to the ad723 or did you add a capacitor/induct...

Re: S-Video and Composite Over Component Output! (Custom Cores)
I've been playing with these cores and with a homemade luma trap, and it's been FANTASTIC! It feels so right to have 8 and 16 bit consoles have the composite artifacting. Especially Genesis, which is too jarring to me via RGB; I find the sharp dithering distracting. The composite blend setting helped, but it doesn't do what real composite does. I c...

Re: Any chance for composite blend like in Genesis?
Even if sonic gets some benefit from blending in very particular screens, it's not worths to enable it if it cannot detect the places where it has to be applied. This is subjective. I play all Genesis games with full blend. It's how they games looked via composite, and that was the experience millions of people had, which is fact. I'm one of those...

Re: Adjustable Composite Converter?
I tried MikeS's S-video/composite-modded NES, SNES, and GENESIS cores, all work really well to a JVC tv.
Chain is analog IO > VGA to Composite cable > RCA to S-Video Cable > S-Video to Composite adapter
Remember to enable the s-video in core options.

Re: S-video (NTSC) adapter
I believe that the chances of it hurting the receiving device are very minimal. I currently use it with various tvs and pvms without any problem, I leave the cap on all the time.

I'd be first in line to buy one!
Is there a way to test composite with your test cores currently? I tried the Genesis core, but seems to only be for sending s-video via two cables, rather than composite via one?

Re: Adjustable Composite Converter?
Despite not being part of the official manifesto, s-video and composite implementation work is, in my opinion, one of the last remaining critical parts of the MiSTer 'framework'. I'm very grateful that someone who understands it on a low level is working on a native solution, so thank you Mike! For anyone trying your test cores, is there anything w...

Re: S-video (NTSC) adapter
Take a look at your IO board. If the pins for the jumper are there, just put a jumper on them.
If they're not there, because of an older board, like the guy in the video, then you'd have to solder.

Re: Adjustable Composite Converter?
I fully understand. I acknowledge that Mike Simone is developing a solution that doesn't use an external adapter. I follow his work on Twitter, as well as both of his composite/s-video GitHub projects. If that work is ever completed, I will be ecstatic! Until then, can I ask about what all our options are?

See the first half of my original post. It's not a matter of necessity, but preference, as well as historical analysis. Here's an example of something only composite video can do: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Composite ... dering.jpg

So what I'm hearing is that the answer to my question is no, there's no hardware that lets me adjust the color carrier clock manually.

Does each core developer have to apply this 'template' to their core? Or is it something I'd have to 'install' to my MiSTer myself?

Re: Adjustable Composite Converter?
With my adapter is possible to send directly the color carrier clock, through vsync pin. But there is no support for that in the cores. Yup, exactly, that's what I meant when I said "I get the feeling it will be a long time, if ever, before we see cores that send the correct frequency to adapters like Antonio's that support the signal." ...

Adjustable Composite Converter?
TL;DR: Is there a composite converter that can adjust for dot crawl / rainbow banding? I've had a MiSTer for a few months now, and it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. The only .. annoyance .. I have is the passion (read: anger) that I see come out online in forums and on twitter around analog output, single/dual SDRAM slots, and the fact th...
